Mushroom Info: American Ceasar Amanita – (Edible) Amanita caesarea, commonly known as Caesar’s mushroom, is a highly regarded edible mushroom in the genus Amanita, native to southern Europe and North Africa. While it was first described by Giovanni Antonio Scopoli in 1772, this mushroom was a known favorite of early rulers of the Roman Empire. Angel of Death – (Poisonous) Amanita ocreata, commonly known as the death angel, destroying angel, and angel of death. Amanita ocreata is highly toxic, and has been responsible for mushroom poisonings in western North America, particularly in the spring. Blue Stain Mushroom – (Non-Edible) Chlorociboria aeruginascens, is found on decaying hardwoods mainly in the fall but is not limited to that season. Cauliflower – (Edible) Sparassis is a genus of parasitic and saprobic mushrooms characterised by their unique shape and appearance. This appearance can be described as similar to a sea sponge, a brain, or a head of cauliflower, from which it has been given its popular name. Chanterelles – (Edible) They are among the most popular of wild edible mushrooms. They are orange, yellow or white, meaty and funnel-shaped. Chicken of the Wood – (Edible) Some species, especially Laetiporus sulphureus, are commonly known as sulphur shelf, chicken of the woods, the chicken mushroom, or the chicken fungus because many think they taste like chicken.
Coral Mushroom - The clavarioid fungi are a group of fungi in the Basidiomycota typically having erect, simple or branched basidiocarps that are formed on the ground, on decaying vegetation, or on dead wood. Fly Agaric – (Poisonous) Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, is a basidiomycete of the genus Amanita. It is also a muscimol mushroom. Jack O’Lantern – (Poisonous) Omphalotus olearius, commonly known as the jack-o’-lantern mushroom, is a poisonous orange gilled mushroom that to an untrained eye appears similar to some chanterelles. It is notable for its bioluminescent properties Oyster – (Edible) Pleurotus ostreatus, the pearl oyster mushroom or tree oyster mushroom, is a common edible mushroom. Puffballs – (Edible) are fungi, so named because clouds of brown dust-like spores are emitted when the mature fruitbody bursts or is impacted. True puffballs do not have a visible stalk or stem. All white puffballs are edible. Turkey Tails – (Non-edible) Meaning ‘of several colors’, versicolor reliably describes this fungus that displays different colors. Reishi – (Edible) The lingzhi mushroom is a polypore mushroom belonging to the genus Ganoderma. Its red-varnished, kidney-shaped cap gives it a distinct appearance. When fresh, the lingzhi is soft, cork-like, and flat. It lacks gills on its underside, and instead releases its spores via fine pores.
