3D SCANNING & PRINTING
The following works are projects executed from concept to final construction. From brainstorm, sketch, scale model, planning, budgeting, to building, each part of the process was equally important in creating the end product.

Amazon Jute
MATERIALS & TECHNOLOGY MANIPULATING AND SAMPLING THE USE OF JUTE The challenge of this project was to take a discarded material and turn it into a desirable product. Inspiration came from my family’s heritage and my grandparent’s life-long work as educators and missionaries to the Trio Indians in the Amazon Jungle. Life in the middle of the rain forest, with no access to western amenities, required them to reduce, reuse and recycle out of necessity rather than environmental awareness. This in combination with the mass production of coffee beans from the Amazon region drew me to the material of choice. Jute is used to package and ship coffee beans to consumers all over the world. However, after shipping the material is discarded rather than reused. Jute has been popular in design as an accent. It is a natural, strong and durable material. Through more textile play and application it could re-enter the market, fitting into an array of home and fashion settings. In my research and sampling I played with the concept of high end design and the inclusion of jute by manipulating the textile in different ways.

SOCIAL COMMENTARY CAGED BY THE MEDIA This project began with the concept of “up-cycled”. Through the process of word-web brainstorming, the idea of a graphic commentary on consumerism arose. The TV was found near a dumpster on a Barcelona street, like so much other excess waste in the city. I stripped the tube from the casing and used the remaining TV frame to turn it into a cage for mice. Like lab mice that tests are run on, media and marketing firms also run tests on society for their own gain. A trendy living room adorned with consumer pop art and the cartoon “Pinky and the Brain” playing on miniature screen at the center of it all mimics a modern home and focuses on the concept of people surrounded by comfort and entertainment. All of this, placed in the context of an animal cage implies the lack of freedom and control individuals actually have within a society run by media and popular culture.
The Red Lipstick Campaign
The Red Lipstick Campaign is a portrait photography exhibit that displays women’s portrait along side their personal experience as women in Moldova. The aim of this campaign is to empower women to be strong while still embracing their femininity. Women ought to demand the respect they deserve, but this can be intimidating in a world shadowed with chauvinistic expectations. By creating bold images of women and having each one share their personal story, our hope is to encourage women who might not otherwise use their voice to speak up and empower them to demand the respect they deserve. Why red lipstick? Red lipstick is bright and bold and it demands attention. Women’s equality and rights demands everyone’s attention. We must stand for it together.
CAMPAIGN FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT SHARING CAREER SKILLS AND SERVICES IN MOLDOVA Ad Astra Group strives to curb youth unemployment and labor migration by informing young people about educational and professional opportunities, preparing young people for entry into the world of work and facilitating a platform where young professionals and companies can connect in order to develop lasting and fruitful professional relationships. The website adastragroup.org was created to be a free, user friendly resource to share content with young professionals in order to assist them with their career development. My role as creative director was to design the layout and user experience. This was done using the Adobe Suite and Joomla! as a web platform. The art vectors and photography are all open source material adjusted to suite Ad Astra’s brand identity, with the acception of the three characters used to identify the “explore, experiment, connect” categories. These were custom drawn by artist, Taylor Hillberry.
