ADAPTING DOMESTICITIES Semester - 3 Typology - Residence

01

We all found ourselves in an unprecedented predicament during the pandemic: confined inside our homes. Over time, each of us adjusted to the circumstances and introduced a fresh interpretation of what "home" means. It was undoubtedly difficult to make our house a place where we could both be comfortable and earn a living when we worked from home. The studio's major goal was to study individuals and how they behave in different environments, as well as to develop a home that closely relates to our current predicament during the epidemic.

CHARACTER STUDY Noah

Ann

John

Leah

The first thing done in the studio was to imagine and create personalities. Our site's narrative, which we created, served as the inspiration for our design. Ann, John, and their kids John and Leah were the clients for my design. Ann works as a potter, which was taken into consideration for the design.

Situated in Muvattupuzha, the site is removed from the urban environment and is bordered by rubber plantations and a neighbouring river. There are four plots on the property, each housing a distinct profession: librarian, potter, dancer, and tailor. A variety of the site's current conditions were examined. Creating ties between the neighbours on the property was one of the studio's goals.

NEW KERALA HOUSING Semester - 6 Typology - Housing Team - Lavannya-K,Henan Haskar Olakara

02

The primary goal of this project is to sketch up a picture of the kind of homes Kerala will have in 2035. It is possible to make assumptions about how the world will change in 12 years, but these assumptions are influenced by a lot of evidence that has to be examined. Over the course of the studio, a number of topics were taken into consideration, including how schooling will change, how we would respond to a cultural site, and how the vegetation will grow on the site. The term "adaptive reuse" has been introduced, bringing a new intervention method to the site.

Legend

1. Street 2. Living Museum 3. Parking 4. Housing The location of the site is in Mananchira, Kozhikode, Kerala. What can be considered Kozhikode's heartland surrounds the site. Our site is surrounded by numerous historically significant locations, and one is located within it. COMTRUST is a historical location with significance for weaving throughout history. We extended SM Street into the location as it is close by, which helped to draw the crowd in. The store is modelled after the famous rose windowed left front of COMTRUST. Only a portion of COMTRUST is preserved as a living museum; the remainder being destroyed to make way for homes. Our approach to heritage is to keep COMTRUST's iconic facade intact and preserve its history through a living museum.

The youth user group’s demands were taken into consideration when creating the unit plans. The units have a straightforward layout that takes into account the number of users and the preferred view for each.

Given that it is primarily passed down through male family generations, weaving is a disappearing skill. To facilitate the weaving community’s dissemination of their art and culture, a platform for weaving is being offered. Individuals interested in weaving live and work on the ground floor. For a brief period, individuals who share an interest in art can coexist and study as a community. One possible outlet for the products would be the adjacent street market.

GROUND FLOOR

Public access is available to the podium roof on the first floor. A lovely view of the Mananchira Pond can be seen from the podium floor. The podium’s existence makes the building above it appear to float. The columns descend to the bottom floor, where they essentially create the ground floor’s plan. Common amenities including a gym, a laundry room, and places with lounging and lush vegetation are all located on the podium.

FIRST FLOOR

TYPICAL FLOOR PLAN Mananchira is situated in Kozhikode’s city centre. Because of the area’s access to a wide range of amenities, housing costs are extremely expensive. The idea behind the second kind of housing is to offer reasonably priced, fully equipped, and centrally located homes. Three levels above, the standard floor plan is shared. Depending on what the needs of the general public are, there are several types of shared rooms. The furniture arrangement varies, and the balconies are positioned according to the site’s different viewpoints.

THE HORIZON Semester - 4 Workshop- Metaplay Team - Lavannya-K,Nihal Lalu , Jishna ,Hanina

03

A workshop called Metaplay was conducted in association with DEZACT and the Avani Institute of Design. The goal of the workshop was to learn the fundamentals of Unreal Engine and Maya. The project's concept is to create a hub that links blackholes to other regions of the cosmos. The hub is made to be able to accommodate spacecraft and is packed with varied activities. Jupiter is home to the hub.
