LARA SPILLER CREATIVE PORTFOLIO
I styled and directed this photo shoot in response to a self-directed brief on the influence of household objects on fashion. I created the aprons using paper doillies and J-cloths for a subtle but quirky take on the 1950s pin-up image of women.
Fashion designer Lara Dumbleton commissioned me to photograph pieces from her graduate collection (left). As the collection took influence from the circus, I aimed to exaggerate the theme through use of styling, while ensuring her garments remained the focus of the image.
These stills are taken from a film I created exploring the relationship between fashion and animals. I styled three looks: wild, avian and aquatic, to build an intriguing narrative in which the model adopts the relevant animal’s characteristics.
For a competition brief set by D&AD, I designed a perfume range based on the theme of each perfume. I chose to embody the emotion captured in each scent through Greek mythological gods and goddesses to create a slick and sophisticated outcome synonymous with the L’Artisan Parfumeur brand.
I created these promotional items for a hypothetical brand I created called ‘Harlequin’, based on the word ‘theatrical’ and circus influences. Items included an event invitation, bag, perfume box (opposite) as well as a magazine cover and t-shirt design.
For a competition brief set by All Walks and i-D Magazine titled ‘Diversity Now!’, I wanted to promote a positive and achievable aspect of diversity by styling, photographing and interviewing a female bodybuilder within the format of a zine.
For a magazine feature, I styled and photographed neckpieces by jewellery designer Jasmine Bowden. As the collection was designed to bring awareness to the decline of the bee population and the impact it has on our environment, I chose to emphasize this message by projecting an edited version of one of her original drawings onto the model. One of my images was printed in Professional Jeweller June 2012.
For S/S13, I predicted the trend ‘Neo Industrialism’, based on the rise in 3D printing technology. The trend has a neutral colour palette, with an emphasis on sculptural form and voluminous shape.
For my magazine Pepper, I sourced garments from Emma Scott, a fashion designer whose structured tailoring and pastel colour palette perfectly suited my target market of young working women. I photographed and styled the images.
I styled this shoot for fashion designer Masato’s A/W 11/12 collection. I took influence from the 1940s era to give his pieces a sophisticated and vintage edge.
I photographed pieces from jewellery designer Jasmine Bowden’s collection, based on minerals from the Royal Cornwall Museum.
