Body shapes By Lauren Wilson

Apple body shape • Here are other characteristics typical of an Apple shape: • You carry weight around your mid-section and chest (eg. big bust, protruding tummy). • Your rib cage and back appear somewhat wide • You may have wide or/and fleshy shoulders

Trim the Waist Wear clothes in a way that makes your mid-section narrower. This will help you achieve a proportional body shape and visually take 10 pounds off your figure. Adding interest to your shoulders and neckline, along with adding volume to your hips help.

Flaunt Your Best Assets This helps draw attention away • You probably have fabulous legs and boobs (you may be well endowed) • Your waistline is undefined or has little waist definition • Your hips may be narrow (similar to Inverted Triangle, but your midsection is fuller/wider) • You have slim limbs (specifically arms)

from the midsection and give the spotlight to your best parts, and in most Apple body shape cases that's your bust and/or legs.

Rectangle body shape If you have a Rectangle body shape then it means that your silhouette is fairly straight up and down with a slight masculine look. You're similar to an Hourglass but without the killer waist. It's also a common body figure type for women who age, given birth (skin around the waist stretches) or gained weight. typical of a Rectangle Here are the characteristics body shape: • Your bust and hips are approximately at the same width • You have little or no waist definition • Your waist measures from 1" to 8" smaller than the bust • If you gain weight, typically, the pounds would distribute evenly throughout your body frame http://www.bodyshapefashionadvice.com/rectangle.php

About the Rectangle body shape Rectangle ladies are fairly straight up and down though don’t always have the boyish chest to match. Many women would kill for your shape; there’s no main area you want to minimise so you can get away with more things than most. However you may crave more curves – an illusion easily created with the right clothing. Bring out your best: A structured coat that cinches in with a belt will make you look more curvy. If you’ve a small bust you can get away with tricky to wear high-necked tops. Best to avoid: Low rise jeans and trousers can make your torso

Pear body shape About the Pear body shape If you are a bottom-heavy beauty and are bigger around the hips, bottom or thighs than you are up top then, like the majority of women, you are a Pear! You’ve probably also got a fairly flat stomach you lucky thing. Work that womanly figure by adding more shape and structure above the waist. Bring out your best: Balance out your curvy bottom half with bold bright tops or tops with large collars, lapels or sleeves.

Best to avoid: Tube, pencil and fishtail skirts, especially tight-fitting ones will only emphasise your hips and behind. http://www.bodyshapefashionadvice.com/pear.php

Hourglass body shape About the Hourglass body shape Curvy hourglass girls go in at the middle, often with a fuller bust and bottom to contrast with the smaller waist. You’re blessed with a very sexy shape so you need to learn not to drown it in too-baggy clothes but also not go too overtly sexy either - unless that’s the look you’re going for! Bring out your best: Wrap dresses, waist-cinching belts and flared or wide leg jeans will work wonders. Not necessarily all at once. Best to avoid: Shapeless baggy jumpers will hide your wonderful waist. Unless you add that magic belt of course! http://www.bodyshapefashionadvice.com/rectangle.php

Colour theory

Colour block

Colour block fashion is one of the hottest new trends for the season. It combines the use of two or more blocks of colour in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid colour next to each other. It can include monotone, bright colours, muted colours, contrasting and complimentary colours. Clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories can all feature colour block designs or can make up different blocks of colour to be put together for a colour block outfit.

Complementary colours Complementary colour that are opposite each other on the colour wheel are considered to be complementary colours (example: red and green). The high contrast of complementary colours creates a vibrant look especially when used at full capacity. This colour scheme must be managed well so it is not vibrating.

Triadic

Triad A triadic colour scheme uses colours that are evenly spaced around the colour wheel. Triadic colour harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated forms of your types. Because of their placement on the colour wheel, when paired together, triadic colour combinations tend to be very vibrant. To use a triadic harmony successfully, the colours should be carefully balanced - let one colour dominate and use the two others for accent.

Analogous Colours Analogous colour scheme Analogous colour schemes use colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs. Analogous colour schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye. Make sure you have enough contrast when choosing an analogous colour scheme. Choose one colour to dominate, a second to support. The third colour is used (along with black, white or grey) as an accent.

monochromatic Monochromatic in fashion terms is wearing an outfit comprised of only one colour; it can be of the same shade or different shades, the idea is to keep the shades in the same hue. For example using dark blue, sky and blue at the same time. It can be bright colours, dark colours, it can even be nude colours. It all depends on what colour you choose. There are no limits. When done properly a monochromatic outfit can look stylish.

Mixing textures By Lauren Wilson

Vary the scale of the patterns Wearing medium/large with small patterns create balance. However mixing large patterns can empower your outfit and make you look wider combining two or more small prints on the other hand make your overall appearance busy.

Same color family Your patterns should share the same colour scheme. Or a print that has at least one of the colours of the other print.

Break it up a bit Give your wardrobe a rest by breaking your outfit up with a basic, solid colour. This makes your clothing look more balanced and modern. For example use Basic wide belts, jackets and hosiery are great for this.

Don’t go too matchy-matchy Similar polka dot patterns on head and toe make it look like you’re overly confined to fashion rules. As if your outfit is too wellthought and predictable. It just isn't exciting to look at. Add a few surprises by wearing different types of prints and textures.

Evaluation I have chosen soft punk SS15/16 as my future trend as I was inspired by the colours as I love the soft pastels . My future trend really fits in well with hippy style look. This is why I think students will fit in well because many high street clothing brands such as Topshop sell a wide range of different clothing , especially when it comes into spring/summer they have a extensive variety of outfits for festivals and for part of my shoot I done a ‘festival look’. For my photo shoot I created a commercial look using a model that resembles a typical student look. For the makeup for my chosen trend I have chosen pastel colours makeup for my soft pop theme. I also used a natural look as back in 1960’s the hippies hardly wore makeup only paint on there face so in my styled shoot I kept the natural look on my model and let her clothes represent soft pop rather than her makeup. Also for my models hair I used a curling wand to reflex natural looking waves and used big hair bands and head scarves to give a hippie affect. The location I used was the studio, I chosen the studio as I wanted to use the project to reflex backgrounds behind my model. For example a well know festival field called Glastonbury. When doing this I came across a problem because it was reflexing on my models garments so we decided to give outside a go on a field, the outcome of these pictures are great because I used a tool called overlay on Photoshop to fade my model into my backgrounds. The accessories I used for my shoot was sunglasses and hair pieces and jewellery to give my trend a more hippie look. I chosen Love magazine for my magazine because it is a high end fashion magazine. I thought this magazine was best suited for my future trend as they are never boring and plain so my shoot would fit in well throughout their magazine. Their target audience is also good for my future trend. For my planning and preparation I done a lot of research into the future trend soft punk .I collected a range of different pictures for my mood board this helped me decide on how I wanted my shoot to look it was really helpful doing this. At home I got creative and messed around with bright makeup to re create a eye makeup picture I seen on Pinterest so I put my own twist on it. When it came to producing my shoot I wanted my model face to be plain because I found that not many hippies wore makeup so I kept it soft. As part of my planning I researched into the principle of styling and created styling boards My shoot was very successful I was pleased with my overall outcome. My model was great to work with witch made it a ease. One thing that didn’t turn out very well was projecting backgrounds onto the screen as it reflexed on my models clothes and I didn’t like the general look. Doing a practice run would of helped me to realise this but without knowing this I wouldn’t of went outside to take some pictures for my ‘festival look’ I would of just Photoshop backgrounds behind her and that would look fake whereas outside fitted in well. Also if I could of done anything different I would of got me and my model to go to a nicer field instead of using outside the college. Planning for this shoot help me a lot as without planning and collecting images I wouldn’t of chosen my clothes I got my model to wear and they was the main part of my shoot. It also helped with the hair and makeup as I noticed most soft punk/hippies look had wavy hair with accessories in so I asked my model to curl her hair and I brought in the accessories I wanted for my shoot. The makeup I left plain for my model but at home on myself I went crazy with soft pastels colours and created a ‘soft op/hippie’ makeup look. Overall I loved doing this shoot everything went to plan and I wouldn’t of done anything different!
