HELLO TRAVELERS We’ve been travel dreaming most of this year. We can’t wait to start travel doing. More destinations open up with each passing month. We’ve been keeping diligent tabs on the safety and entry protocols of each and marveling at the truly remarkable ways our partners have found to craft beautiful itineraries while keeping safety at top of mind. Whether you view the holiday season as your chance to venture back out into the world or you’re not quite ready to leave but want to start making firm plans, the gift of travel might very well be the best one you can give.

We’ve taken it for granted over the years, but travel really is a gift. It transports us to parts of the world so different from our own we can’t help but linger on them in our memories whenever we allow
our minds to wander. This year, much of the world has been closed off to us. Our focus has been much closer to home. And now when our minds can wander, we think about the places we absolutely have to see, the moments we need to have. These are the places we’ve always wanted to go but put off for one reason or another. We assumed we’d always have another chance. All of us have re-examined our lives this year. We want to create better memories, memories with friends we haven’t seen for months, with family that involve the space outside our four walls and yard. We want to have fun. We want to check off the big trips on our bucket list. The Great Migration is a big one. Hundreds of thousands of zebras and wildebeests cross the plains of the Masai Mara each summer and fall, stretching out as far as the eye can see. East Africa is a great place to go in search of the big five, and if you go inland from there you trek after the equally impressive mountain gorillas of Rwanda and Uganda. Southern Africa also gives safari-goers a chance to spot the big five, along with a vast array and landscapes itself, from the swamps of the Okavango Delta to the dunes of Namibia. Madagascar has rows of baobabs, frolicking lemurs and a world of its own. Another place unto itself is the Galapagos. The variety of wildlife and potential for discovery

is no less awe-inspiring than it was when Charles Darwin first saw the islands almost 200 years ago. You can see the only penguins that go north of the equator and tortoises that have kept right on living for more than 100 years. Birds that make their homes hundreds of miles from the nearest coast show off their mating rituals and raise their families on these islands, timeless traditions carrying on far removed from the rest of the world. While you’re down that way, you might cruise down Amazon, hike Machu Picchu or explore the hidden gem that is Colombia. Australia and New Zealand have always seemed far away. Perhaps that’s why many of us have had them on our bucket lists but not made it yet. They’ve never seemed farther away than when we couldn’t even visit. We long to see dawn break over Uluru, to dive into the Dreamtime. We ache to savor and save the Great Barrier Reef. The forests, the mountains, the lakes, the fjords, the everything of New Zealand is out there begging to be experienced. There are other islands out there in the South Pacific, smaller but no less full of vibrant culture and teeming with natural abundance. The are colder climes too, places at the ends of the earth that have staked a foothold in our imaginations because of their stark beauty. In these places, penguins crowd together in their colonies, polar bears forage across the tundra and lights dance across the night sky. Though the temperatures may be cold, these places find ways to penetrate all those layers and get our blood pumping. A night out in the middle of nowhere staring up at the stars and restoring
our sense of wonder is just the sort of thing we need to wrap our minds around all that we’ve persevered through this year. We have a lot on our bucket lists. We know you do too. Virtuoso Wanderlist can help you start
