THE MINIMAL STRAPPY SANDAL Consider this sandal the shoe equivalent of the silky slip dress for its functionality and versatility. We’ve seen a major resurgence of the late ‘90s and early 2000’s inspired dressing, and this footwear trend has quickly become a favorite..

WHO’S THE BOSS? Lalonde’s been sheltering in place with her partner in their New Jersey apartment, working at her graphic design job for Helmut Lang from home. She says being cooped up in a small space.

THE SMOCKED DRESS While smocking isn’t necessarily new, this season designers and brands are committing to feminine scrunchie details in the daintiest, dreamiest silhouettes. From eye-catching pleats to girly floral prints, there’s nothing that screams summer more than these sundresses.

THE SEASHELL EARRING Add a little bit of wistfulness to your Summer 2019 wardrobe with a resort-ready piece. They’re not only exclusive to necklaces anymore; new designs have cropped up as ring embellishments, dangling earrings and hair accessories.

THE BERMUDA If there’s one surprising reemergence we’re looking forward to styling, it’s the Bermuda short. Besides their obvious comfort factor, these long, slimming shorts come in a variety of options; from utilitarian to denim. This summer, try the trend with a statement-making peasant or a lightweight blazer.

er mom, a talented writer in her own right, is drafting the fairytale to go along with the commissioned and crowdsourced images. The story is about a pixie who lives in a poppy flower, a common plant found in the South of France, which is where Lalonde’s mother has been self-isolating. “As my mom grew up, she stopped doing so much creative writing, but I think it’s really important for me to see that she has that outlet in her life. It’s exciting that she can let her imagination run loose and kind of become a kid again,” Lalonde says of her mother who sits on the board of the American School of Paris by day. “I would hope to give anyone that interacts with my work that feeling of childhood imagination and curiosity.”

AN OVERSEAS DISEASE THAT ONCE FELT SO FAR AWAY INFILTRATES THE LUNGS OF OUR ACQUAINTANCES,FRIENDS, AND LOVED ONES. THE USNS COMFORT SAILS PAST THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. Across America, the businesses of Main Street are closed. Cities, and their citizens, are under shelter in place. Social distancing, a phrase that didn’t exist in the cultural vernacular until March, is now a fine-enforced law in many states. An overseas disease that once felt so far away infiltrates the lungs of our acquaintances, friends, and loved ones. The USNS Comfort sails past the Statue of Liberty, a symbol equal parts haunting, hopeful, and heartbreaking, a reminder of how, in just three weeks, our lives have utterly, irreparably changed. But, as the saying goes, love endures—in wars, disasters, and even pandemics. And so do the attempts to find it.

If a typical first date in New York B.C. (before corona) begins at a bar, COVID-era courtships start on a screen. Dating companies like Here/Now are embracing Zoom, as are apps like Hinge. On Twitter recently, the dating app shared a set of digital backgrounds that mimic stereotypical first meetups: a picnic at a beach, a fancy hotel lounge, a path in the woods. (“We made some date backgrounds to help your Zoom dates feel a little more like real dates. Date from home and stay safe, everyone!” the company wrote.) The League, another members-only dating app, recently rolled out a video-chat feature that allows matches to digitally meet face-to-face without exchanging numbers. From March 15 to 22, the company saw a 41% increase in users. “People are embracing the fact that, okay, I can’t date in person. The closest thing I can do is talk to someone over video,” says Amanda Bradford, the League’s founder. Links to mass virtual gatherings—usually hosted on Zoom or its chaotic counterpart, Houseparty—are texted from group chat to group chat, giving you the chance to meet someone in pixelated person.

, which took place few months ago, has finally come to market. The first order of business is discerning the most impactful trends of the season—from artisanal crochet and graphic polka dots to a look at decades past via disco collars and ‘60s wallpaper prints, couture feathers, hot pants, bold neons, and many more. See which designers led the pack for each new mode before you give your wardrobe a refresh.

Whether you’re brushing up on what you’ve read or seen in past months or are simply a little late to the party, there’s no time like the present to get informed on what the must-have S/S 2020 trends are. Considering the fact that there are hundreds of runway shows each and every season, we certainly don’t expect you to go digging through them all to unearth the trends that will rise to the top. That’s what we’re here for.

FASHION 2020

This S/S 2020 season is one we are really excited about, and we know you will be too. Designers gifted us with collections that were the perfect marriage of wearable and innovative. The trends you’ll see highlighted for you below are the ones we saw repeated most frequently throughout the collections. They’re the ones that are the most digestible and the ones we’re predicting will be the heavy hitters all season long. Our list includes an assortment

of styles that are equal parts fresh and nostalgic. With that being said, it is with great excitement that we present to you our official spring/summer 2020 trend guide. Just keep scrolling to dive in. Spring Fashion Trends 2020Pinterest You’re probably familiar with the slip dress and bustier tops, but this season, lingerie is taking center stage in the ready-to-wear world as opposed to its usual seat underneath it all. The title for this trend theme couldn’t be any clearer:

Lingerie dressing is going way beyond the confines of the bedroom as traditional lingerie detailing such as hook and eye clasps, boning, garters, sheer paneling, tons of silks, lace, corsetry, and much more have worked their way into some of the most prominent spring collections. From Olivier Theyskens showing us that much less is much more to Dion Lee’s exciting take on all things boned and bound, the three trends ahead are our suggestion of where to start when it comes to tackling lingerie dressing this season.

FASHION SHOW

Garters—a belt traditionally used to hold up women’s stockings—were referenced multiple times throughout the season. We saw both the literal take via garter belts underneath blazers at Mugler in addition to more subtle odes to the piece at Helmut Lang. Whether you choose to show your support of this trend via a sultry night-out look or a cool tank with garter-like straps dripping from the hem, this detail is one we’re expecting to show up on dresses, tops, and skirts all season long. We know, we know—slip dresses are nothing new, and by now you probably own at least three in various colors, but this spring, we’re seeing a more literal take of the chemise work its way into everyday looks. We’re talking all the lace and colors that read a bit more boudoir (i.e., soft pinks, whites, and nudes) and a lot less street style. But that’s what we love about this fresh take on the familiar dress for spring. Before you cover your eyes and cringe at the idea of literally wearing a bra as a top, hear us out. While, yes, we saw many designers such as Loewe and Olivier Theyskens display bras that looked more like contents of a negligee drawer and less like tops, we saw the opposite as well thanks to satin bra tops at Givenchy and kitschy

co-ord sets at Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Style yours under a blazer or as a top all of its own. Either way, this is one trend we’re daring you to dabble in this season. Surprise, surprise— suits are still a thing, but we wouldn’t be talking about them in yet another trend guide if they weren’t still just as important. Luckily, there have been a handful of fresh updates to the world of suiting that will relight your fire for all things tailored and coordinated this season. With the addition of vests and waistcoats resulting in the return of three-piece suits, as well as

Bermuda shorts for the more casual gal, the sartorial world has proven that when it comes to a well-rounded wardrobe, a good suit is a must. There were certainly many suiting separates styled on the S/S 20 runways, but today, we want to highlight the more literal takes for spring so that you can suit up and shop accordingly. If you’re more of a “limbs out” kind of gal, then this next take on the suit is for you. Remember Bermuda shorts? Well, they are back and were spotted all over the runways showcasing a more casual take on the business-ready trend. Similar to vests, we saw longer shorts of all kinds appear on the runway as a trend on their own, further proving the importance of the shorts movement this spring. From Tibi’s cool-girl take to Givenchy’s office- and night out–ready ensemble, this is one major trend to watch this season. From Olivier Theyskens showing. FASHION 2020

Gird your loins and pockets, warm weather lovers. Summer is just around the corner, and we’re preparing our wardrobes by stashing away heavy leather and chunky knitwear in order to usher in the stylish season ahead. With an abundance of trends emerging from both the runways.

S ustainable is your vision? How circular is your economy? All were questions that proved more potent than any of the myriad spring/summer 2020 trends on trial during the biannual show season, as one of the most polluting industries on the planet struggled to get with the climate crisis programme. Never mind that newness, fashion’s lodestar, is suddenly out of step with the zeitgeist. Now, brands need to be clever: how can they repurpose, upcycle, and promote mindful purchasing while still delivering the shot of novelty that will hold customers’ fleeting attention spans and persuade them to dip into their. The biggest labels are taking the lead: as Gabriela Hearst put on what she termed the first carbon-neutral fashion show, in New York, Gucci announced a goal of net carbon neutrality through a combination of reducing and offsetting all carbon emissions from its supply chain. Its parent company Kering swiftly followed suit, committing to climate neutrality across the group. Others used their catwalk sets to signal a new mindful ap-

proach. Dior surrounded its runway with trees destined for replanting in Paris’s urban areas. Louis Vuitton kept things minimal, with bleached pine stadium seating sourced from sustainably managed pine forests in the Landes region of France which, it announced, would be repurposed after the show by the organisation ArtStock. There were smaller initiatives, too: in London, Roland Mouret partnered with Arch & Hook to create clothes hangers made from recycled marine plastic, while at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, the designers were making some pieces out of deadstock fabrics from previous. As for the clothes? On the whole, fashion houses are doubling down on their signatures. If you’re seeking the “ur” in tuxedo suits, head to Saint Laurent. Tweed? Set your style compass to Chanel. Similarly, it’s good news for classic wardrobe staples: denim, trench coats and shirting are all offered in smart combinations for spring. And when it comes to new ideas? Neon brights are proliferating, and shorts suits are having a moment. Here’s Vogue’s edit of the biggest spring/summer 2020 trends. BEST OF VOGUE In Your Inbox. Sign Up To The Vogue Newsletter.En-trenched. Fashion’s love affair with trench coats - that practical, dependable, goes-with-everything outerwear option - shows no signs of abating. This season it comes in fresh colourways (silver at JW Anderson, spearmint at Balenciaga), in snappy ’70s cuts with cheeky corsages (see Louis Vuitton) and in glossy finishes (Junya Watanabe). At Fendi, it even comes dressed for dinner. CUT OUT AND KEEP Erogenous zones are getting creative. Ever desired to expose a small section of

your mid-section? Head to Balmain. As for a triangle under your sternum? Oscar de la Renta, Emporio Armani and Missoni can all oblige. Even Rick Owens was keen for a cut-out-and-keep moment, in an extraordinary show that mixed twisted princess gowns with politics and giant soap bubbles in Paris’s Palais de Tokyo. Perhaps that’s the point of the new-look cut-out. The majority feel just a little “off” - not conventionally sexy, rather, unusual. SHORTS SUIT STORY Tailoring’s grip is as firm as ever for spring (if you’re looking to invest in an exemplary trouser suit, now’s the time) but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some new, well-cut proposals.
