WPSU’s broadcast licenses are held by the Board of Trustees of The Pennsylvania State University. The WPSU community board of representatives acts as advisers on station activities, advocacy, and community outreach. WPSU-TV reaches a population of 1.9 million across 24 counties in central Pennsylvania. Ninety-six percent of WPSU viewing households receive our signal through cable or satellite; four percent, or approximately 20,000 households, receive our signal over the air. In many small rural towns WPSU is the only television channel they receive. Our primary broadcast tower is located in Clearfield, PA, with studios in State College, PA. WPSU-FM reaches 13 counties with additional listenership from three online streams. In the community, schools, and organizations, WPSU strives to create partnerships to fulfill our primary goal: extending the abundant resources of Penn State, PBS, and NPR to provide content and community engagement that reflect the interests of central Pennsylvania and beyond.

Candidate Debates Three candidates took part in the televised 60-minute U.S. Senate Democratic debate in April 2016. WPSU partnered with the McCourtney Institute for Democracy. The debate was moderated by WPSU’s Patty Satalia. WPSU also hosted a 60-minute Congressional 5th District Debate between Democratic challenger Kerith Strano Taylor and Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson in October. Both debates were simulcast on radio and streamed on wpsu.org.

WPSU created a series of 60- and 90-second, animated videos to refresh voters knowledge of the roles of key election positions. The videos were shared on wpsu.org/vote16 and social media channels and distributed to superintendents in our viewing area's school districts, and to local and Penn State news outlets.
