This landscape creates different levels of connection between variable spaces that are occupied by a range of activities that spill in from and out into the city.

The ‘Monster Bowl’ a plateau for residents and visitors of the city to engage the fabric of the urban landscape at a human scale; allowing them to experience the connection of the boulevard to the city, both at street level and above.

The Courtyard House Advanced Architecture Studio IX, Fall 2010 The Courtyard House as a building types is a unique design problem, where the open green space within the confines of the house needs to have its own separation between public and private.

Solvay Coke Brownfield Restoration Group Project with Jed Terc

Master of Landscape Architecture Studio VIII, Spring 2010 The Solvay Coke site as proposed is intended to be a popular and vibrant, multi-faceted destination for commuters, residents, workers and visitors to the City of Milwaukee. The two main focus points of the plan are Kinnickinnic Avenue and the potential new addition of a metra stop on the Kenosha Racine Milwaukee line just north of the development site.

L A F

Our goal for the Solvay Coke site was to create an urban development that serves as a transition from its industrial past to a new sustainable future.

Heirloom ECo-Village Group Project with Megan Wade, Jason DeGeeter, and Nathan Sylvester Master of Landscape Architecture Studio VIII, Spring 2010 A 144-Acre site in Kankakee, IL, family owned farmland, within the Limestone Township

L A F

Along with creating a master plan for the township, the goal of the project was to convert the 144 acres into a self sustaining community. The program included enough farming to sustain all families living on site, and a large portion reserved for prairie restoration.

Theater on the Lake Advanced Architecture Studio VI, Spring 2009 The site, located at the intersection of Fullerton and Lake Shore Drive, on the Northside of Chicago. has an already existing “Theater on the Lake. The new design calls for a larger facility that housed one larger theater and a smaller black box theater. As an additional design component to the project was the reorganizing of the Lake Shore bike/ pedestrian path that moves across the site and accomodating it for safe passage of both people walking and also those riding their bikes.

Ever Changing Repetition Sukkah City Competition Entry, Summer 2011 One material type; elongated, shortened, horizontal, vertical, connected, left hanging in the air. All the steps repeated in a way to create an order based on an ancient set of rules that are placed in a modern setting.

Architecture when it is concieved has its own rhythm, one that is clearly shown in tis first 2-dimensional form.

When constructed in our 3-dimensional world, to create this rhythm things are repeated and changed as they repeat.

Resilient Residential Design 2014 Competition Entry: Urban Green Councul R3Build Competition

Following Superstorm Sandy, New York began a much needed process of evaluating how resilient their infrastructure is, and what needs to be done should other storms of that magnitude occur. This conversation is not limited to just to the infrastructure of transportation, sewage, and energy distribution; but also to how the way the residents of New York can live along the various waterfronts they have come to call home.

L A F

For the Bklyn_Basin Entry, the first floor is at an elevation of +15’-0”, this added height allows for the landscaping at the ground level to be used as a means of water management. The mechanical / storage space of the house, what would typically be a basement in other homes is at a +7’-0” elevation.

To assist with energy costs, multiple strategies have been put in place, to encourage passive heating and cooling. Placing a green roof on the residence serves as a thermal barrier keeping heat in during the winter and cooling the house during the summer through means of evaporating water absorbed by the vegetation. By sloping the roof to one side, and implementing sun tubes, the building is able to take in a maximum amount of natural day-light to reduce the need for artificial light. Open spaces in the second floor allow for light from the roof to reach down to the first floor. The design has the ability to include means of saving money on heating and water usage. The sloped green roof can have a solar panel attached to utilize a solar water heater as a backup for any issues that may arise with the boiler or should the electricity go out. In addition there is space available in the Mechanical room to place a grey water storage/filtration system, to irrigate the landscape should there be long periods of time with no rainfall.

L A F The decision to leave the mechanical at a lower level instead of placing it on the top of the building was based on the zoning height restriction and also to ensure that the residents retained the better views of the waterfront.

Modeling in Sketchup Single Family Home

An exercise in modeling with Sketchup. The starter home is a single family home, 3 bedrooms (including a master), a den, 2.5 baths and an attached garage. The first floor is an open plan allowing for freedom of movements between the living spaces using the stairwell and kitchen layout as natural barriers
