Kintsugi is a longstanding Japanese art form of repairing broken pottery by mending the breakage with lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver or platinum. I was introduced to this method by my dear friend in a period of my life when I was broken, full of shame and feeling valueless. Being told about this visually stunning concept of beauty in brokenness was the key in allowing myself to be mended, and made whole once again.
I’m convinced that friends are where God lies, and I’ve never looked at myself the same way after that life-giving conversation. I was shown my golden seams and was told that they were the reason I was beautiful, complex and full of value. I will forever be grateful to my friend for tucking me under her wing through a difficult season and pointing me to the truth. Truth about love, acceptance and driving out shame.

Laurel-Dawn graduated from Auburn University with a BFA in graphic design with a strong focus in fine art. She has been working in the design field for over 10 years and painting in the margins of her chaotic and beautiful life as a wife and mother. In 2020, Laurel-Dawn took the leap into being a fine artist, full time.
Laurel-Dawn has always drawn inspiration from the lines made from her Creator; the natural lines of a rigid mountainside, or the dramatic curves seen in leaves and flower petals. She strives to glorify beauty that already exists from her small corner of the world; embracing the delicate, yet messy process of being an artist.
Laurel-Dawn currently resides in Homewood, Alabama with her husband and two boys.
