Yes. Seriously.

Following the EF3 tornado that destroyed the former home of Tech Softball – the Lady Techster Softball Complex – in April of 2019, the University made the commitment to build it back bigger and better.

Home run.

Dr. Billy Bundrick Field opened on March 5, 2021, when Tech hosted Tarleton State in the first game of the LA Tech Invitational – a 6-3 victory by the Lady Techsters.

The field includes a Fieldturf Double Play surface (both infield and outfield) with dimensions at 200 down both the right and left field lines and 220 to straight away centerfield. Named in honor of the legendary Hall of Fame team orthopedic Dr. Billy Bundrick, the facility seats a capacity of 1,000 with chairbacks, bleacher seats and berm seating areas.

Although Tech posted a 7-10 record at home in the inaugural season of the new facility (during a Covid19 capacity restricted year), the Lady Techsters hosted some P5 programs including Oklahoma, Mississippi State and Baylor.

In the second year of the program, Dr. Billy Bundrick Field became one of the toughest places in Conference USA for opponents to play. After dropping the first three games of the year at home, Tech won 19 of the last 20, including a memorable 8-7 walk-off victory over Southern Miss on the final day of the regular season that gave program only its second regular season conference title ever.

Other details of the state-of-the-art field include: • Four fixed cameras installed for in-game analytics and online streaming • Restrooms and concessions on the concourse level • Press box features booths for scoreboard operations, home and visiting team radio, television production, writing press and in-game analytics

The Origin Bank Softball & Soccer Complex is a two-story facility that stands between Dr. Billy Bundrick Field and Robert Mack Caruthers Field, housing the operations for both the softball and soccer programs.

The first floor features an athletic training room that serves the needs of both Lady Techster teams on a daily basis. The space consists of treatment tables, rehab equipment, offices and cold tubs. Softball has a team meeting room that seats 28 in a theater-style seating that connects to their team locker room.

The level also contains a softball player's lounge, a shared equipment and laundry room and a fully-conditioned indoor hitting facility that has three oversized lanes for hitting and pitching. The lanes can be pulled back to create an enclosed space that can be utilized for other types of training. There is also an umpire/referee locker room.

The second floor features coaches' offices for both softball and soccer, overlooking their respective fields. There is a shared conference room, locker room for coaches, as well as a soccer team meeting room with 44 theater-style chairs that is immediately adjacent to their locker room and nutrition area.

Outside of the facility is a ticket booth that serves as the main entry point for both fields as well as a courtyard that serves as a gathering space prior to games.
