THE PROJECT IS LOCATED IN THE OVIDIU SQUARE OF CONSTANTA PENINSULA, ONE OF THE OLDEST PART OF THE CITY, THAT STILL HIDES UNDERNEATH THE CURRENT CITY LAYERS OF THE OLD GREEK SETTLEMENT: TOMIS.
PURPOSE -REVITALISATION OF THE PENINSULA BY INVOLVING THE COMMUNITY IN THE CITY LIFE -BRINGING CULTURAL. SOCIAL AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES BACK IN AN AREA THAT WAS ONCE THE MEETING PLACE FOR A DIVERSITY OF MINORITIES
| 05
STRATEGY
WEAKNESSES
FINDING THE STRONG POINTS AND THE QUALITIES THAT GIVES SPECIFICITY TO THE PENINSULA AND ENHANCE THEM THROUGH ARCHITECTURE, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE SHAPE OF THE PENINSULA, TOPOGRAPHY, VEGETATION, ARCHITECTURE LANGUAGE
- AMBIGUITY IN READING THE SPACE: EMPTY SPACES IN THE URBAN TISSUE - DANGEROUS AREAS - NO STRATEGIES IN TERMS OF CULTURAL AND SOCIAL REDEVELOPMENT OF THE AREA
THE CREATIVE CENTRE IT IS A VISION OF A COMMON SPACE THAT RELIES ON A CONNECTION WITH A NETWORK OF LOCAL ADMINISTRATION, ASSOCIATIONS, SCHOOLS, PROFFESIONALS, ARTISTS AND THE MOST IMPORTANT LIANT: THE COMMUNITIES.
- MULTICULTURAL AREA OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES
STRONG POINTS
- THE PRESENCE OF HUMAN SETTLEMENT SINCE 7TH CENTURY BC: TOMIS CITADEL - A CITY OF CREATIVE ARTS AND PERFORMANCES

EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY THE RUIN
ETHNIC MOSAIC COMMUNITIES THE GATE
ARTIST AREA IS AN INTERACTIVE AND INTERCHANGEABLE SPACE, DIVIDED INTO TWO: THE PUBLIC AREA (EXHIBITION AND WORKSHOPS) AND THE ARTIST AREA (ARTIST STUDIOS), THAT IS MORE PRIVATE.
THE ARCHAEOLOGY AREA IS A SIMPLE VOLUME THAT TAKES THE SHAPE OF THE BLIND WALL OF THE BUILDING NEXT TO IT. SEARCHING TO OPEN THE PERSPECTIVE TO THE RUINS AND EMPHASIZE IT, THE VOLUME IS CHAMFERED AFTER AN ANGLE ON THE CITY SIDE.
THE COMMUNITIES AREA IS THE MOST COMPLEX ONE, HOSTING ACTIVITIES THAT ENHANCE THE ETHNIC DIVERSITY. THE INTERIOR SPACES ARE STRUCTURED AROUND A SMALL PLAZA, THAT BECOMES AN OUTDOOR LIVINGROOM, THAT CONTINUES WITH A BURRIED INTERIOR GARDEN THROUGH RAMPS. THIS GIVES MOVEMENT TO THE BUILDING THAT BECOMES AN INTERACTIVE PLACE FOR PEOPLE.
EXHIBITION VOLUMES ARE PLACED DIFFUSED AND TREATED DIFFERENTLY, CREATING A SEQUENCE OF PUBLIC SPACES FOR ARTISTS TO PERFORM THEIR ART. THE ARTIST AREA IS SEPARATED BY A PROJECTION SCREEN WITH LEDS, THAT BECOMES A CANVAS VISIBLE FROM THE SEACOAST.
THE MORE PUBLIC PART, THE EXHIBITION ROOM, THE WORKSHOP ROOMS AND CLASSROOMS FOR EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY IS PLACED BETWEEN THE CITY LEVEL AND SEA LEVEL, WHILE THE MORE PRIVATE PART, THE ARCHAEOLOGY
THE BUILDING COMMUNICATES WITH THE SEA LEVEL THROUGH THE REPETITION STUDIOS AREA AND BY THE “TOWER”.

16 | THE MATERIALITY AND THE VOLUMES ARE INSPIRED BY THE CONTEXT: THE BUILDINGS FROM THE PENINSULA CREATE A COLLAGE OF FORMS AND TEXTURES. THE VOLUMES EMBEDDED IN THE COAST ARE BLENDING IN THE LANDSCAPE BECAUSE OF THE STONE FINISHING, WHILE A WHITE COMPOSITION OF VOLUMES ARISES FROM THE SQUARE LEVEL WITH TWO VERTICAL ACCENTS MADE OF CORTEN STEEL THAT ARE THE CONNECTORS OF THE CREATIVE CENTRE. THE STRUCTURE IS MADE OUT OF CONCRETE BEAMS AND PILLARS, WITH A STRONG FOUNDATION MADE FROM PILES AND A FOUNDATION SLAB, WHILE THE VOLUMES EMBEDDED IN THE GROUND HAVE A STRUCTURAL WALLS SYSTEM MADE FROM CAST-IN PLACE CONCRETE.
