CANDIDATE FOR DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE Candidate: Nichole Pressley
BRIEF STATEMENT OF PLATFORM For the past 14 years, I have completed investigations, reviewed complaints, participated in multidisciplinary peer review and root cause analyses within the healthcare industry. The investigational works have allowed me the opportunity to work with Hospital/System Administration, Risk Management, Privacy, Cybersecurity, Corporate Compliance, Medical Affairs, and Legal. The healthcare system I work for, Memorial Healthcare System, has 14,000+ employees and 3,000 physicians. The healthcare system contains 6 acute hospitals, 13 emergency departments, 3 urgent care centers, 1 nursing home/skilled nursing facility, several primary care clinics and employed physician offices. The investigational review committees in which I have been a member of include Multidisciplinary Peer Review, Root Cause Analysis, Performance Improvement/Risk Management, and Privacy/Information Technology. While working in an acute hospital setting, I was a member of the Multidisciplinary Peer Review (MPR), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Performance Improvement/Risk Management (PIRM) Committees. The RCA committee was tasked to investigate unexpected patient events resulting in injury or death (sentinel events). The other committees investigated patient complaints, incident reports from employee/physicians, and peer case reviews. With my background in root cause analysis and quality improvement as well as expert knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and other applications, I currently investigate potential privacy violations for the Privacy/Information Technology (IT) committee as a member of the IT/Clinical Informatics department. I have been a member of a Privacy/IT Committee for the past five years. These investigations review violations in protected health information (PHI) for patients and/or personally identifiable information (PII) for employees and medical staff. This committee was created as a response to a three-year corrective action plan with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. In addition to investigations, I assist the Privacy/IT committee with updating policies and training education as well as marketing campaigns to provide collateral materials to employees and medical staff. Disciplinary actions for the healthcare system include warnings (with written notice), suspension, fines, and termination of position. Due to the policies and procedures of the healthcare system, employees are not reinstated once terminated from their position. De-
pending on the investigation, education may be provided to all employees and physicians regarding correct processes and workflows. In addition, I individually investigate medical staff inquiries for the Chief Medical Officer of an acute hospital. My work experience would make me a great asset to the Disciplinary Committee as it has similar tasks to the Disciplinary Committee. There is the collection of facts, review to see if the reported issue has merit, and providing a decision based on
the investigational findings. In addition, investigations are extremely sensitive and confidential. As a member of the healthcare industry, I understand the importance of discretion, privacy, and protection of all parties involved in an investigation. Thank you for your time and consideration of my application
