Berthe Morisot - Summer’s Day
6
When the second Impressionist exhibition opened in the spring of 1876 in Paris, one critic described its participants as “five or six lunatics, one of which is a woman.” The woman, Berthe Morisot, who in spite of her gender became a leading figure of the most famous artistic movement of the nineteenth century. Based upon the common values between the house of Christian Dior and Berthe Morisot, this collection focuses on women with passion and no boundaries, an independent soul. Getting inspiration from mid 1800’s century silhouettes and embroideries elements of Berthe Morisot’s era are combined with a contemporary touch. The "heart shape" and "J'adior" are leitmotifs through the collection which represents the solidarity among women which Maria Grazia Chiuri conveys in her latest collections for the house. 7

JACMEL Haitians practice voodoo outside their main religion. They paint their body parts for a special voodoo celebration. They have hounfers, which are like mass, and in these hounfers the chanting of the people causes a trance in which loas, voodoo gods that represent the aspect of nature, can communicate with the houngan, the male priest. Getting inspiration from their voodoo practice and the way they paint their bodies, I created an allover prints collection using mainly watercolor. The shapes I designed represent the mysterious vibe that The Haiti society have but on the other hand the shapes reflects a more contemporary outlook. 33

NYAU The main inspiration for this collection is coming from Nyau, a spritual secret society of the Chewa, an ethnic group from southern Africa and their masquerade dances “Gule Wamkulu. The dancers should wear masks representing the dead, human being or an animal. The costumes they are wearing are usually colorful, unusual, hand-made with a lot of details. 51
