believe only the curious have something to find, thus I invite you to spark your curiosity and discover ideas beyond your imagination with the launch of our new magazine Curious. Introducing you to the first issue of Curious, I intend to enlighten you with some of the intriguing people that have recently had the pleasure of working with in the fashion industry. Firstly I must admit, I am an addict, addicted to all things beautiful, addicted to all I adore, my love of fashion consumes me, my hunger for style and design envelops me, and my obsession for photography defines me. There is a story in this first issue that I am extremely excited about; my biography on Jac Dohromann, an amazing close friend and collaborator who recently became a professional stylist for David Jones. You will learn about the talented Jac through some inspired images and interviews to discover how her passion for fashion has launched her career in Australia as a glamorous stylist. I am particularly delighted about our second story, combining intriguing photographs with a great read as we profile a new up and
coming model and designer Sarah Nicole in our High Fashion Monochrome shoot, presenting a glimpse of Jac styling in action. Lastly, I am thrilled to show off the beautiful Steph Mac in our Beach Affair shoot from Black Rock Beach. The interesting photographs with the talented Jac Dohromann, Sarah Nicole and Stephanie Mac are inspired features that will give you a taste of what’s to come in future issues of Curious. Allow the allure of our first issue of Curious to stretch your imagination, boldly enlighten you with individuality and showcase some unique and beautiful talent. After all, a life without curiosity is quite simply a boring life, so stay with us- there is more to come in next month’s issue of Curious.

ON CURIOSITY “Fashion, beauty, models, photographers, stylists, Big City, make-up- If you say any of these words to me, I guarantee you will have my full attention. I guess it’s pretty much been this way since I can remember. I’ve always had a curiosity for all of things glamorous.”
O N FA M I L Y I grew up as the youngest of 5 siblings (3 sisters and a brother), yet nearly every single person would mistake me for someone older (I used to get really embarrassed by this) because there was always an ongoing joke, “you’re 8, going on 25”. There was also the time, when I cut my hair in homage to Posh Spice in the ‘Stop’ video and was mistaken for a young 8 year old boy, which has haunted me to this day! But at the age of 12 onwards there was still always this curiosity for all things beautiful. I remember secretly sneaking into my sisters’ bedrooms, browsing through their glossy fashion magazines at all of the beautiful imagery and reading up on what was stylish and trending. The fashion magazines always caught my attention, particularly Vogue and Marie Claire (although I never ceased to peruse through the “naughty sealed” sections in Cosmo and Cleo). I remember practicing applying my sisters’ make-up and trying on their clothes, always finding different ways to make an outfit unique so I felt like a superstar. Imagining I was walking down the red carpet, or being ‘papped’ I would always think… “If this was real, how would I style my outfit to end up on the ‘Best Dressed’ list in the magazines, as well as giving the best representation of who I really am as a person?”
ON STYLE I still get dressed in the morning using the same mindset: how to best represent myself through my fashion style/ appearance. (Luckily for my sisters) I now have my own collection of pieces to rummage through to create an outfit that gives it the ‘Jac Dohrmann Superstar’ stamp that I have created in my head. Applying this mindset while dressing each day gives me the confidence to walk out the door feeling sure and true to myself- I’m representing to the world ‘who I am’ through my image. Once I know I’ve nailed an outfit, it gives me the best feeling of satisfaction, confidence and joy. Not just because I think it looks good, but I always find a way to wear an outfit that feels like “me” and when I do, it’s great. Who doesn’t want to feel and look like the best version of themselves?
ON LIFESTYLE I am 25 now, and for the first time I’m living my dream and doing something that I have always been passionate aboutworking in the fashion industry. Why did I wait 25 years? The answer is simple; fear. Fear that I wouldn’t be good enough; fear that I would fail miserably; fear that I wouldn’t be able
to make the right connections to help me in the mistakenly and commonly stereotyped ‘cut throat industry’. It’s taken me 25 years to feel confident and comfortable within myself to really give it my all and launch my career in the fashion industry, and I feel hopeful now that I have pushed past that fear that has always held me back. In this society, we tend to look at people- intentionally or not- and often judge them by their aesthetics before getting to know them. If that’s the case, what is your body language, hair, outfit saying about you right now? Is the answer, the answer that you want it to be? Even I still look at people, whether it be a stranger on the train, or my best friend, and I pause to think “what is it about you, that makes you, you?”
O N FA S H I O N Fashion to me, is not just about the extraordinary detailing that goes into haute couture or high end designer collections. Nor is it about what the latest trends are. Instead, I see fashion as a way of expressing yourself, so when you walk out the door every single day, you are feeling the most confident, best version of you.
O N I N S P I R AT I O N The designers, the models, the hair and makeup team, the world’s best photographers, not to mention the opportunity to travel around the world… These are the extraordinary talents that drive my desire to work in this industry. The blessing of creativity allows me to play with colours, textures, mood boards and prints. I have the most amazing chances to collaborate and work with talented and creative teams. Thanks to the social media, such as Instagram, anyone can dress to impress even if they live worlds away from the glitz and glam.
ON CAREER I am excited to see where my career takes me. I plan to take on new and exciting opportunities as they come my way. It is not easy to create your own brand. A lot of thought, planning and money needs to be put behind it. If you are truly passionate about and want to succeed in, and you plant the seeds, eventually they will grow. Sometimes it may feel daunting putting hours of unpaid work and bundles of money into your business, but it is crucial in establishing yourself as a brand. At this point, I am being as proactive as possible to build my network, take on projects, work with new clients and begin to build my website and continue building my brand. The best part about it? I am loving every single moment of it and I can’t wait to see what the future has to bring.

WORDS WITH
SARAH PATTERSON
A
s human beings we are always eager to know or learn something different, unique and unusual. Our curiosity often leads us down new and exciting paths, opening up fresh possibilities and opportunities. As editor of Curious, of course I have an intense desire to satisfy my curiosity for fresh, unique and creative talent. I’m extremely delighted to enlighten you with one intriguing girl that I have had the absolute pleasure of working with in the fashion industry in the in the past, but most importantly in the present, when she joined the team here at curious to feature as our cover girl for the launch of our first issue. I caught up with the talented up-and-coming model and designer between wardrobe changes while shooting her in this month’s feature: High Fashion Monochrome Spread. Where did you grow up? I actually grew up in the forest deep in the mountains just outside of Melbourne, then later moved to the city of Melbourne. What first inspired your love for fashion? The spreads in fashion magazines… Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire. I’d rip the pictures out to create mood boards and then play around with my own personal style to design unique and interesting fashion items. I am also constantly inspired by designers, in particular men who know how to dress a woman (Christian Dior & Marc Jacobs) and fashion icons (it’s always been a tie between Kate Moss & Nicole Richie) What are your thoughts on style? Rachel Zoe states my perspective perfectly: “Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak.” If you could live anywhere? New York! How do you feel behind the camera? Alive. My surroundings disappear and I feel like I’m slowly dancing to each flash of the camera. Do you have any wardrobe staples? I think it’s always essential to have a really comfortable pair of jeans,
and of course a pair of heels that go with any outfit- I love Tony Bianco’s collections. I also wear a lot of black, it’s effortless and timeless. Skin care routine? Wash and moisturise twice daily with soap-free products. At the moment I am using Lancôme. Favourite makeup products? I don’t wear a lot of makeup, on an average day I brush on some Nude by Nature mineral powder, a splash of blush and a dash of eyeshadow. If I’m going out I tend to lean towards M.A.C products. You started designing clothes at 16, what’s next? I plan to fully launch my label mid-2016, it’s been a long time coming and endless nights of work, so I won’t give away too much. When you’re not modelling or designing, what do you do? I’m currently studying psychology at a private University in the City. I love to write (usually with my two little puppies sitting next to me). How do you stay in shape? I am naturally quite thin, it seems to run in my family. Although fitness is a major aspect of my lifestyle. I’m flexible with my regime, generally I like to stretch when I wake up followed by a short yoga session. I’m obsessed with my NutriBullet, I always blend up fresh juices with organic fruit and veg. I will admit to being a caffeine addict, I need my latte (or three) every morning before I go about my day and I drink a lot of water to stay hydrated throughout the day. My absolute favourite way to stay fit is to walk my two adorable puppies and run around the gardens with them. Where do you want to be in five years? I want my label to be well-established, I hope to have a store or two opened up and be designing on-of-a-kind pieces for clients. I also have plans to write, to travel and to finish my psychology degree. I’d love to get more involved in acting, and of course emerge further in the modelling industry. Thanks to curious I should get some fantastic exposure!
