INTERNATIONAL

MIDLANDS INTERNATIONAL POLO TOURNAMENT The Indian team went to South Africa to play at Lions River Polo Club in the KZN Midlands which hosted its ď€ rst International Polo Tournament on Sunday, 6 May. The inaugural International match between the host South Africa and India was organised by the South African Polo Association.

South Africa Tom De Bruin (C)

Tom was born in KwaZulu Natal. He has represented SA both at school and at senior level, having played polo professionally around the world. Some of the major tournaments he has participated in, are the Queens Cup, Gold Cup, Royal Windsor Cup.

Michael Osborn

Mike plays for the Lions River Polo Club. He grew up in the Kokstad area and played for the local Kokstad Club. He plays in the No 3 position. He has represented South Africa at the World Cup Play-Offs in Iran in 2017.

Martin Watson

Martin plays for the Lions River Polo Club. He normally plays in the No 2 or 3 position and is a very hard hitter of the ball. He previously played for SA Schools in New Zealand in 2014 which their team won.

Tysen O’Sullivan

Tysen plays for the Karkloof Polo Club. He plays in the No 1 position and is fast into position and strong on the ball. He has represented SA Schools that same year when they toured Zimbabwe.


INDIA Col Ravi Rathore (C)

Ravi is the only Indian player to have achieved the rare feat of representing India for ďŹ ve successive World Cups from 2003 to 2017. He was also the captain of Indian Polo Team for the last two World Cups (2014-15 and 2017-18). He has represented India and the Indian Army in over 25 countries over the last two decades

Gaurav Sahgal

Gaurav is a young, up and coming polo player from India. He captained the Students University Polo Association Championship in the UK which his team won and he was also awarded MVP. He has represented India numerous times including in Barbados where his team won the tournament.

Siddhant Sharma

3

Siddhant is another young up and coming Indian polo player who represented India in the 2017 World Cup Zonal Playoffs in Iran and subsequently the Finals in Australia. He has played in all the major tournaments in India including the IPA Championship.

Salim Azmi

3

Salim started playing polo in 2002 and became professional in 2011. He has participated in most of the major tournaments in India and plays for the Sona Polo Team. He can play at any position and is a very disciplined and accomplished rider who works hard for his team.

HH Sawai Padmanabh Singh

He represented India in the 2017 World Cup Zonal Playoffs in Iran and the Finals in Australia. He has played polo in England, Argentina, USA, Thailand, Italy, Switzerland, Colombia and the UAE.

Record crowds were drawn to the Lions River on Sunday as South Africa faced India in the inaugural International polo match. Man of the match was awarded to Mike Osborn. The Best Playing Pony Award was given to “Wyzoo” owned by Rory Bryden and ridden by Colonel Ravi Rathore as well as “Clyde” owned by Ben Crowe and ridden by Siddhant Sharma.

Indian players take part in Underberg South Africa 13 goal tournament The Indian Team gained vital experience and played with the South African teams as one. The talented players enjoyed the high quality polo and performed brilliantly for their respective teams in the South African condition as they played for different teams. SUN CUP FINAL Dutta Corp vs Newport The Sun Cup nal at the grand Champions Polo Club saw Dutta Corp defeat Newport to win the Sun Cup for the third consecutive year. It was a rematch of the 2016 nal when these sides faced each other, and this time as well, it was Dutta Corp that came out on top with 10-6 victory after shutting out Newport in four of the six chukkers played. Former 10-goaler, Piki Diaz Alberdi was named the MVP while, Tambor, played by Lucas Diaz Alberdi was named the Best Playing Pony.

Army Commander’s Cup 2018 SECUNDERABAD Indian Army faced Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club (HPRC) in the Army Commanders Polo Cup 2018. The match was conducted by Bison Riding and Polo Institute (BRPI) at Bison Polo ground, Secunderabad. Indian Army were leading by 6-3 at the end of the third chukker and went on to win the match by 7 goals to 3. Senior Armed Forces ofcials and veterans and their families witnessed the match and other events.

The teams and schedule have been announced for the 2018 Prince of Wales 22 goal tournament. The teams will go head to head against each other Friday onwards at The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club.

50th edition of the Barcelona Polo Challenge The tournament is in its preliminary stage right now and will have its semi finals on May 12th, 2018 at the the Real Polo Club de Barcelona.

Tyro Cup (8-12 handicap) The Tyro Cup which started on May 3rd has its classification games going on and the final will be played on Sunday, 13th May 2018 at the Cowdray Park Polo Club.

The Tournoi de Printemps The first tournament of the Polo de Paris triple crown kicked off on Saturday. It will have its final on Sunday, May 13th, 2018.

HANDICAP CHANGES The April handicap changes have been completed by the Club Delegates, the NHC members and the USPA staff Following is the informa on regarding the process that was used for these changes.  In accordance with the NHC Policy, handicap raises will have a “lag” date of Jan 1, 2019 for raise decisions made at this mee ng. The excep ons to this are for players that the NHC voted to have an expedited effec ve date, which then go into effect June 1. 

All handicap lowers to be effec ve June 1, 2018.
