Being a Zeta leader to me means that in order to truly be my sister’s keeper, I must lead by example. I had the honor of being inducted into this prestigious sorority in Spring of 2022 which came with great honor but even greater responsibility. In the beginning it was many times I learned how to lead through trial and error and spending a lot of my free time communicating with older Sorors wether it be for advice or sometimes to vent out frustrations. Although I have only been part of the organization for 9 months the two main lessons i learned is the importance of “falling forward” and reminding my fellow chapter members of our “why”. Understanding that the work we put in to showcase the sisterhood through service and scholarship is not merely for satisfaction, but to pay homage to our pearls who created a foundation for our zeal.

Being a Zeta Leader means being able to raise my fellow Sorors up in the name of collective voice and action in order to make an impact in our community and open doors and seats to those who don’t have access.

The wonderful thing about leadership is that the skills you acquired in your professional life are transferrable to leading in Zeta. The same joy that I received in my professional life from seeing others connected to my team grow in their development, is the same joy that I receive with Zeta. There is a difference; while I do not receive monetary reward from leading in Zeta, I do receive tremendous joy and satisfaction in seeing the growth in my wonderful and beloved sisters. There is nothing like true sisterhood!!
Being a Zeta Leader allows me the opportunity to guide and inspire others. Those are two things that I love to do. It allows me to be a mentor to a younger Soror. I get the chance to truly show my love for Zeta. It allows me the ability to keep my chapter aligned with the national, regional, and state goals that are set. It also allows me the opportunity to listen to goals and objectives of chapter members. I love being a Zeta Leader because I am truly my sister’s keeper.
It’s a rewarding experience fostering an environment where you are building up one another. Being a Zeta Leader is all about your actions, not your position as a leader. Being a Zeta Leader is understanding that you are a servant, and that you are not to be served. Being a Zeta Leader means spreading the passion for what you do, inspiring others to do, bringing out of your Sorors the ability to be of their full self as we serve. Being a Zeta Leader is understanding that you don’t know it all or have all the answers. Being a Zeta Leader, you are always Learning.
