LAUREN HALVORSON P hotography^
! o l l e H Welcome! About me! HELLO!
Here’s a little about me, Lauren, the girl behind the camera... I grew up on a potato farm in northern Maine. I worked at Disney World as Mickey Mouse and loved every second of it (So, please forgive me if I overuse the adjective “magical”). I am obsessed with the color orange. The way to my heart is through dark chocolate. (Bonus points for FLIPZ dark chocolate covered pretzels). My perfect day is one spent digging through antique shops to find the perfect hidden treasures. I most often end up with old windows and doors. You’d be amazed at the way you can re-purpose these two things! I LOVE interior design, styling, fashion and most of all: weddings!
Ok, enough about me, now let’s talk about us ^
I want our experience together to be nothing short of incredible. Your wedding day is the most important day of your life and I want you to enjoy it and trust me to capture all of the moments you will remember, as well as the ones you will miss. I want you to laugh, cry and most importantly LOVE the images I will create for you to enjoy for the rest of your life. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you, and hearing all about each and every detail that you’ve planned for your upcoming day. Please feel free to email me at LKHphotography@live.com for ANYTHING you need throughout this process, and I’ll be sure to help! If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, let’s grab coffee and brainstorm together! I’m happy to help in any way possible!

Six Tips to a Kick-Butt engagement session! 1. Location, location, location!
Although meaningful settings are always good, don’t be afraid to think outside the box. I love shooting in places that have interesting elements, color and textures. Like a used bookstore, an industrial area, a carnival, an art museum, a train station, or an open field. Make sure it’s a location that suits your style and personalities and has a variety of great spots to choose from!
2. Clothes can make it-or break it!
If you are unsure about what to wear or you don’t have a stylish wardrobe, consider consulting with a stylist, or with ME! Don’t forget to bring accessories like shoes, hats, scarves, belts and jewelry too. Go bold and wear lots of color, stripes or polka dots! These are the sessions that really stand out and catch attention. Don’t be afraid to layer different colors, textures and patterns, and it’s ok if it’s not something you’d wear every single day – use this special occasion to dress a little funky and have fun with it!
3. Take advantage of your hair and makeup trials!
Get both hair and makeup done by a pro and you’ll not only look amazing, but the extra confidence will shine through. If you are hiring a makeup artist or hair stylist for the wedding, they will likely want to do a practice run, and the day of your engagement photos would be a great try out.
4. P lay it up!
Get creative! Come up with themes that spark your interest or are in some way special to your relationship. It could be anything from your favorite movies, sports or the fact that you bonded over your love for dogs to your obsession with camping. Send me ideas, and I’ll help plan a custom Engagement Session that is PERSONAL and unique!
5. Pay attention to the details!
Little details can add that extra sense of awe to a photo. They can be anything like signs, antique doors, windows, picnic baskets or colorful quilts! Bird cages, vintage suitcases and antique trucks are totally AWESOME too! Think outside of the box, and see what you can dream up. If you can dream it, we can do it!
6. Let your love shine!
Be candid. Have fun together. Engagement sessions should really be seen as a fun day out with your loved one with a photographer there to capture the moment. It’s the candid moments that turn out the best – so don’t be afraid to show affection, laugh and jump for joy! Don’t stress about looking at the camera all the time, the most natural moments happen when you are looking at each other, not at the camera!
EVERYBODY LOVES A
P hoto Booth!
What it is:
We call our booth the OH-SO-FUN Photo Booth because it really is OHHHHHHHH SOOOOOOO FUN! Grab a silly hat. Strike a pose. Have a BLAST! Not sure what to do? There’s always a photographer in the booth, helping guide the silliness and encouraging awesomely fun, hilarious photos of you and your guests. Our booth is a little different than most typical booths. There’s no printer on site and it’s not “automatic.” The photographer in the booth is shooting with a professional DSLR camera to capture all the action in high res! Take that shot of Grandma with a mustache and blow it up HUGE for your next big family get together! With high res images you can create all kinds of fun stuff with your booth photos, including prints, albums and photo gifts. Your wedding day only happens once, so LIVE IT UP! Your guests will love our booth, and so will YOU!
When it’s up:
The OH-SO-FUN Photo Booth is usually set up during the dinner service and is open throughout the time we’re scheduled to be at your reception! During the usual wedding “events,” like the cake cutting, first dance, etc. we put up a sign that says “be right back!” so that you can still have two photographers covering the most important parts of your reception! Booth tear-down starts fifteen minutes before we are scheduled to leave.
What you get:
All your photo booth photos go up into their own gallery on your wedding proofing site along with the rest of your high resolution wedding images. Your guests will be able to get into the gallery by using the link we provide you that you can share with them all! Prints and digital files can be ordered directly through the gallery or you can surprise them by making prints to send in your thank you cards using your high res photo CD.

FIRST LOOK: Ditch Outdated Traditions!
Seeing each other before the wedding doesn’t bring bad luck, it brings great photos!
Waaaaaaay back in the days of per-arranged marriages – when marriage was a business deal between families – brides and grooms were never allowed to see (or even meet) each other before the wedding. This was so the groom wouldn’t have time to back out of the wedding if he happened to find the bride unattractive or unappealing. Over the years, the tradition of the “bride in hiding” changed into a superstition and seeing each other before the wedding was considered to be “bad luck”. Nowadays though, this “tradition” is being kicked to the curb by modern, photo-lovin’ brides and grooms everywhere.
How it works:
The bride and groom get ready separately, just like “normal.” When both are dressed and ready, we take the groom to a place with great light and get ready to snap away! The bride is sent in and the groom turns to see her in all her beauty. At that moment, you will completely forget we’re there, but we’ll be capturing every smile, every tear, every laugh and every kiss. Chances are, the first look photos will end up being some of your favorites from the entire day! Bad luck? That’s soooooooooo 19th century!
n io s s e s om o r g d n a e id r The “First Look” b
So . .w hy do it? ^Enjoy the moment! If you wait to see each other when you walk down the aisle, you never know what will happen. Uncle
Bob might jump out right in front of you to take a photo and block your groom from seeing you entirely, or the flower girl might be crying hysterically and taking all attention away from you. If it does go as planned, when you get there you will be with your father, and your groom will be standing next to a minister or officiant with a microphone in his face and there will be hundreds of people staring at you, so you are likely to get a very subdued reaction from him at best. He can’t tell you how gorgeous you are or spin you around and look at every angle of your dress. He can’t notice the little details like your grandma’s necklace or your beautiful bouquet. A first look gives you a moment with no one but the two of you, to hug, to kiss, to spin around and take in all the details of how gorgeous you look and how handsome he cleaned up to be as well! You will have a few moments of privacy (that you probably won’t get at any other point in the day) to just enjoy each other and take a moment to breathe in the magic of your wedding day. These images are one of a kind, and you can’t get anything like it when coming down the aisle. I promise, it will still take his breath away when he realized you are walking down the aisle towards him to become his WIFE. No sneak preview of you can take away from that – only make it all the better!
^Look your BEST! No matter what the season, weather can often be less than ideal for looking your best. In the winter,
your nose runs and cheeks get red. In the summer, you get sweaty and shiny. Doing a first look means your photos are done IMMEDIATELY after hair and makeup – not after hours in the summer heat through travel, and the entire length of your ceremony. This means everyone will be energetic, excited and looking their absolute best for photos! (No runny noses or heat stroke in THESE photos!)
^Get Amazing P hotos! If you wait until the ceremony to see each other, we’ll have no choice but to do all your portraits
after the wedding. This is no problem if you’re doing a morning or early afternoon wedding, but if it will be dark after your ceremony, our options for creative portraits are limited to say the least. If you want an evening wedding, the ONLY way to go is to have a first look!
^Get to your reception! After the ceremony, most of your guests will head over to the cocktail hour. You’ll be excited and
ready to go see everyone and don’t want to keep them waiting for hours while you take pictures. Surprise your guests by walking into the cocktail hour WITH them! It’s the one day of your life when all the people you love will be in the same place, so don’t miss a precious minute of that incredible time with them! Getting all the photos done before the ceremony, when there’s no rush and nobody waiting for you is 150% less stressful! WE PROMISE!
PICTURES! pictures! PICTURES! High Resolution Digital Files
Want to make your own prints? GO FOR IT! Want to upload your favorites to Facebook? Tag away! When you purchase high resolution digital files of your wedding images you will get a custom Lauren Halvorson Photography flash drive with ALL of your fully edited, high resolution images. Why is this important? We want you to have ALL of your photos (not just the photos you can afford to print!) and we want you to share your photos with family and friends around the world, so they can rejoice in your happiness!
Digital File FAQs:
Q: Can we really make prints anywhere we want? A: Absolutely! We’ll even give you a list of our favorite labs if you want, local and online! Q: Can we still order prints from you? A: Of course! We use an awesome professional lab that produces AMAZING prints! If you’d like to leave the printing up to us, just let us know! Q:Are the photos on my flash drive going to be edited? A: You Betcha! All the photos you receive will be beautifully edited and ready to print! They are NOT straight out of the camera files. What you see in your gallery is what you will get on your flash Drive!
Q: Why do you use a flash drive instead of a DVD or CD? A: We take WAY more pictures than most photographers, and we believe you should see every single one of them. Flash drives hold way
more files than a CD or DVD, and are far less likely to get damaged or scratched. We believe our clients deserve nothing but the best and flash drives are the best way to protect your images and make them easy to transport!
Q: Does this mean that I own the copyright for my photos? A: Not exactly. What we give you is permission to print your photos anywhere. Any time. Lauren Halvorson Photography retains the copyright
to all photos. Your permissions allow you to print, but do not include permission to sell, modify or enter your photos into any contests without our written consent. Let us know if you have any more copyright questions!

Tips and Tricks for GREAT photos! ^ Allow enough time for photos!
are so many beautiful options (they have beautiful satin padded ones at home goods, and lots of unique custom options on Etsy as well). Your dress will look way more beautiful on a pretty hanger, rather than a clunky ugly one.
We require a minimum of ninety minutes for formal photos (family, wedding party, bride and groom, and individuals) if possible, allow extra time up to two or two and a half hours! The longer we have for creative portraits, the more stunning your images will be! You invested your money in us – so allocate enough time for us to do the best we can possibly do!
^ Choose mis-matched bridesmaid dresses!
We understand that tradition says to put every girl in the exact same dress... that’s old school! Pick a color, or color family and let the girls pick their dresses. Every girl is unique, and their dresses should compliment their figure, personality and taste! You get the final say of course, but different dresses photograph beautifully!
^Know
daylight hours on your big day, and plan accordingly! It’s no secret that the best images are those taken in natural light. We are natural light photographers, so make sure there is at least two hours of daylight left for us to do your portraits. Later in the year, it’s dark as early as 5pm. If there’s not enough daylight for your photos, you’ll be forced to do a first look – so if not seeing each other until the ceremony is something that’s important to you, then make sure you have an early wedding so we have lots of daylight to work with after the ceremony!
^ Enjoy your first kiss!
You’re married, it’s ok to kiss in front of your parents now! None of this super fast Peck stuff... KISS YOUR BRIDE for five, ten, even FIFTEEN seconds! Kiss her twice, three times. Whatever you want. Give a fist pump or a jump for joy after. The first kiss is one of the best photo ops, so give us something great to photograph! Don’t be shy!
^ Make sure the room you get ready in is CLEAN and has
^ INVEST in your details!
LOTS of natural light!
Pretty straws rather than plastic ones, unique napkins, home made signs, details details details! All of the weddings you see in magazines, blogs, etc. are featured because of their gorgeous details! Need inspiration? Check blogs like Style Me Pretty, Green Wedding Shoes and Ruffled Blog. They have some of the BEST stylish weddings out there, and you’re sure to get inspired beyond belief. If that’s not enough – try Pinterest and Etsy. You’re sure to get a million ideas there!
Easier said than done, we know... but this is crucial for good photos. We’ve walked into many a tornado zone of lipstick and dress bags, but make sure you have a separate room for your bridesmaids to take over and keep the room you are getting dressed and ready in neat and tidy so that your photos focus on you and not the mess around you! Natural light as a huge bonus, so pick a room with a HUGE window to light you up perfectly!
^ Think about your altar!
^ Get a nice hanger for your dress!
EVERY image from your ceremony will have the altar in it. Think about creating a unique piece of artwork for your altar. From streamers to paper flowers, a beautiful chuppah, or a gorgeous art installation of old antique doors and windows,
It doesn’t HAVE to be one of those Etsy gems that say “bride” on it, although we love those, but get a hanger that looks nice. Forget the metal and plastic hangers that are out there... there {photos borrowed from Pinterest}
there are endless ways to make your ceremony photos one of a kind! Don’t settle for the scenic view or church decor ... make it personalized, make it YOU!
^ Use props!
I know they can seem tacky, but there are some really cool props out there like gorgeous colored parasols, funky french umbrellas, fake mustaches, “I’m His Mrs. I’m her Mr.” signs, anything you can think of... bring them along! Anything that adds color and personalization to your photos is welcomed by us! We LOVE a good boat too...have a canoe adorned in flowers on sight for a few photos to really put your images a step above the rest!!!
^ Invest in UPLIGHTING!
Some DJ’s or venues provide this option, while there are lighting companies that specialize in event lighting as well! Lighting can TOTALLY transform a space, and really give you a party feel for your reception. Have you seen those gorgeous dancing photos where the walls are a bright shade of pink or green in the background? Yep, UPLIGHTING! It gives an ambiance to your photos, and also is a sneaky way to provide a little extra light so you can get better photos of your guests showing us their best (and worst) moves on the dance floor!
^ Pick a dress with texture and don’t be afraid of beautiful, bold and unique accessories! You may not wear these things on a daily basis, but this is no regular day: it’s your WEDDING day! Wear a flower crown, funky veil or a bold necklace. Get the coolest shoes you’ve ever seen, yeah, even if they’re bright orange or covered in glitter! Maybe choose a chunky mixed media necklace that’s super colorful to go with your all white attire. Whatever you choose, make it fun and make it you! These details are what really make you stand out from the crowd and will do wonders for your confidence, and your photos!
FAQ’S (ya know, those questions that EVERYBODY asks) Q: We definitely want to book you! What’s the next step? A: Awesome! We’re excited to work with you! To officially book us, you’ll have to decide on a package, we’ll write you up a contract, you’ll have to sign the contract and pay a non-refundable booking fee of $1,500. As soon as those two things are in, you’re BOOKED! YAY!
Q: So, we booked... is there a payment plan or how does the rest of the money stuff work? A: That’s up to you! Your remaining balance is due no later than thirty days before your wedding date, but if you want pay in monthly payments, quarterly payments, or one lump sum is up to you! We’re flexible!
Q: What are your thoughts on transportation? Limos? Trollies? A: TROLLY! OR a killer vintage car! Although limos are classy, from a photo perspective, trollies, vintage cars, and anything unique makes for gorgeous photos! Limos are dark inside, and tough to get a good angle to photograph from!
Q: We have a certain number of hours in our package, how do you recommend we make the most out of our time with you? A: Great question! We require a minimum of ninety minutes to do all formal photos (bride and groom portraits, wedding party and
family formals), preferably two hours. The best way to budget your photo time most effectively would be to look at your wedding day time line and see what time the last formal event is scheduled to take place at your reception (usually either bouquet toss or cake cutting). Plan to have us one hour past that time to cover an hour of dancing. That will be our end time. From there, count backwards the number of hours of coverage that you have us for and that will give you a great start time. Example: Cake cutting is at 10pm... go back one hour to 11pm that will be our end time. If you have us for eight hours we would start at 3pm. Still have questions? Ask us, and we’ll work with you to plan the best coverage for your day!
Q: Should we have a receiving line to greet our guests after the ceremony? A: We say no! It’s your choice, of course, but from our experience receiving lines take up VALUABLE photo time and tend to be
pretty impersonal. Greet your guests at your reception. The faster we get to photos, the faster you get to your reception to spend QUALITY time with your guests! None of this hug and shove stuff.
