(A group project with Humphrey Keung) As inpsired by the interaction between hula hool and waist, a special fabricwas made by weaving numerous paper modular units showing the action and the associate space created during such movement. This project was exhibited in the DETOUR 2010 and published in HKU Architecture Papers Vol.1: Hour 25.
(An internship project in dehow art & architecture) It is about designing a rock museum “in” an island, rather than have a conventional building on site, the island was viewd as a big piece of scholar rock with excavated spaces for displaying a series of rock collection. Research on openings was conducted ranged form the tunnel chamfer to cabinets.
The theme transparency was brought to the next stage of house design, a house with revolving structures was designed allowing users to freely adjust the level of transparency and privacy according to their needs.

art & architecture) Another interesting project during the internship training is to convert an existing swimming pool of an amusement park in Ning’xia into a pavilion. Analysis on tensile structure and sketch models were made.
the materail for the model need to be transparent to show the soft boundary within a stall as the program of different corners within a stall changes within a day. soap was firstly tested but it is solid in color and it bends when it is dried. gelatine with jelly powder (for giving color) was selected to be the material due to its transparency which is capble of creating the ambiguity between programs and space.
The intangile, flexible and ever-changing boundary of different programs, i.e. market, library and a theatre, did trigger off the building of sensorial model made of gelatine and jelly powder exhibiting the blurred spearation. In the design of a new complex accommodating a wet market, library and art centre in Shanghai, and the concept of “Soft Boundary” was borrowed & further developed.
A road is tool directing people from a point to another point while streets allow flâneur and the happenings of events. Say no to the brutal cut-off by podium approach development, the humanist street network with fine texture sould be preserved. A reimagination of the Kwun Tong redevelopment was proposed with a mixture of the old urban fabric, the new building blocks and a central green spine as a transitional space.

As a restaurant themed with the ocean, design features echoing the sea and marine life, from the tile flooring to the furniture silhouettes was used to link various zones of the restaurant. Design of furniture and lighting fixtures were included.
The project was commenced in 2012. It was changed from an office tower to a residential building and at the end the client confirmed that it will serve as a serviced apartment. With the play of the building volumes, various terraces and balcony spaces were introduced while ceramic tubes were used as the sun shading devices to create different transparency level and dissolve the conventional cold feeling of a tower faced with curtain wall.

FALL 2017
Hengbang Tower in Xiamen is a 19 storey high tower situated in the city centre of Xiamen by the artficial water body channelled to the sea. Inspired by the Chinese mythological animals dragon and the flower bougainvillea planted extensively in the city, the motifs of the flower petal and dragon scales can be found in the project.

A multitude of architectural design strategies echoing the physical and cultural context were applied to shape it as a new landmark in the garden city in spite of its modest height. Inspired by a Chinese scroll painting depicting dragons in the air, a series of metallic dragon scale features was designed on the podium block elevations. With the play of the building volumes, various terraces and balcony spaces were introduced while ceramic tubes were used as the sun shading devices to create different transparency level and dissolve the conventional cold feeling of a tower faced with curtain wall. Prior to the architectural design of the project, EMBT was later commissioned to work on the landscape, visual identity and interior design of the project. The dominating challenge of the project is frequent changes of ideas due to the alternation of the property ownership and thus the program (from office tower to residential tower to serviced apartment) the change of project manager from the client. The studio also tried to put its humane philosophy into practice by making the public space as open as possible. Miracoli a Milano – Scali Milano
FALL 2017
EMBT Team is called to give a “vision” for seven former railway yards (scali) in Milan, icons of the past Golden Age of the city’s railways.
Scalo Farini
These areas are today a fracture between adjacent neighborhoods. Therefore, their future transformation will allow an organic development of Milan, innovative and at the same time deeply linked with its history. Milan, together with other European metropolis, is questioning about the main issues in terms of urban development. In particular, it focuses on new concepts such as urban agriculture, participatory and circular economy, soft mobility, sustainability, etc., that represent the aim to re-shape the city from now on as a place in which you can find the missing connection between human dimension and nature.
academia . practice
The Water will be a support and a medium for this regeneration: it will be the “miraculous” element linking City, Nature, History and different users such as pedestrians, bicycles and skaters, and transforming Milan into a more comfortable and happy place to live.

In the project, I was in charge of the 3D modeling of the site model and the proposed intervention. The site is seated on an artificial island in Zhengzhou District New CBD in which the master plan was done by Kisho Kurokawa. Water is the predominant element of the future district. Being inspired by the diverse properties of water, its fluidity and organic shapes, the design is embedded with play of transparency on building volumes, organic forms curvilinear shapes of the landscape. Every intervention is fluid and closely integrated, the lines of the project begin and terminate into the lines of the water. Cultural motifs of Central China Civilization e.g. calligraphy, ink painting and artifacts are also borrowed and translated into the architecture. The design of the waterfront public space plays an important role to link all the subprojects and also the adjacent existing buildings together. In the 16 th Edition of the Venice Biennale themed “Freespace“. EMBT defined a freespace as a woven space echoing past projects like 2010 Shanghai World Expo Spanish Pavilion’s wicker envelope and the pergola of the Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil metro station in Paris.
Clichy-Montfermeil metro station
Weaving Architecture, here in La Biennale, deals with the concept of weaving at different scales: weaving the city through its metro, weaving activities of people in the public space, weaving the structure of the canopy to dress it with fiber fabrics.

This architecture, like the infrastructure it represents, links territories and builds a sense of social inclusion by manifesting architecture’s social role. Besides experimentation of different materials like fabrics carbon fiber and I-mesh, the interpretation of “Freespace“ and re-concstruction of and representation of shelter structure were studied. The tendering for a commercial complex of over 97,000 m2 floor area consists of retail & catering spaces, cultural venues and office buidlings located near the Longhua Temple. Connecting the old and new, local and global; blending the chic and the heritage is the key concept of this project. Special attention is paid towards the historical and cultural legacy of Longhua Temple, and the adjacent water body. From observing the site geographical conditions, an interesting hierarchy of the water system was found, from the Longhua River (canal) to the Huangpu River to the sea. Huangpu River has a symbolic meaning to Shanghai and it is an important element in defining the local culture. While the Longhua Temple, with over 1000 years of history, is the oldest temple in Shanghai, representing a key element for the legacy of the city. The oldest historical heritage and the latest development in Shanghai conglomerate on the site. The galleria typology is borrowed from European cities to create a new identity for the place. Blended with vernacular Chinese architectural elements, this iconic pergola is reinvented to lead the flows to Vanke Shopping District, generating a hierarchical system with the main avenue highlighted. It offers the customers shaded areas and comfortable environment to stroll around. This thesis explores architectural interventions to humanize an undesirable, pre-existing infrastructure, which has had a negative impact on its neighborhood. Such NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) facilities, perceived to be negative assets, can be made beneficial to the community using diverse architectural strategies. Apart from conventional mediation treatments byaliteral beautification of the envelope, a number of disciplines are harnessed in this thesis to show how subversive combinations of programs and interventions at different scales, can allow a NIMBY asset to contribute to its locality as its fundamental function intended it to, while also being transformed into a welcome PIIMBY (Put It In My Backyard) facility. Beyond conventional physical construction, this thesis project manifests the potential of the cross-disciplinary nature of architecture.

In the design of the facade system, not only the ease of execution should be considered for the sake of public engagement in the construction, the aesthetics should be by no mean be compromised. As the massiveness of the plant complex is a dominating design issue need to be addressed, the facade system will be used for breaking the massive volume. On top of the rammed earth wall are the weatherproofing clerestories for introduction of natural ventilation, the patterns vary on different elevations so that the view into the plant will change from different angles and the elevation porosity is higher at the elevation facing the dwelling. On the administrative tower, larger IBA blocks members are applied for natural lighting for the office and lab programs.

Because of the significance of tea in Songyang County, (1/3 of population is participated in tea industry; 1/3 od argicaultural productivity is generated from tea industry and it is where the largest green tea wholesale market locate), indepth comprehensive research of tea industry was conducted. Structured according to different scales, XS-XL, the research on tea was carried out in parallel to the Burgundy’s wine industry because of the very similar landscape and geographical condidtions.

The project name “FOOD AFLOAT” suggests that an unique floating dining experience would be offered for visitor to savor water people’s food culture. The long liner fishing vessel was selected as the ideal place for the operation. It is a home a a number of sampans which are used by assisting fishing like spreading the net. The long liner would be used as a mother boat/ base containing the main kitchen and auxiliary amenities like educational gallery. Sampans will be uploaded and become an individual dining-cooking mobile station operated by fishermen. Besides the consideration of construction, the economic operation and the environmental impact were considered in this urban ecology studio project.

Impact of Reclamation
Reclamation is an effective mean to produce flat land. However, it also brings adverse effects to the natural environment. 1. With narrower channel, the water turbulence will become more violent. 2. Storm sewers have to be lengthened to reach the coast and probability of flooding along the coast will be higher due to low gradient of flat land. 3. Dredging of soil/clay from seabed for reclamation is highly destructive to marine and coastal habitat . 4. Less space for navigation and mooring.

Prior to using hinges which is not architectural, axis system was developed for the folding kit. Instead of using polycarbonate (1.7kg/sqm of 10mm corrugated sheet) which is lighter, timber are suggested as it add the sense of warmth to the installation and has a higher aesthetic valuue. Toxic pollutants that caused in the production of polycarbonate could be avoided.
