Awosting Alchemy Call for Submissions

Page 1

Awosting Alchemy is seeking submissions for its inaugural online issue for Fall 2010. We are inspired by the Hudson Valley and know that so many of you are as well. Submissions welcome in the form of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and art. If you’ve got something you created that falls outside of those categories, but think we’ll love it, send that along, too! It’s OK to live in Brooklyn and dream of Catskill bonfires–we’ll read your work as well. Work inspired/relating to the Hudson Valley is our main focus, but we don’t exactly live in a box. Send along your best work, even if it’s more walkin-the-desert than-walk-in-the-woods; we get inspired by new places and understand the feeling. We hope to showcase the best creative work from the most talented writers and artists of the area (a wide-reaching area because we know so many of you choose to spend your time here, and we love that you do), publishing several times a year. Do not assume you are excluded because you do not call New Paltz or Stone Ridge your home base. You obviously have a Hudson Valley connection if you’ve found us! Please send only previously unpublished work. Deadline for inaugural issue is October 31st, 2010. Work submitted beyond deadline will be considered for upcoming issues. We look forward to receiving your work, and hope you will enjoy the launch of Awosting Alchemy this November! Format–put genre, artist’s name, and work’s title in the subject line. Ex: Poetry. Jones. “Mountain Rest” AwostingAlchemy@hotmail.com Please send all work in a lovely, accessible attachment, free of any kooky stuff to mess with our technology here at *Aw/Al*. Please also include a brief bio of yourself and where we might find more of your work that can be published with your submission, if chosen. Poetry: Send up to 3 poems or 3 pages, whichever comes first. Fiction & Non: Send up to 5,000-ish words Art: Photographers, painters, printmakers, sculptors, ceramists, weavers, woodworkers, designers, video artists, and everyone else who creates, please send easily accessible images and information about the work. We are unable to offer financial compensation for selected work, however, we do offer a fee-free submission process and our entire magazine will be free to the public online in November. Writers retain all rights for their work, post-publication. We simply ask that if your work is published elsewhere afterward, that you credit Awosting Alchemy as its first home.
