Design is a process that enhances experiences. Architecture is an art form that is meant to be explored, used, and experienced by people. It can invoke emotions and memories within a person and through great design personal experience is heightened. Design that considers multiple aspects of personal experiences creates a lasting impression on people. Each person’s experience is different in a building, but design that combines elements such as form, structure, light in a way that customizes and enhances the experience of each individual turns architecture into a design that is unlike any other art form. Architecture is a way to alter and influence how people see and experience their surroundings. It is an art form that is physically explored by individuals and used on a daily basis. It can focus one’s attention to a specific element and reveal unexpected surprises. Through design one has the power to alter how the world around them is viewed and customize an experience that benefits and leaves a lasting impression on each individual and the larger whole. Great design is when the designer is able to successfully combine all of these elements to create a lasting experience and impression that not only invokes emotions but still holds its functionality.

The project centers around creating a community and neighborhood in a vertical setting. The tower is located in Southwark, London. Spring 2011 Public Transit Center
In a group of five students, we worked with the city of Carthage, Missouri to come up with a twenty year vision for the city. The town of Carthage is known for their historical homes and Civil War ar battle site. Through a series of town visits, interviews, and community meetings our team was able to come up with a vision of revitalizing the downtown heart and re-connecting the city. Our team proposed a series of improvements including pedestrian-friendly streets, historical district codes, museum additions and renovations, and additional housing and retail. The city has as begun to make many of the improvements suggested by our team.

Aigina Waterfront Fall 2011 This project was re-designing the water front in Aigina, Greece at the port entrance. Since many people using this waterfront are tourists the design attracts people as they arrive to the port. It then pulls them along the waterfront where they experience a series of displays that inform them about the island. The design also encompasses the area adjacent to the waterfront giving pedestrians a safe area to cross the street and an area for tourists and locals to experience Aigina.
