Sector (UPZ) Verbenal covered a variety of land uses and several architectural typologies, therefore a very varied stratification, even in sectors that are close to each other. The majority of the land is urbanized, however it is mainly informal architecture, which generates a physical and social disengagement, from the moment in which an inequality is perceived between these sectors where there is no public space treated the image projected to the City is chaotic.

Sector (UPZ) Verbenal Design Concept (Grids)
The project is developed that understands the sector in its formal and social aspect and responds to the needs. The disintegration of the place is an obvious problem, a network is taken as a concept, which links the equipment to each other and to the sector. A relationship of the concept with the formal sector is established, this network is the result of the geometrization and reinterpretation of the road axes of the area with respect to the points where the project will intervene.

The project will be implemented in an area where certain institutional facilities are already established, but are not related to each other and lack green areas and integration with the context. This will be developed as a network that establishes relationships between facilities, through public space, land use, as a space organizer and that is also able to provide green areas for people in the sector. A project is proposed, which promotes both the development of children and young people at an intellectual and motor level, but also functions as a place of social and sports integration.

CONSERVATION STATUS OF CULTURAL INTEREST GOODS The House, corresponds to a language of the transition, very characteristic in this area of the city, where white color predominates and the iron forge that can be identified in the balcony railings. We can also see it in the window frames. The general state of the building is conditioned by the high level of water in the area, which causes leaks and moisture in various parts of the house, this affects both structurally and aesthetically, in addition to affecting all objects of symbolic value.

Following Gaitan's death, he raised among his family the idea of generating a space for the "people" in which everyone identifies and remains in the memory of the generations, that a man existed, who woke up in Colombian society, feelings of struggle and freedom, that one wanted respect for freedom and peace. Now, after 32 years of the construction of the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Cultural Center, a project by Rogelio Salmona and Jorge Venegas, which unfortunately was not completed, it is currently in ruins and is not in operation. That is why we want to build a new cultural center, which is for “the people” and that freely participate in the activities that are generated in it, in addition to its important symbolic sense that Jorge Eliécer Gaitán house museum has.
Why?
It is a cultural center in memory of the popular Leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, also paying homage to his struggle for the rights of the "people." From its original idea, raised by Gloria Gaitán, Leader daughter, the fundamental premise was the criterion that “the people are bearers of an immense spiritual wealth and that they have the necessary values to decide their own destiny and transform the country into a nation thrives and fruitful for all.”
What for?
What?
CULTURAL INTEREST GOODS INTERVENTION AND NEW BUILDING
The intention is to awaken in the people, the awareness of their own value, thus achieving the emergence of individual enthusiasm and collective mysticism, was the key to “gaitanismo“. Activities will be generated so that people who enter the cultural center or its surroundings are aware of both the historical events that marked the country and the new movements that have been generated, also the participation in cultural events, musical concerts, artistic exhibitions, theater, linking a library, workshops, among others.
