The Great Evolution of Our Bread Making

Page 1

Over the years, bread making has been a part of our rich history before man learned to use toastmaster bread machine. Man cultivated wheat since the ancient times before our historians even began writing about our history. According to anthropologists, early hunters and gatherers first stock up on grains as their food source. When they noticed that grains are able to sprout once it got wet, they decided to plant it. Later on, the grains yielded more seeds for them. Did you know that wheat was first chewed instead of used in baking? Back in Mesopotamia and Egypt, it was how they eat wheat before they discovered that it can be turned to a powder and mixed with water to make a paste.

Our ancestors have tried to set the paste into the fire and the paste hardened and turned into flat bread. Before, when our ancestors discovered how to make the first bread, there are no such things as preservatives added in it. Their bread can last for several days and it didn’t take them so much time till they discovered that bread can b leavened when yeast was accidentally mixed with wheat paste. Around 1000 BC, isolated yeast was used in bread by the Egyptians then, enhanced wheat was developed which allowed our ancestors to refine bread. In fact, this refined bread was referred as the first ever modern bread recorded in the history.

Later on, the ancient Greeks learned the art of bread making from the Egyptians. From Greece, the practice of making bread has spread over the rest of Europe especially to Rome. Our historians have recorded that Romanians treat bread as more vital than meat. Even soldiers felt incomplete if they were not given a piece of bread in their meal.

After the years of making bread, its practice has spread all over the globe especially to the countries and states that Europeans have visited. Before, bread was commonly baked in large ovens that are made of stone and uses charcoal. Now, we are using modern ovens and baking machines like toastmaster bread machine. Believe it or not, bread has been one of our most staple foods which are written in the history. Bread has been an important symbol and part even in religious books especially to Christians. But now, we have toastmaster bread machine that can instantly bake our bread in just a few clicks. Of course, the flour and yeast need processing and kneading but the effort will be less. So, toastmaster bread machine is the king of fast baking.
