ANIMALS FOR HUMAN WELLNESS Winter 2012, Spring 2013

Animals for Human Wellness is a unique health and wellness facility that promotes human health and wellbeing through interaction with animals. The 36,000 square foot building is divided into two wings, each with a double-height ceiling “courtyard lobby” (pictured left) that serves the surrounding spaces. Nature was a significant influence throughout the course of this project, not only because it reiterates the animal theme, but because it is proven to have a positive impact on human health and wellbeing.

MAGNOLIA FLOWERS Fall 2011



Magnolia Flowers is a modern flower shop designed for

identity. The shop’s monochromatic, sleek interior is intended

GARDEN RETREAT Winter 2009 The Garden Retreat includes numerous structures, from a villa to a walled garden to an amphitheater, all nestled within a waterfront hillside. In designing the villa (pictured left), I maximized the small square footage by creating an open concept living and dining space and a lofted bedroom. Outdoor space facing the magniďŹ cent waterfront views was developed on both oors, with a private courtyard in back. The house follows the grade of the land, stepping down and wrapping around the hillside so indoor and outdoor space may become one.

the seat pan and back are slightly curved for comfort biscuit joints securly join the legs and armrests, and add an aesthetic detail the horizontal supports are joined to the legs using a mortise and tenon joint the seat pan is 17”x17”, making the chair suitable for different adult users

the seat pan is 16.5” above the fl oor, leaving enough space to comfortably place one’s feet on the fl oor (without the edge of the seat jutting into the back of the user’s leg)


CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF SUSTAINABILITY Winter 2010

This project combined a children’s museum and family center in a historic armory building. I chose to convert the existing gymnasium into a double ceiling height exhibition space and neighboring theater. The surrounding rooms were transformed into classrooms, meeting rooms, a cafe, and additional flexible space. Organization, materiality and scale were key in creating a welcoming atmosphere that was fun, educational, and appropriate for both children and adults.

SALEM CIVIC CENTER Fall 2010 The Salem Civic Center project involved assessing the interior of the building as a whole, as well looking in-depth at the Public Works department.. In my design, I have enclosed the central open-air atrium to create a more usable space, as well as relocated the stairs and elevator, updated interior finishes, and reorganized the departments in a more logical manner. Within the Public Works department, I focused on improving wayfinding, better utilizing natural light, and reorganizing offices and workstations based on roles and relationships.

CHAPMAN HALL Spring 2011 Chapman Hall is a historic University of Oregon building that houses the school’s Honors College. Tasked with redesigning the exclusive third floor, I aimed to retain the building’s historic dignity while introducing modern touches and technology to serve the needs of today’s student. Interaction between faculty and students, who reside on either end of the building, was addressed by including ample alcoves and seating spaces along the wide, central corridor.
