ABOUT ME...

I got my degree in Architecture at the Universidad de Los Andes, BogotรกColombia in the year 2012. In the five years of my bachelor studies I developed projects from the urban scale to the housing and constructive scale. But Architecture is not my only interest; I also studied one year and a half of Anthropology at the same university, and having a social and cultural perspective and knowledge of the world made me realize the importance of our discipline in our daily life, due to the strong relation that we have with the architecture and the city since our first day of life until the last one, being the architecture and its elements the most important physical connectors between us and the surrounding environment, where our development as individuals and communities take place. After I got my degree, I started working with an architectural studio in Bogotรก called Alto Arquitectura y Planeaciรณn, in which I develop Interior design and furniture design for three different projects: two restaurants and the renewal of an apartment. Also i developed some activities as building site manager of one of the restaurants and the apartment. I just got my Master of Science degree in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano university. In this Master I developed multi scale projects, focused on sustainability, not only in terms of environment, but also in terms of economic and social sustainability. For my thesis project, I developed an Agricultural Park in the City of Piacenza, taking into account new sustainable theories for the development of the cities as Ecological Urbanism, and the idea of Cultural and Rural heritage to achive social sustainability and identity through architectural and landscape projects. Besides architecture, I have other interests such as art (potery and watercolor design), sports, music and literature. I consider myself a good and hard worker. I'm very responsable and punctual with the duties given to me. I like the team work and learn from others, as well as to share my knowledge and experience with others. 2

El proyecto para la biblioteca publica “Gabriel García Márquez” pretende convertirse en un punto de recogimiento y estudio dentro de una ciudad carente de espacio publico de calidad para la población cartagenera. Con la idea de dignificar y recuperar el espacio publico existente planteamos un eje que conecte la torre del reloj, con el Castillo de san Felipe, y que a lo largo de este trayecto se encuentre la biblioteca como uno de los espacio públicos representativos del eje y por lo tanto de la ciudad. Una de las estrategias que toamos para dignificar y regenerar ese espacio, fue aumentar la sección del acerado en el costado sur de la calle, aprovechando la sombra que se proyecta en gran parte del día. Esto nos permite crear un espacio no solo de circulación sino de estancia en el cual el peatón tome protagonismo sobre el vehiculo.

En relación a nuestra propuesta urbana, nuestro proyecto pretende ser una extensión del espacio publico, generando recorridos a través de una diagonal que determina diferentes espacio, que van de los mas publico a lo mas privado del edificio. En alusión a la tipología arquitectónica de patio de la ciudad, planteamos la fragmentación del “claustro”, lo que nos permite generar dos espacios libres con diferentes condiciones: el espacio externo se convierte en una plaza con características publicas, mientras que al interior del proyecto se desarrolla un patio que sirve a las actividades del volumen principal del programa. Complementando al programa se ubica en la parte posterior del terreno, un volumen en donde se han ubicado todos los servicios y elementos del programa que respalden y apoyen al desarrollo de la biblioteca. este volumen a su vez intenta guardar la escala urbana y ayuda a manMAGDALENA MERCHAN GENIZ + LAURA tener un homogeneidad de la ciudad.

Our intention is to create a space where the inhabitants can have a better lifestyle and quality of their public life, giving the opportunity to develop a better cummunity life. Changing the urban profiles of the most important streets we expect to have a better development of the commercial activities of the area. The main entrance to the project is over one of these main streets, allowing an easy access from any point of the city, having a proposal for public space as a gate between the city and the project, proposed specially to supply the necessities of public life and space for the housing projects that surround the area.

In an urban scale, this Public Library will complete the system of public libraries in the city called "Biblio-Red". In the location map of the public libraries plan in Bogotรก, we can see that the sector in which I developed the project doesn't have any educational facility of this kind, making this the main reason why of the project. The architectonical program of the building is: 1.Public Library 2. Cultural Center (workshops for the community, exposition area) 3. Theatre and auditorium By the other hand, the topography of the site id very complicated, and as a result the building is burry, following this characteristics

This is my Urban Proposal for my Thesis for my Bachellor degree. The project, besides the urban intervention, is also a proposal of a Cultural Center for the inhabitants of the sector. This project take place in one of the illegal neighborhood at the south of Bogotรก city, called "Virrey del Sur". For the urban intervention was necessary to intervene another neighborhood close to the previous one called "Chuniza". The urban intervention wants to bring together these two areas of the city through the creation and renewal of public space, creating a big park in which we can find also activities related with education and sports. In that way we can activate the zone with different urban activites. It was important also to have into account the future infrastructure development of the city in this area with the Avenues Usminia and Villavicencio.

The development of the project and it's result is totally oposite to the normal development of Shanghai, due to instead of proposing a normal skyscraper, we propose an horizontal one, in which a mix of activities takes place, showing the idea of an Open Minded Space. We decide to develop the Cultural part of the Building in an architectonical scale. This Cultural center is compose by a Theatre, workshops, cultural offices, a youth center, an art gallery and exposition areas and a Public Library at the top of the building. All the circulation inside the building works arround a Patio that we propose in order to develop our Open Minded Spaces idea, which consist in those spaces where you are allow to make more than one activity without limitation and that encrease the feeling of community in the society.

Our main aim in to connect these two areas (agricultural and urban) without modify the dynamics in the agricultural area, through a green corridor, having along it different urban elements as public squares, parks, bullevards, etc. To achive this, we did an analysis of the site, taking into account the uses and urban morphology of the sector (architectural typologies).We propose to continue the city growth with a degrade sense, playing with densities, and uses as educational and commerce

PIACENZA AGRICULTURAL PARK

Piacenza is located in the border between Lombardia and Emilia Romagna regions, limited by Rivers Po and Trebbia. Due to its urban growth and morphology, the city developed towards south, letting the north part “empty”, being this the Agricultural area of the city. The highway, as a perimeter of the city, is also the main barrier that keeps the city from having a direct relation with the river Po’ and the agricultural fields. TARGETS 1. PIACENZA AGRICULTURAL PARK

The main purpose of the project is to recover and reinforce the relation that the River Po and the agricultural area used to have earlier in the 30’s, before the industrialization process that the city suffered after W.W.II. This relation is not only a physical connection, but also a connection in terms of culture and social identity, which will permit to increase the belonging sense and feeling of the citizens towards the natural resources and agricultural landscape. Achieving this, it will have an impact not only in an urban scale, but also regional and national, creating, perhaps in the future, a network linking all the main natural-rural landscapes, guarantying its conservation for the future generations. The sustainable part of the project will be not only focus in a passive design, with recycle and adequate materials for the natural environment of the architectonical element, but also will take the meaning of “sustainable” in a social and cultural way, that will affect also the economical perspectives of the city.
