The Department of Design offers an A.S. degree in Architecture, an A.A. and A.A.S. degree in Graphic Design and an A.A.S. degree in Interior Design. Our department is committed to equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in these dynamic fields. Through a blend of traditional and cutting-edge digital techniques, students cultivate a robust portfolio that showcases their talent and prepares them for entry-level positions within the industry or seamless transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor's degree. Our state-of-the-art facilities and experienced faculty, composed of seasoned design professionals, provide students with a high-quality education that fosters creativity, innovation, and professional development.

Architecture

This degree is for students wishing to transfer to Bachelor Degree of Architecture schools of accredited universities. The program provides the equivalent number and type of courses generally required for two years of study within a five-year curriculum. Completion of a five-year curriculum is a requirement for licensing as a professional architect.

An architectural education embodies the study of both at and engineering disciplines. The program’s goal is to develop creative and analytical skills in both these areas.

ARCH 151: Architectural Construction I Millwork Drawings

Graduates in this program will be able to:

• analyze how the history of architecture influences current design

• Discuss what non-design factors influence building design

• Explain the technical requirements of building and construction

• Demonstrate the ability to organize a building program into building space from functional and aesthetic perspectives

• Develop three-dimensional utilization abilities through abstract design exercises

• Demonstrate architectural presentation techniques in both manual and digital formats

A.A.S degree prepares students seeking to pusue entry-level positions in graphic, advertising, marketing, and installation design.

Career studies courses provide knowledge based in typography, illustration, production and process techniques related to sofware, photography and analogue skill sets. Students will developed a diverse professional portfolio consisting of studio projects based in print, digital, and environmental media including visual identity, way-finding, and packaging design.

Interior Design

Interior designers play a huge role in the world we live in. The Interior Design Program promotes awareness of the intricate relationships that exist among people, and between individuals and their environment.

Our program instills a sense of responsibility for improving society, protecting the environment, and designing for all ages and stages of life. Developing technical, creative, and interpersonal communication skills to enable students to synthesize information and analyze problems from many different perspectives is our core philosophy.

Our curriculum provides the educational requirements to sit for the NCIDQ exam and ultimately become a New Jersey Certified Interior Designer.

Graduates in this program will be able to:

• Compare and contrast the implications of the historical development of architecture, furniture and interiors

• Apply elements and principles of design

• Create interior design drawings using both manual and computer-aided drafting techniques and documents necessary for the completion of a design project

• Select appropiate interior finishes and furnishing based on performance criteria and applicable codes and standards

• Apply appropiate codes, regulations, and standards that pertain to interior environments
