THE HIDDEN ABUNDANCE
Rethinking of waste management in Thailand
CONCEPT
UNCOVERING THE HIDDEN LAYER
Step 1: Developing a standardized sanitary landfill Step 1: Developing a standardized sanitary landfil 2004 2010: The Energy and Environmental Operations Cener provided consulting service for Group 79 Co., Ltd. in terms of design nd construction control of Landfill Gas to Electricity Project under the Royal Initiative of His Majesty the King. The project has been successful, achieving the ISO 14001: 2004 crtification. The method used in the project can also be applied to landfills in major cities all over Thailand
Step 2: Developing a model system for landfill gas electric generation
1995 2012: The Center developed a model system for lanfill gas electricity generation from 1995 to 2012. The system drills and collects gas to a certai amount and quality suitable for supplying energy to machines within a 61-rai land owned by Group 79 2006 2012: The Center worked in collaboration with Min Sen Machinery Co., Ltd. to improve gas quality, making it suitable for running machines. The project then started to generate and distribute 23 kilowatt/hour electricity through Thailans Provincial Electricity Authorits network 2013 present: The Center has since been generating electricity, having generated 576,248 units of electricity. The Center will continue operating on this until the gas run out
Step 3: Development of waste segregation g process and transformation for use
2011 2015: The Center worked in collaboration with Muag Sa Ard Co., Ltd. and Group 79 Co., Ltd. to develop landfill mining rocess from waste that has run out of gas, segregating plastics out and transform them into oil or construction materials. From 2013 2015, The Center collaborated with Mega Energy Co, Ltd., Victory Energy Plus Co., Ltd., EPAC Co., Ltd., and PP Mechanic Ltd. in testing using plastics acquired from segregation and transform them into oil, both batch type and continuous type oil, at production capacity of 1600 kg./day and 5,000 kg./day.
THE HIDDEN ABUNDANCE
Rethinking of waste management in Thailand
The learning center is built with consideration of slopes’ characteristics, for example, using a high slope as a landmark and a scenic point of the site to give a sense of place of garbage mountain. The highlight of this project is the Sunken Reminder Museum, which is a pathway sunken into waste to dierent waste layers. Visitors will experience odor and leachate as a result of waste mismanagement and be reminded of the consequence of ignorance over the problems.
The closed landfill is connected to the operated landfill through a skywalk. This leads to the research area which shows a full-scale use of waste with a green waste mountain as a landmark. This mountain has a pathway leading visitors to its peak to show sustainable landfilling process. Lastly, the visitors will be led back to the learning center through experimental field. In this place, visitors can learn about new technologies, which is a knowledge diusion to communities and providing role model for any waste management initiation in the future.

OPEN SPACE DESIGN TOWARDS INTERACTIVE COMMUNITY The Klong Bang Luang improvement project intends to provide public spaces for local communities through a landscape and residential design. Based on our information we have received from an interview with the locals, the problems lead us to our main goal and solution by using the concept “The closer, the happier” to make the interactive community.
