Getting ready to explore the mysterious world of Chinese Medicine!
Western Medicine School of medical is one of the most important part in China Medical University. Since established, the medical school has developed based on the core institutional values: Compassion, Prudence, Dignity and Integrity. On these institutional values, the Medical School sets its teaching objectives to cultivate prospective medical doctors with the characters of being: Altruistic, Knowledgeable, Skillful and Dutiful. To become a doctor, medical students have to go through 6-year course and 2-year post graduate years. For the 6-year school time, in the front 4 years, all professional subjects, such as anatomy, pathology, physiology and so on, are points that students have to get. And in the later 2-year hospital years, students become clerks following the attending to learn clinical skills and technology. After 6 years, students graduate and enter post graduate years (abbreviated PGY in following). In PGY, the goal of them is to operate medical process, to face real circumstances and to truly touch and feel patients’ suffering. Through all the 8-year training, medical students are finally admitted to become a resident doctor. There are 11 medical schools in Taiwan. However, different from other schools, medical school of CMU is the only one that combines Western and Chinese medicine together. Western medicine is effective on curing diseases and healing wounds. On the other side, Chinese medicine is helpful for rehabilitation. Both Western and Chinese doctors work together and arrange best recovery plan for patients.
