TECHNICAL PERFECTION  Every component in a DUOL air dome benefits from over 20 years of experience and high investment in R&D.

 DUOL engineers the structure so that it meets the same code requirements established for permanent buildings. All DUOL’s constructions are produced according to the European standard EN 13782.This standard specifies the necessary safety requirements for temporary installed tents of more than 50m2 ground area In the following areas: design, calculation, manufacture, installation, maintenance, operation, examination and testing. The European standard incorporates the different existing national regulations and guidelines as far as possible.

 DUOL’s final product is certified with ISO management system 9001 as well in compliance with standard EN 13782, means we keep in all calculations reserve as requested with this standard.

QUICK INSTALLATION

Quick installation After design approval we design, manufacture, and install turnkey structures in a matter of weeks. Installation is simple, quick and cost effective. The dome is handed over to the client after a detailed maintenance course with complete operation and maintenance manuals for the air structure, covering the equipment included.


INSTALLATION PROCESS 1. PREPARING THE FOUNDATIONS Preparing foundations, drilling and inserting anchors (built in anchors are added when filling with concrete).

2. STRETCHING THE MEMBRANE During stretching and joining the membrane process, additional help from local people is required (usually 10-25). Pallets containing the membrane are placed in the right position by a crane or fork lift. Before putting the doors in place, their foundations must be ready.


INSTALLATION PROCESS 3. INSTALLING THE HEATINGINFLATION UNIT Before installing the heating-inflation unit the foundations must be ready with all necessary electric cables and pipes for fuel or gas.

4. ANCORING THE MEMBRANE The anchoring system depends on the type (seasonal or permanent) and on the size of the air dome. Pipes or L bars are usually used for fixing the membrane.


INSTALLATION PROCESS 5. INFLATING THE DOME Inflating of the dome is done in windless conditions. Inflating takes 20-50 minutes depending of the size of the structure.

6. INSTALLING THE LIGHTING To install direct lights, the dome must be deflated. This procedure requires the same conditions as needed for inflating the dome.

ELECTRIC GENERATORS Our electric generators provide a continuous and alternate supply of electricity with auto start function, and automatically shutdown when returnquality power on. Generator can be used as only back-up unit or as constant source of electricity. Standard generators have 12-24 h autonomy, which can be extended up to 100h, and more. Implementation of the generating set is stable, closed - engine generator group is embedded in sound insulated waterproof case. Operating and start-up temperature is from -55 to +55째C. Generator is managed by the control panel, mounted on the unit, with the possibility of remote monitor and control by computer. Aggregates are equipped with tested and reliable engines of well-known manufacturers (Iveco, Cummins, perking, Volvo ...) and alternators (Mecc Alte ...), which have service network practically all over the world. Based on the project location, most appropriate engine is used.


ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS Wind speed detection system Our wind speed detection system is the most advanced automatic system available. It uses modern computerized controls for interior pressure, heating and monitoring. The emergency unit is switched on by the system in the case of strong winds, in order to maintain the right pressure inside the air dome.

Air generators with modulating system The control system proportionally decreases or increases the burner’s heat output as the appliance's temperature approaches the set point. There is an automatic variation of the burner’s heat output depending on requirements. With this system you can optimise consumption. This system provides up to a 35% saving. (In a non-modulating system there is only one firing rate; on or off and it fires at its maximum rate whenever the burner is on.)

De-stratification system The De-stratification system improves temperature distribution in the space and reduces the time needed to reach the Ta, this in turn reduces the time the heaters are turned on. It is designed for quiet operation.

ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS DUOL Intellergy DUOL Intellergy is an innovative solution for supervision and automation of air domes. The installed programmable logic controller (ComBox.M) interacts with different air dome systems and is used for supervision, automation and control solution. Once connected the users have easy access via web cloud base application GemaLogic and smartphones.

DUOL DMSTM DMSTM (Double Membrane System) is Duol innovative solution with specially designed air pockets which greatly reduce energy consumption.

DMSTM comes with three variants. Standard DMSTM provides thermal insulation of 3.05 W/m2K, while DMS PlusTM provides thermal insulation down to 1.74 W/m2K and E-DMS PlusTM down to 1.43 W/m2K (measured by independent test institute).

DMSTMthermo (Double membrane system without thermal bridges) is available for best thermal insulation.


FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS Standard Duol membranes are UV resistant, but with use of a special lacquer finish like PVDF TiO² this resistance is even better, which increases the material's quality and lifetime.


FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS  DURABILITY / LIFE EXPECTANCY In DUOL double membrane systems, the replacement of the membrane is not required and the life expectancy is extended to 40+ years based on tests, experiences and existing projects.  NATURAL LIGHT As both membranes are highly translucent, the use of a lighting system is not required during the daytime, which leads to big savings on electricity.  FIRE RESISTANCE All membranes are fire retardant, certified by the following certificates: M2/NFP 92-507, TEST 2/NFPA 701, CSFM T19, B1/DIN 4102-1, BS 7837, B1/0N0RM B 3800-1, M2/UNE 23.727, VKF 5.3/SN 198898 and others.  RIGIDITY With mechanical resistance and specific porosity design, our fabrics provide excellent dimensional stability, structural strength and wind protection. Thanks to the DUOL expanded double membrane system, the DUOL domes are very rigid and vandalism resistant. In case of any damage to the outer membrane, the inner membrane will remain air tight and retain its pressure and stability.

Duol are experts in designing air domes for extreme weather conditions. We enhance all elements (membrane, air generators, anchoring system‌) to withstand extremely low or high temperatures with strong winds and heavy snow.


EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS Duol advanced technology allows installation of air domes in extreme weather conditions without any cable support.

Only two Duol air domes are supported with cables - air dome in Hveragerdi, Iceland and air dome in Kamchatka, Russia, where winds quite often reach speeds of more than 50 m/s, along with heavy snow fall. For most other climate areas there is no need for cable support with Duol technology.


DUOL DOUBLE MEMBRANE SYSTEM vs CABLE NET SYSTEM INSULATION The DUOL double membrane system provides excellent thermal insulation from 3.05W/m2K to 1.43W/m2K. This is achieved by inflating the space between the two membranes with air (approx. 50-100 Pa, compared to the pressure inside the air dome). This slight overpressure ensures that the membranes are always inflated, whilst the static air is an excellent insulator. Compare this to the cable net system, which has a total inflated thickness of only a couple of centimeters, and offers very poor insulation. DURABILITY / LIFE EXPECTANCY In a DUOL double membrane system, the replacement of the membrane is not required and the life expectancy is extended to 40+ years, based on tests, experience and existing projects. Compare this to the cable net system, where the layers have to be replaced every couple of years, due to friction between the cables and the fabric. INTERNAL PRESSURE The pressure kept in the DUOL domes is minimal, 150-250Pa in normal situations. This ensures perfect stability in all weather conditions and less energy consumption. Compare this to the cable net system, which due to its cables weight requires much greater internal pressure (250-400Pa) which leads to much greater energy consumption. CONDENSATION Thanks to the excellent insulation, achieved by a DUOL double membrane system, there is no condensation phenomenon inside the air dome. In a cable net system, because of poor insulation and big thermal bridges, there is a big risk of condensation on the outer side of the dome.


DUOL DOUBLE MEMBRANE SYSTEM vs CABLE NET SYSTEM LOSS OF TRANSLUCENCY Duol fabric has self-cleaning characteristics and is absolutely maintenance free. The cables on the outer side of the membrane of the cable net system prevent the dirt and microorganisms from sliding off the surface. Dirt cannot be totally removed, therefore translucency is reduced. This causes a greater cost for the client.

RIGIDITY Thanks to the DUOL expanded double membrane system, the DUOL domes are extremely rigid and vandalism resistant. In case of any damage on the outer membrane, the inner membrane will remain air tight and retain its pressure and stability. With the cable net system, if there is any membrane damage there are big air losses and the structure stability is jeopardised. SNOW The shape of the air dome, which is designed to take into account size and weather conditions of the location, has a totally flat surface and lacquer finish, which ensures that the snow slides from the air dome. Compare this to the cable net system, where cables on the outer side of the membrane prevent the snow from sliding off the surface, which leads to snow accumulation and consequently to the collapse of the air dome. SEASONAL INSTALLATION / DISMANTLING As two membranes are welded together, the installation process is extremely fast. The membrane only needs to be spread, connected and anchored before the erection of the dome can take place. This operation only takes a few hours. It is the same for seasonal dismantling. As the cable net system requires spreading of different layers, connecting them and the installation of metal net, the installation/dismantling process is significantly longer and the costs are higher.


AIR DOME ELEMENTS


LIGHTING SYSTEM The Duol high intensity metal (halide) lightning systems utilise highly efficient optical reflectors to provide maximum light uniformly across the playing surface. The inner ambience of the dome is lit by the correct quantity of the halogen lamps in two different modes: directly or indirectly. With direct lighting, the lamps are mounted on to the membrane. This lights up the sports field directly. With indirect lighting, the lamps are installed onto metal poles.


LIGHTING SYSTEM In order to maximise the amount of light in the dome, we design our lighting system to reflect off the curved dome surfaces and bounce light back to the floor. The key is the highly reflective fabric liner which was specifically formulated for this purpose.

LED LIGHTS From single tennis court to football stadium and everything in between, effective and durable lighting solutions are important to ensure that the game goes on regardless of the conditions. Duol’s innovative DuoLedTM lights are ideal solutions for all sport sizes, environments and conditions. In addition to the huge savings in electricity, DuoLedTM also offer significant savings due to reduced maintenance and replacement costs thanks to Led’s durability and longer lifespan.

We replaced the “traditional” lighting with DuoLedTM. Previously, the power consumption was higher than 5 kWh and the average illumination was not satisfactory. The old lights were close to end of their life cycle and seldom exceeded 200 Lux on the ground. By adopting the DuoLedTM, lights the tennis court is now using less than 2,5 kWh with over 350 Lux average lighting and remarkable uniformity.

The higher investment costs of DuolLedTM (blue line) is repaid in two and a half years on average (exact time depends on local electricity price and on light usage per day).


ANCHORING SYSTEM There are many ways to connect the membrane to the concrete beam. ďƒ˜ Rings with a peg crossed by a metal tube or a grounding anchor with a metal tube are used for temporary assembly for seasonal use of the dome.

ďƒ˜ For permanent assembly the anchoring is done by metal profiles. The anchors are mounted into a concrete beam at a distance 1m, around the perimeter. ďƒ˜ The anchoring in some situations could also be done by auger anchors, without any concrete foundation. Auger anchors are fitted directly to the ground in the depth of 2m.

With the DUOL advanced anchorage system, air loss around the base perimeter is greatly reduced, providing savings on inflation.

ANCHORING SYSTEM The DUOL anchorage system is designed to leave no protrusions above ground when the structure is removed.


ANCHORING SYSTEM The membrane can be anchored into a concrete beam with use of special ground anchors, fitted directly into the ground. With ground-anchoring system there is no need for concrete beam.


SECTIONAL RECONNECTION For large air structures and many seasonal structures, it is desirable to limit the size of a single section of the fabric envelope. A series of long aluminum or wooden bars create an air and water tight flexible seal that is covered by heavy duty fabric to eliminate leaks.


REVOLVING DOOR A unique feature of air structures is their doors which are specifically designed for a continuous positive pressure environment. There are three main types of doors used in air structures: Revolving Doors for normal entry into the dome, Pedestrian Doors and Emergency Exit Doors.

Revolving Doors are specifically built to withstand the building pressure pushing in both directions on the panels without fatigue failure. Brush seals minimize air losses whilst maintaining a smooth operation. The doors include large glass panels in order to see other users and the housing is made from maintenance free aluminum.


PEDESTRIAN DOOR Pedestrian Doors are used for wheelchair access, and deliveries. They are suitable as an entrance for disabled people. Two doors are built in a frame with a short connecting tunnel creating an airlock system, thereby maintaining the building pressure and minimizing air loss. The frame and doors are also built from aluminum for long life and include vision panels for safety.


EMERGENCY DOOR Standard dimensions are 143cm x 220cm. The frame and the door leaf are made of metal. The door leaf has small circle window.


TRANSPORT TUNNEL Large equipment such as trucks can be brought into air structures by the use of a transport tunnel. Two large overhead doors at each end of the tunnel are interlocked so that only one door may be open at a time. Transport tunnels use high strength doors and are available with remote control switches and key locks. The roof of the metal construction is covered by a polyester fabric coated with PVC foil. The walls of the tunnel are enclosed by metal sheets.

CONNECTING OPTIONS Air structures can be attached to other buildings in a variety of ways.

If the need arises for a larger facility, expanding or modifying an air structure is a simple procedure and can be accomplished with minimum disruption. Our dome can be shortened, prolonged or relocated at any time. Doors, tunnels and connections to buildings can be added at any time.

Air Dome Personalisation With DUOL air domes it is possible to place advertisements / logos on the air dome. They can be various sizes and colors.


AIR DOME ADVANTAGES Safety View The air supported structure is an autonomic object, meaning in an emergency situation it is maintained by itself. The emergency heating unit provides stability to the dome in case of a blowing unit fault or in case of an electricity break-down. Each dome is equipped with a certain number of emergency exits according to the dimensions and purpose of the dome. The fabric is fire-retardant and all mechanical equipment meets relevant standards. The unique structural design of the air dome allows it to with stand heavy winds and snow and, unlike conventional buildings, there is less danger of collapsing debris in an earthquake.     
