THE FLOATING SADE
Metamorfosa 2017 : “Floating House Transformation” COMPETITION LOCATION : Gili Asahan Island, West Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat In COLLABORATION with Anthony derry & Kristina Andre
“Each new situation requires a new architecture.” The Floating Sade is a floating house that represents local architecture in Lombok, Indonesia. Floating house is one of the response that refers to the problem of global warming, which is affects the increase of sea level, therby reducing the land area in Indonesia. The Floating Sade’s design allows it to be able to follow the water or sea level. Therefore, this can be seen as a solution to overcome the problem we face today.

CONSTRUCTABILITY
PHILOSOPHY PHILOSOPHY The general mass of The Floating Sade is based on the Sade Traditional Roof which is located in Lombok. This roof is the identity or icon of Sasak tribe, the majority of the population. Afterwards, the roof shape is transformed to make more modern impression, but still maintaining the original shape. From the side view of the house, the overall shape of The Floating Sade is a metaphor of the pile of shells and also the ship’s form. The pile of shells represents Lombok which is well known for its pearl shell cultivation. Meanwhile, the ship’s form represents the maritime or sea area.
