Google Now Google’s personal assistant found in Android 4.3 and up. In Marshmallow (6.0), it expanded to include a contextual engine called Google Now on Tap, which provides contextual information on the current screen of a phone. It uses data from other Google services to provide proactive information it thinks the user will find useful.
Siri Siri is an assistant released by Apple with iOS 5.0, with the iPhone 4S. It provides reliable answers to all basic requests, and has a surprisingly good set of jokes or chatty quips. It cannot learn the user’s interests, because of Apple’s limited expertise in the field, but it does recommend apps and contacts based on your previous activity. This service is very unpolished.
Cortana Cortana was released by Microsoft for WIndows Phone with version 8.1. It has been rough since then, and while it has a better chat than Siri, it lacks the knowledge to make it a contender. It is too quick to refer to a web search, and has a shallow knowledge engine because of its Bing integration.
Echo Amazon Echo is a standalone assistant released in 2014. It integrates with the assistant Alexa, Amazon’s voice based assistant. Echo is a dedicated device with its own microphones and processors, which was built as a home asistant. Because of it’s limitied uses, it naturally has some product limitations.
