I have decided to draw my inspiration from the local landscapes of the United Kingdom. The shapes created by the rolling hills and craggy mountin tops will hopefully influence some interesting design lines. The range of colours avalible is also great for creating both male and female colourways, mutedbrowns, greens and greys with pops of vibrant yellows and purples. LILAC SACHET 14-2710 TCX

Inspiration. As this is a bespoke project I wanted to draw inspiration from something of equal quality. The equestrian world is full of beautifully made, hand crafted and luxury items. From this I have chosen to look at leather saddlery and bridle work, focusing especially on vintage side saddles. The quality of the craftsmanship within saddlery is clear, the leather being especially important. Stitching and fixtures on bridle work are really interesting details that could work really well with footwear. The curves and shapes of saddles, and especially side saddles, are very elegant and flowing. I think this is something that will help dictate some of the lines in my designs. The highly polished off side (right side) of a side saddle is a really highly polished surface, this effect is something that might work well with my designs. The metal fixtures on bridles and saddles are also made a feature of which will be something I want to use for my designs. Also my client is part of the equestrian world which I think would be a nice gesture to have shoes inspired by what he is interested in.
Final design. Final CAD render of my final design. I really like the combination of the polished leather and the soft suede, I think that combination captures perfectly the essence of a side saddle. The sweeping lines keep the style classy, which was my main aim with designing for this client. By keeping the design free from ‘fuss’ I think it has a clean, elegant modern feel, while definitely remaining in that classic dress shoe bracket.
