It is spoken by 95 million native speakers mainly in Central Europe. It's also spoken by an additional 10 to 15 million second language speakers especially in Eastern Europe. It is the majority language and an official language of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the South Tyrol region of Northern Italy. It's also an official language in Luxembourg and Belgium but it's not a majority language there. In the European Union, German is the language that is most generally spoken. It is also one of the most widely taught languages in the world with between 75 and 100 million people having studied it as a foreign language. One tenth of the world's books is published in German. German is also the second most widely used scientific language. I know some doctors and all of them have some reading knowledge of German because so much scientific research is documented in German. As German became the language of education, it became widespread as the formal spoken language. There are more than 300 different kinds of bread museums. Germans love bread more than anything. They eat bread every day in every way. It's versatile and a healthy staple too. Before it becomes such a fine flour, it goes through 14 milling stages. The sourdough makes the flour bakeable and it gives the bread oodles of flavor and helps it keep for a long time. One can detect a coffee-like aroma with a very fine touch of smokiness. They don't need to import bread. German language has immense career benefits as you can get lucrative job opportunities after learning the language.
