Han Yajuan Han Yujuan is a Chinese contemporary artist. She was born in Qingdao and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou and her Master of Fine Art from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Han Yajuan currently lives and works in Beijing. In her older works, Han Yujuan aims to depict the lives of her generation of young Chinese women. Her cute Kawaii style characters are a celebration of the newfound abundance of choices and chances, which were not afforded to previous generations of indeed to her as a child. By juxtaposing her signature female figures with an affinity for high fashion and opulent style, she illustrates both the desires and burgeoning opportunities, which influence the new, globally minded generation of Chinese women In Han Yujuan’s recent works, she uses her signature chic girls to explore the unknown world behind reality from a surreal standpoint. In staggered, multidimensional and temporal spaces, between reality and imagination, eccentric scenes arrowse the viewer to survey the real-life from an atypical position, to ultimately reach a new level of awareness and consciousness.

Investment History According to Reuters’ “The Hot Young Artists League”, Han Yujuan is ranked as 7th in the world based on global auction totals before any artists 30th birthday.

In first place and vastly ahead of anybody else, is Jean-Michel Basquiat, who of course died in 1988 at the age of 27. The overwhelming majority of his $16.6 million was posthumous. $15.3 million came in 1989 and 1990. Basquiat aside, there’s an impressively Asian tinge to this list with 5 of the other 9 artists coming from China, Korea or Japan. Notably, the appositely named Choi So Young saw more than $2m of her work sold at auction before she was 30 - an achievement which historically neither female artists nor Korean artists would ever dream of. This does not mean that Asian artists have more success at a younger age than their US & European counterparts, it probably just means that hot young US and European artists have galleries which are better at keeping close tabs on their work and preventing it from coming up for auction.
