SHARING INNOVATIVE PRACTICES Project Proposal

WATER YOUTH NETWORK October, 2014

SHARING INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

Sharing Innovative Practices: Addressing the lack of concrete youth outcomes at water sector events The youth worldwide is progressively making its voice heard in the water world. However, once an event is over, there are little to none means through which the youth may continue engaged and active. The Water Youth Network (WYN) wants to change that. Our goal with this project is to emphasize and share youth innovative practices during international, regional, and local events by offering selected youth organizations and individuals a platform where they can expand their projects and collaborate with new partners.

What do we want? To maximize and optimize youth experience in water-related events. We want to effectively promote youth empowerment and show the added value of youth and their innovative practices. The project builds upon the founding pillars of the WYN: to connect; to create continuity between youth initiatives; to promote and support knowledge and encourage constant innovation; and finally, to facilitate and empower meaningful youth participation. Overall, the Sharing Innovative Practices project aims to:

a. Develop, share and disseminate knowledge; b. Support communication on particularly successful and innovative practices implemented by youth and their organizations; c. Connect local experiences to international events and vice versa; d. Follow up the future connection between the youth and promote their voice with donors, and multinational organizations.

The timeframe of the project will be of one and a half years (July 2014 - December 2015), with a possible follow up.

SHARING INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

How are we going to achieve this?

Creating regional organizing teams

Collecting innovative practices

Selecting projects in regional platforms

Presenting innovative practices at international events

Step 1: Defining strong regional organizing teams consisting of WYN members and partners in: 

North America

Latin America

Africa and MENA (Middle East & North Africa)

Europe

Asia-Pacific

Step 2: Connecting the regional organizing teams to other regional and local organizations and collecting innovative practices.

We are going to identify young individuals and organizations active in the water sector that have implemented/are implementing innovative practices. This will enable local individuals and youth organizations to communicate about their activities and connect to international partners and events.

Step 3: Selecting projects for a regional database and for events on innovative practices.

A set of regional events is going to be organized by the teams. The main goal of those events is to serve as a youth platform for knowledge sharing, development and dissemination among (mainly) young people and organizations, which are the target audience of the WYN. Each regional organizing team will be responsible for preparing the youth-driven knowledge platform (event) in their region.

Step 4: Presenting the selected innovative practices at international water-related events in which the WYN is involved, therefore, strengthening the quality and representation of youth participation.
