Along with globalization occurring in various aspects of life, the lifestyle of the Indonesian people has also developed. Nowadays, shopping centers have become an urban symbol. They have developed into a recreational facility, not only a place to fulfill our daily needs. PT TWBI as the project initiator wants a building that can establish connections with the local area, with passive designs that are in line with eco-cultural technology design criteria. The building is also expected to be able to bring the value of the company’s vision and mission that are active in efforts to preserve the environment and promote Balinese culture especially for tourists.

Site Plan Bali Gateway has 4 main masses which aim to create a ‘not bulky’ shopping complex that can blend with the surrounding environment. The site between 4 masses is designed to be able to become an attraction and public space that provides a recreational nuance for visitors. All building masses are placed in the middle of the site to make the building clearly visible from the entrance of the area and able to attract visitors. The alfresco dining which placed facing up the main road is also able to become an attraction itself because of the activities that can be seen directly from outside. Aside from visibility aspect, the masses placement in such way also aims to form a pattern of activity that is centralized, especially towards the plaza and the amphitheater area which located in the middle of the site.

Zoning The zoning is made to adjust to surrounding environments, especially based on the need for a good view outside. Restaurants and coffee shops must have direct visual access to the outside so that visitors can enjoy the waterfront view, the Forest Park, or the cultural performances at amphitheater. Other areas that do not require visual access to the outside such as retails, cinema, department store, and supermarket are located in the back side and mostly have massive walls.

Roof The roof is mostly made of synthetic thatch - to emphasize the traditional impression, combined with glass roof at the front side

Roof Structure

Thatch roof uses a structural steel system with a plane truss and also space truss for the cinema area that requires a wider span; Parametric glass roof is supported by tree structure system with steel pipe material

Material Selection and Energy Efficiency Natural materials such as ‘nipah’ and reeds need extra care and need to be replaced regularly. Therefore, the roof cover material is a synthetic roof that looks like a reeds but much more durable. In addition, the high distance of floor-to-floor and the open-air 3rd floor allow natural lighting during the day and also help to reduce the use of Air Conditioner in the circulation area.

The Ambiance An interesting fusion of inside and outside space is the main attraction for the visitors. The lighting design at night; alfresco dining; and open space which blend with nature beautifullly make it different from shopping centers in general which are usually stiff and monotonous. In addition, this shopping center also has an amphitheater as a place for cultural performances. This amphitheater is located in the middle of the site so that it can be seen easily by all visitors.

Sustainability has become an increasingly important consideration over the past few decades. Research shows that flexible spaces can be more economically viable and land efficient. That’s why mixed use schemes are promoted as essential to the creation of attractive, livable, and sustainable urban environments. This development scheme is also gaining popularity in Bandung, one of the most well-developed city in Indonesia. It aims to increase residential dwelling numbers, reduce commute time, and increase walkability to encourage the development of social capital.

Typology : Residential Supervisor : Dr. Ing. Ir. Boedi Darma Sidi, MSA Location : Sadang Serang Residential, Bandung, Indonesia

The urbanization process is a factor that contributes to the development and settlement problems at the urban area and its periphery that continues to urbanize. The high demand for residential land that is not balanced with good design causes inefficiencies in land use. This inefficiency is related to the low intensity of land use, such as a low density single house that was built in the suburbs which are now developed as a city center. One of the areas in Bandung that experiences this phenomenon is Sadang Serang. Previously, Sadang Serang was a suburbs, now it is a city center. The efficiency of this residential area can be improved by paying attention to the density, public facilities, infrastructure, and open space area.

CONTEXT URBAN SUSTAINABLE HOUSING PUBLIC FACILITIES

MAIN CONCEPT

"Community Based Neighbourhood " Interaction Through Design Nowadays, housing design tends to encourage ‘individualist’ attitude. One family do not communicate with other families, not even know each other. Therefore, this residential design is designed to accommodate positive social interactions and prevent the development of an individualistic lifestyle. For example, there are some communal areas or active open spaces that can be used as a meeting places among residents.

Livable and Sustainable Environment Maximizing saleable area usually has an impact on the lack of green open space in residential areas. This point of view needs to be changed, especially for high density settlements at the city center. The green space is an urban air filter, which can refine the air that has been contaminated with pollution so that it can play a role in increasing public health.

Shared Community Spaces Inadequate public facilities and community spaces in urban areas can cause a low quality of life for the community. Creating some community spaces that binds each areas can give the opportunity for the residents to gather and pursue shared interests which can brings many benefits to personal, and the community itself.

Internship Projects CPG Corporation, SIngapore | May-August 2018

06

This section summarize my experiences in internship with CPG Corporation as architectural design assistant in industrial design studio division. Throughout my internship, I was involved to assist the design process of these 3 projects, which are Cleantech building and industrial warehouse at Jakarta, Indonesia and San Pedro, Philippines.

CLEANTECH 4 Location : Cleantech Loop, Singapore Site Area : 5800 sqm Typology: Education

Supervisor: Looi Chee Kin, Lin Zhenyi Software Used: Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft PowerPoint

CleanTech 4 is one of CleanTech Park projects which is the first eco-business park in Singapore. CleanTech Park is located on an area of 50 hectares beside Nanyang Technological University and serves as a place for research & development (R&D) and test-bedding in the development of new technologies. As I joined the team, this project still in design development phase. I was involved in the process of design several alternative faรงade concepts, revise the building plan, design drop-off area and plaza, help to prepare presentation material to clients and CEOs of the company, and make some illustrations or rendering of building exteriors.

BUILDING MAINTAINABILITY SYSTEM Roof Plan

Maintainability System Detailed Section

Backlit Lamp and Triple Bank Louvre Detailed Section

The davit arm system is used to clean the spandrel on the façade. Meanwhile, the boom lift system is used for maintenance of the rear façade, especially for building utility parts. In addition, the façade also requires a “cat walk” area behind the spandrel, for the backlit lamp installation and replace it if damage occurs.

REVISE BUILDING PLAN

BUILDING EFFICIENCY

This revision aims to improve the efficiency of building or saleable area. The obstacle experienced is the utility space requirements for mechanical & electrical rooms require more space compared to other buildings in general. I was responsible for revising the floor plan design, especially the core area and the utility rooms at the ground floor.
