FACTS:
• Bees pollinate 75% of fruits, nuts, & vegetables • Native bees pollinate over 100 crops in NA • Native pollinators are the most effective pollinators of native crops such as tomatoes, pumpkins, cherries, blueberries, & cranberries
• Provide POLLEN & NECTAR sources from April through September • Follow nature’s example—provide redundant floral resources for each pollinator • Plant for diversity—include 20 or more appropriate plant species • Plant a single species of flowers in clumps of 3 feet or greater • Site pollinator gardens near existing habitat patches • Site in mostly open, sunny locations • Locate near potential or provide nesting sites within 100 feet of pollinator plants • Include native bunch grasses, spring ephemerals, trees, and shrubs • Avoid pesticides and “double” flower hybrids • Support the full life-cycle of pollinators
