The Voice of Opportunity
DeafLink Services: Interpreting Services - DeafLink has both on-staff and freelance ASL/ SEE/Tactile interpreters who assist communication between Deaf or hard of hearing clients and hearing people. Whether it be a doctor’s appointment, educational environment, legal appointment, church gathering, or employee meeting (to name a few), we have interpreters available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
YouTube Informational Videos DeafLink has recently added videos in ASL (American Sign Language) for Deaf consumers to view on YouTube. The videos/clips are about pertinent topics to Deaf individuals, and are performed in ASL as well as close captioned. You can get to them by clicking on the link of the League's website.
Information and Referral - I&R services provide individuals, organizations, and businesses with the information they need regarding disability related rights, options, and issues. Community Education - We strive to educate local businesses and companies about the culture and needs of Deaf individuals in order to better bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf communities. VRI - At DeafLink, we have the newest technology in Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). We use video or web cameras and telephone lines to provide sign language interpreting through an offsite interpreter. This can be an economical alternative to traidtional interpretive services and is particularly beneficial in emergency situations that would require long distance travel and short interpreting sessions. Advocacy - DeafLink offers advice and assistance to consumers and businesses regarding the effective communication provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Sign Language Courses - Several times a year, DeafLink teaches a Sign Language course for those in the community wishing to learn. We offer basic and advanced courses. Professional Development Workshops - One of our newest goals is to provide more workshops for working interpreters. DeafLink wishes to provide opportunities for local interpreters and professionals to gain knowledge and development skills relating to Deaf culture and the interpreting profession as well as earn CEUs. Case Coordination - DeafLink has a Case Manager who is able to help individuals and consumers with their needs. Whether it is filling out applications, help with job interviews, looking for apartments, referral to available resources and even advocacy – the Case Manager is here to help.
