2020 was a year of change and uncertainty. However, through it all, the passion for supporting our students has never been stronger. As an alum and a donor, I am proud of the work our Foundation has undertaken over the past year. As the pandemic hit in March and carried on throughout the year, our Foundation was able to pivot quickly and respond to students’ new and unanticipated needs. Several fundraising appeals were undertaken to help support the changing landscape for our students. Some of the initiatives funded by donors provided direct financial support to students included the Emergency Bursary funding, and the Hamper program; as well as enhanced program support to keep our Community Cupboard well stocked; and a new Laptop Borrowing Program to help build a bridge to accessibility for online learning. Thanks to our valued donor community, we surpassed the million-dollar mark for a second straight year, raising $1,162,609 for Langara students in 2020. This is a remarkable achievement considering our economic climate. Once again, we were proud to continue to increase the number of scholarships, bursaries, and other support available for our students. In 2020, the Foundation supported more than 1014 students, distributing over $964K in financial aid. In May 2020, we closed our Beyond 49 campaign which celebrated Langara’s 49 years on 49th Avenue, reconnecting with our community, and a focus on raising funds for students’ academic journeys. The success of this campaign cannot be underpinned, raising over $2.9M for the College’s first-ever comprehensive campaign. We were so fortunate to be surrounded by people who recognize the power of education and giving and want to extend our thanks to the campaign Ambassadors for their volunteer leadership and support. While this year has not been easy for anyone, our donors have continued to support our students in need, and I am truly inspired by their generosity. It has been a privilege to see the impact that our giving community has created to continue to create possibilities for our students on their educational journey, especially through these difficult times. For the first time in its history, the College moved primarily to an online teaching and learning environment, offering over 90 percent of its classes remotely. Not only did students find themselves in a wholly different learning environment, but many also found themselves in precarious economic circumstances. Our giving community stepped up in extraordinary ways, helping to ease their mounting financial burdens and creating possibilities for our students to continue their educational journey during these difficult times. The generosity of our donors and partners, enabled the Foundation to assist with an unprecedent number of students.

ENVIRONMENT STUDIES – GENER ATING NEW FIELD WORK OPPORTUNITIES Traditionally the Environmental Studies program takes up to 22 students and instructors to Pacific Rim National Park to conduct an annual week-long field study. With the pandemic the program pivoted, and it resulted in the creation of a new water testing project and a collaboration with the City of Vancouver and Still Moons Arts Society (Streamkeepers). A redesign of ENVS 2470 Course has included establishing a new monitoring program at Still Creek*, which aims to measure water quality parameters and discharge rates at four sites over a sixmonth period. The Foundation has provided funding to purchase a new water quality meter with a 10-meter cord, so students can take measurements of the water from one of the many bridges that cross the stream, creating safe and

It is a wrap – Beyond 49. On June 9, we celebrated the closing of our first comprehensive campaign with a special message from the President and CEO, Dr. Lane Trotter. Dr. Trotter spoke about the impact made by the many contributions we received over the last 18 months, and the unveiling of the final fundraising amount. Watch the close video here. The Beyond 49 campaign raised an incredible $2.95 million, surpassing our $2.5 million goal. Through your support, we have created 83 new scholarships and bursaries and provided new innovative technology and learning experiences for students. We have also enhanced support for students around mental wellness, food security, and leadership training, allowing them to focus on their self-care and soft-skills training while pursuing their academic goals.

LOOKING BACK AT BEYOND 49 Launch Day The campaign launched in October 2018, bringing students, alumni, staff and faculty together to announce the campaign goals. Over 100 people joined in to recreate ‘The Great Trek’ as they walked from Oakridge Mall to campus. The Trek ended in the Langara Gymnasium for a campus-wide pep rally that brought the College community together for an official launch of the campaign. Community Day Community Day presented by RBC Royal Bank was the largest celebration in Langara’s 49-year history. Part birthday celebration, part alumni homecoming, the event was a public, family-friendly festival that brought together over 5,000 former students, graduates, employees, and friends. The block-party-style event featured music, interactive games, food trucks, workshops, lectures, and fun entertainment. 49 Langarans In October 2019, we announced the 49 Langarans: change makers, founders, and visionaries who have made an impact at the College and in the community over the past 49 years. From business leaders to theatre directors, community advocates to researchers, and dedicated employees, the 49 were honoured at an on-campus award ceremony.

Scholarships and bursaries are a vital support for our students. As one of the most accessible post-secondary institutions in British Columbia, Langara makes education possible for everyone and scholarships and bursaries make a real difference in our students' lives. The continued generosity of our donors helps Langara students on their educational journey. The financial support available to students continued to grow in 2020. The focus on support was on bursaries to help students through the pandemic. While fewer scholarships were awarded, due to programs being put on hold for the part of the year, overall more students were assisted with financial support.

HONOURING A STUDENT LEGACY – DEL AR AM DADASHNEJAD Last August, the College and Foundation announced the creation of a new scholarship to honour the memory of Delaram Dadashnejad, a Langara student who passed away tragically in January 2020 on Ukraine Flight 752 from Tehran. The Delaram Dadashnejad Memorial scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Nutrition and Food Service Management program, who has a passion for the food and nutrition field, demonstrates a dedication to volunteering and community service. It will be awarded to a student for the first time in the spring of 2021.

HONOURING STUDENT SCHOL ARSHIP RECIPIENTS The Celebration of Excellence event is held twice a year to celebrate our students’ achievements in academia, community, and leadership and to acknowledge the generosity of our donors. This year’s events had to change its delivery because of the current circumstances. Nevertheless, honouring student scholarship and recipients continued. This year’s celebration was held on December 10, to celebrate recipients from the summer and fall semesters. The virtual celebration was joined by students, parents, and donors with a virtual space and gave them the opportunity to celebrate these accomplishments. Watch our celebratory video here.

CELEBR ATING A COACHING LEGACY – MARC RIZZARDO 2020 was a special year for our Langara Falcons Athletics program. Longtime coach and mentor, Marc Rizzardo celebrated 30 years at Langara. To commemorate his legacy, former players and colleagues came together to honour his anniversary with an appeal to raise funds to build on his named award, the Marc Rizzardo Athletic Scholarship. This award is designated to recognize student-athletes for their athletic achievements. Thanks to the many donors who contributed to the award, we were able to raise $13,502. Marc’s dedication to his craft leaves a lasting impression on the many student-athletes he has coached.
