‘Shabby Shabby Apartments’, 2015 International Competition , Munich, Germany Team: L. Petruskeviciute , P. Naruseviciute & Kurt Cleary ‘YELLOW SUBMARINE’ Our team has participated in the international competition “Shabby Shabby Apartments” in Munich and out of over 250 submitted projects our proposal has been picked by jury as a winner. (http://raumlabor.net/shabbyshabby-apartments/ ) We had 7 days to build the apartament ourselves. The competition invited collectives to invent apartments that everyone can afford. As living in a city center is becoming increasingly expensive competition challenges to reinvent idea of housing ground and soil and to build without using up the world’s resources. A low cost design, use-whatyou-find and infrastructure built from as little resources as possible was a key aspects to focus on. Our team came up with a lost “Yellow Submarine” concept placed on the shore of the river in English Gardens in Munich. Our proposal offered a modular design which re-purposes used bathtubs into apartament. As well as using old washing machines doors for creating windows and pvc pipes for periscope which are available for free. It is social and urban experiment creating affordable sleeping spcae in the city centre of Munich.
‘CINEMA PNEUMATICA’ Master Thesis in Advanced Architecture Part 3 Team: L. Petruskeviciute , P. Naruseviciute Cinema pneumatica” is a mobile inflatable pavilion where people instead of watching a movie in a conventional manner becomes the scene of the cinematic spectacle. There are multiple projection surfaces with different textures and material properties which allows the images to materialize in many layers. Furthermore, bodies of the visitors interact with light and projections creating constantly changing patterns and scenarios. Cinema PNEUMATICA is the project about air, light and motion in architecture. In architecture which leaves a static presence and permanence behind. We are interested in spaces and places which trigger emotions and leave room for imagination. Vacant and derelict spaces are one of those. Those spaces are in absence and absence is the moment when imagination can be expanded. Therefore, the pavilion is situated on the ‘forgotten’ land and invites to celebrate the vacant space, the moment and the unexpected temporary encounter. We seek to create a situation of enstrangement as well as to provide a soft and adventurous space to experience individual psychogeographies. Emotions here are stimulated through sound, light and kinetic movement. The design seeks to use as less as possible typical architectural heavy materials in order to create social & emotional space. Fabrics were picked in order to achieve ergonomics, mobility and lighteness factor. As easy transportation, quick construction and disassembly on site appeared to be the main issue in creation on temporary spaces. Furthermore, fabric is easy and inspiring material to work with having a limited budget, offering opportunities to play with shape, light, translucency, vibration and reflection. Cinema Pneumatica consists of two bubbles , one embedded into another. The skin of the outer bubble offers lighteness throughout the day and prjection place during the night. It is made out of polythene sheet. The inner bubble offers the dark space, where projections could happen during the day as well. It is made out of silver reflecting sheeting which gives expanded and decomposed view of the video making the whole space to feel as the projection. We also provide the instructions of making the “Cinema Pneumatica” with the budget of around £200. Atlas of Vacancy (Part1) [WOW] Workshop on Water (Part 2) Remediating Vacanat Landscapes Master Thesis in Advanced Architecture Part 1& 2 Team: L. Petruskeviciute , P. Naruseviciute
First part of master thesis introduces the problem of incredible amount of derelict and vacant land scattered around Glasgow. This problem results in many issues: such as health decile, safety, poverty and crime. At the moment Glasgow City Council has introduced the plan which allows communities to get a small amount of money to develop the eyesore land bits around their neighbourhoods into gardens, playgrounds or art spaces. However, talking from our experience, for the person who is not experienced in such ‘business’ and paperwork, the process of getting the land, funding and tools will seem too complicated. Our role is to act as a mediating agent and ease the process of temporary occupation. During the first semester we aimed to create toolkits and a database which would allow people to see the derelict spaces, existing similar projects and cheap or free of charge materials at one glance. During the next half a year we are using this database for our design purposes. We were in search of affordable production and workspaces which would allow people to remain in the city and start or continue their activities here. We created the school which offers experimental design techniques in order to inhabit vacant landscapes. However, temporary architecture we offer is a temporary solution and testing ground for permanent projects.

Architecture Festival, Kaunas, Lithuania Team: L. Petruskeviciute & P. Naruseviciute INDEPENDANCE COURTYARD/ GATE TO TEMPORARY SPACES Situated in a prominent location on the Independence square building is lack of welcoming feeling, energy and youth. Thus, our goal is not to do a major make up as we do not think that facial appearance could heal it, we offering an idea of creating a courtyard with serious activities for different age of people. Also we offer a prototype of live/work model housing. Having a working space in your accommodation reduces travelling cost, pollution and necessity for car. Also having a working space and being surrounded by existing business encourages new entrepreneurship to appear. And new entrepreneurship is newbusiness and fresh new ideas for the city.
