Kaolin Court

Small Residential development London

Kaolin Court is located in outer London, the development comprises a fourstorey residential block along the street front, with four houses facing onto a shared courtyard to the rear. Kaolin Court aims to promote social interactions and community vibe and family life within the development through the central semi-public shared courtyard with semi-private porch spaces in front of the units, encouraging a ‘streetscape’ within the courtyard. The whole scheme creates a playful and sculptural interpretation of the mews typology, combined with a form of shared living, much needed in the densely populated capital.

Penrose Mews

Small Residential development London Penrose Mew is located at a complex back-land site in Fulham, London. The site was previously occupied by workshops. The development comprises of a 3-stories residential unit facing the street front and eight 2-stories residential units with a basement level all facing towards a shared courtyard to the centre of the site. Surrounded by many adjoining neighbours, Penrose Mew aims to become a peaceful sanctuary within the busy urban context. Lightwells are strategically placed at the back of each units, bringing fresh air and lights to the basement and back of each unit. To achieve a balance between privacy and natural light to the rooms, windows facing the share courtyard are small whilst windows facing lightwell are larger. The first floor terrace has a hit and missed brick pattern with plantings guarding both the neighbours and residences from overlooking issues.



A CHALLENGING BACK-LAND SITE Situated in the busy metropolitan city, Penrose Mews is surrounded with 14 neighbouring buildings resulting in the requirement of 20 no. party awards for Penrose Mews and 10 different of boundary detail and careful consideration is required for the both structural and privacy aspect. This tight urban site brings additional challenges to construction such as site access, scaffolding and programme scheduling. We worked closely with the contractor to plan out various construction management and detailing to ensure a smooth operation throughout the construction.

Barn House One off House Herefordshire

Barn House is a one off 3-bedroom private family house in Herefordshire. The project had won two RIBA awards and was featured on Grand Designs. The brief was to deliver a budgeted yet beautiful family home. Taking inspiration from the rural vernacular of the site, the design intention was to create a modernised barn house with industrial material. The project was designed to be a high-performance home with little in-use energy consumption. Energy consumption was minimised by incorporating renewable energy sources, highly insulated building envelope and was orientated to maximize the benefit of solar gain.

Yitian Retail Development is located in ShenZhen, the retail development offers over 350 commercial units, a theatre and 10 residential blocks on top of the shopping centre. The retail development is broken down into 2 zones, the central shopping mall and smaller scaled retail blocks. The grand-gesture shopping mall offers of all-round shopping experience with art and installation whilst the retail blocks offers intimate shopping experience for the visitors. The broken down retail blocks also helps to overcome a 4 m level difference across the site.

One of the main challenging is the connectivity within the plot. The plot span over 86,260m2 and Hong Yip Road lies in the middle of the site, discouraging people flow. A network of pedestrian footbridges are designed to connect amongst the different elements of the site and encourage pedestrian flow across the HongYip road. These bridges not only work as a circulation but also can facilitate for potential events.

Fairy Mountain Resort Chong Qing

Fairy Mountain is located in the natural reserve area of ChongQing. The resort offers a museum, hotel, event space, Dinning hall and a plaza. The project aims to integrate with the nature and provide a relaxing retreat for the visitors. Seeking inspiration from the atmospheric ambience of the site, the layered wavy façade is designed to imitate the poetic mountain range. The building will be cladded in an earthtone glazed ceramics panels, giving a bit of shimmer under the sun.
