Sound and Vision

Hello lovely creative, As part of the final module in my second year I am researching into why people write, what is the purpose and can I link it to my own work? I want to visualise written imagery that I collect. I would be eternally grateful if you fill out this questionnaire for me the best that you can. Be as personal as you can, I promise to treasure it. Thank you. Do you write your own lyrics? Can you describe your process? I don’t know what my writing is, definitely not lyrics. I find I write best when I have a definitive issue or problem to write about. I mostly write late at night at home, whilst sat in a coffee shop somewhere with creative people around me (Me and my friend Joe can sit for hours and not talk, just drink coffee and write). I also write well on the bus, inside my own head with nothing to do but read or think. What serves as your source of inspiration/influence? Where do you find your inspiration? What inspires you to write? I see my writing change depending on who I’m listening to or reading at the time, whilst listening to Bob Dylan and his words on Woody Guthrie, I found my writing took on the same pace as his. My main inspiration is my own head, as an over thinker and a worrier. I tend to work out what I’m feeling through writing, which is probably why I write best when I can’t sleep at night. Who do you look to? List artists you admire: Words: Bob Dylan Neil Young Joe Lyons Regina Spektor Pink Floyd

Visual: Lizzy Stewart Kaye Blegvad Francis Bacon

Where do you work best? Do you need a certain surrounding to create? I work best whilst on my own, I want to go to somewhere scenic and create but I don’t think I would be able to. Some people find it easier to observe others and speculate and write about them. I think because my writing has always been very personal it doesn’t matter necessarily where I am, because I am always with my head. Why do you write? What purpose does it serve to you as a creative? To organise my thoughts, I’ve toyed with the idea of poetry readings and recording and giving them to someone to transform them into lyrics. Part of my process is writing as I think, which means there is very rarely a structure, just a continuous spew of thought patterns described in a way so people can understand them. Please can you give me something to illustrate that you've already written? (It can be anything)

Excitement in her bones as every Joint is creating sparks. Moving away from all she knew, Opening up the cracks in her skull, Like tectonic plates, the lava is bubbling over. Fill her cup and watch it floweth over as she blooms. Willingly she arms herself with all she needs and more. Wings glittering with anticipation like morning dew, Bathing in the new dawn. A beautiful collaboration of minds as the Starling greets the Wren. The Birds. The Birds.

Thank you, please send these back to me as soon as you can. Lauren x
