THE CIRCLE AT SAGINAW FOREST A Meeting Conference Teaching Facility Design For SNRE Fall 2014
In this project, I want to make a design that combine with ecology, functions, aesthetics, as well as considering about the cost. Imagine that you are a SNRE student just get off from car, and begin to walk along a conifer road. You cannot see any buildings because conifers block them. Suddenly, you see the openning big lawn and board walk. You still keep walking along the main road, and the surrounding are dense conifer again. Then turn right, the meeting facility come up, and you find a secret bridge, that is a small entrance of saginaw forest that students can step into and have a field trip. Then you step into the meeting facility, and find the meeting room is aross a beautiful creek, full of flowers and aquatic plants. you step out from the north door, walking through a flowering path and you will arrive at boat storage. Then you go back to the big lawn, there is a camping fire now, you sit on the logs around the fire ring, or play at the lawn. after the activity , the logs can be moved to storage and lawn become clean. Then, you go into the small entrance behind the fire ring, and you get the outdoor classroom. The beautiful lake is in front of your eye, you feel relax, sit down and talk with your classmates teachers, and enjoy slight wind from lake. When the class end, you go back along the stepping board and get on cars.
A TREE SPIRIT LIVE IN FOREST A Office Park Design In Saginaw Forest Winter 2015
This design is in the same location as in Fall 2014, but the aim, content and methods are different. I sprout the concept idea from the slightly sway of trees in Saginaw forest, a forest spirit living in forest. I want to create a design like a spirit, a active organisms that is alive as the forest. Meanwhile, this design will also meet these four goals 1) Human wellbeing created by wonderful view that attract workers and encourage people to go outside, comfort microclimate and convenient accessibility 2) Aesthetic design that make coherent site organization with nature elements , while also are distinctive from the surrounding areas. 3) Ecological protect consideration that avoid disturbing the forest and lake as much as possible 4) Functional design that create dynamic, interactive outdoor gathering spaces for different group size.
I extract trunk and leaves elements from the photo of Saginaw forest and transform them into pergola column and vines on the top of building. For the pavilion, I use vines as construction material to make it fuse with the surrounding forest and create natural affiliations.
water view better forest view forest view
This sun/shade analysis was performed to test the whether the plant pattern and land use of Saginaw forest site design have their desirability function and assist to determine the type of vegetation that would thrive arround the 20'-tall building and the form and location of outdoor space.
bad view cannot build parking too small to build
According to the site inventory made by ArcGIS and my design goals, I analyze the usability of the six potential area for design. I find the parcel B an parcel A meet the design goal the best but in the end I choose the parcel A, because: 1. People can see both the lake and wetland in this parcel. The lake has the best view in the forest. 2.The land can be more efficiently used than Parcel B. 3. It relatively farther than Parcel B to the main road in forest, which means people will have more quiet and peaceful environment.

In vine pavilion, you can have groupwork with your friends while appreicate beautiful lake scenery.
A road along with forest: view begins at the entrance of parcel A. Try different building entrance, choose what you like to feel: fancy building garden or peaceful forest trail? You need to walk through a glass walk way to get building, and you will find the rain garden in front of building is a totally different world from drop-off area!
In the big ourdoor space, you can sit on the slope and enjoy afternoon sunshine, or talk with your classmates and teachers on wood chairs.
These are grading and drainage plan and calculation for my design. These plan follow these rules as below: 1. Make grading combine current contour lines to minimize changing to current topography and cut and fill. 2.Accumulate rainwater from pavement and roof as much as possible to prevent containmination and soil erosion. 3.Keep the advantages of schematic design and improve the quality of design through grading. FLOATING CLOUDS, FLOWING WATER
ZouCheng gymnasium landscape design, Phase I Plan II 2012
This is the first time I did a real project as a chief designer and lead a team to do schematic design and presentation to local government. This project in located in Zoucheng, a city with long history and culture. There is a local tale saying that this city is from a nest of phenix, a kind of bird flting with harmony cloud. The concept of the gymnasium landscape design comes from the pattern, harmony cloud, and the idea of gymnasium 'Plain sailing, Harmony city'. Considering the complexity of the site condition, I explored by modeling with clay and plastic foamboard to study my idea and creat art terrain. The model terrain focus on those point below: vertical design, 2 main entrances, central landscape avenue and the waterfront space.
1. Theme sculpture 2. Public square 3. Parking 4. Waterworks 5. Tennis court 6. Football field 7. Basketball court 8. Badminton court 9. Children’s park 10. Waterfront walkway 11. Waterfront theater 12. Quay 13. Theme avenue

STORMWATER ASSESSMENT DESIGN&MANAGEMENT At West Eisenhower Area, Ann Arbor, MI Fall 2014 A team work
The West Eisenhower Site Assessment examines the current condition of the southwestern portion of Malletts Creek watershed. Based on observations, assessments, and proposed changes, this assessment presents a myriad of potential solutions to improve the water quality and reduce flooding in this region of the creek and downstream.
The area is currently served by the municipal sewer system and does not need to rely on septic disposal. There are not currently any areas of significant open space, nor are there any parks within the site. Furthermore, the creek within the site is partially open and partially channeled underground. Accordingly, the water quality of Malletts Creek in this area is poor.
Our phases are in order of priority. Prioritization was assigned according to urgency, legal requirements and ease of implementation.
PHASE I
Recommendations in Phase One are either 1) simple solutions, like dumpster enclosures 2) required by law, like the bike parking 3) urgent, like installing a riser pipe in the eastern reach to reduce the steep slopes and encourage infiltration.
Dumpster Enclosures
Bike Parking
Install Riser Pipe in Creek
PHASE II
Native Planting
Cistern
Urban Forest
All recommendations in Phase Two would be completed during redevelopment of the Cranbrook Shopping Village parking lot.
Permeable Asphalt Parking Lot
Runnels
Lowered Parking Islands
Construct Detention Basin
PHASE III
Recommendations in Phase Three would be highly beneficial in managing stormwater runoff but are also expensive and would only be pursued if the necessary funding was secured.
Encourage Sustainable Green Roof Development
Rain Garden Median
Enlarge Detention Basin Surrounded by Boardwalks
STUDY ON EIGHT SIGHTS OF YANJING (OLD BEIJING) Undergraduate Thesis & Research In Chinese Landscape History And Theory Winter 2013
'The eight sights of Yanjing (Old Beijing)' is a series of classic sceneries in old Beijing. They are chosen out from numerous famous landscape in Beijing and named by Chinese ancient literati from generation to generation. These sights often combine with sunlight, weather, astronomical phenomena and historical allusions, not just simply landscape design. These sights are for common Beijingers' in ancient, which are different from Chinese royal gardens and private gardens that are only for feudal ruling class.

The four sights below are 'FOGGY TREE IN CITY GATE', 'MOON OF LUGOU BRIDGE', 'MOUNTAINS OF GREAT WALL GATE', 'THE SETTING SUN OF GOLDEN TERRACE'. Now, because of Rapid development of Beijing city, the eight sights of Yanjing, with profound connotation and significance, are on the verge of disappearing.
