Valiente hace historia al ganar la Copa de Oro frente a Ellerston El equipo de Cambiaso completa una temporada perfecta y se hace con la Triple Corona, un hito que no se repetía desde 2008 en Sotogrande. Los dos conjuntos ofrecen el mejor partido del torneo R. M. SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente ha inscrito en mayúsculas su nombre en la historia de Santa María Polo Club. El equipo estadounidense, en su primera participación en Sotogrande, ha completado un 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo perfecto con la consecución de la Triple Corona, un hito que no se daba desde 2008. El conjunto de Adolfo Cambiaso doblegó el pasado sábado 30 de agosto a Ellerston en la final de la Copa de Oro Bulgari por 14 a 11. Los dos equipos ofrecieron el mejor partido del torneo y la final más espectacular que se recuerda en muchos años en Sotogrande.

Nada más pisar las instalaciones de Santa María se palpaba que el ambiente era especial, propio de las grandes citas deportivas. El despliegue de Fuerzas de Seguridad impactaba, así como la avalancha de público dirigiéndose a la cancha IV de Los Pinos. El cartel de no hay billetes se col-

La final era la soñada para la Copa de Oro de alto handicap: Valiente frente a Ellerston.

El equipo invicto hasta el momento contra el defensor del título del año pasado. Cambiaso, el mejor jugador del mundo, frente a los hermanos Facundo y Gonzalo Pieres, los números 2 y 6 del ranking internacional de la WPT. Sólo se podía pedir un buen partido, y los contendientes no defraudaron.

Ellerston llegaba a la gran final con una sola derrota en su casillero, precisamente frente a Valiente, que lo tumbó con relativa comodidad en las semifinales de la Copa de Plata. Sin embargo, nada más empezó a rodar la bocha sobre el césped se palpó que esta vez iba a ser distinto y que el conjunto australiano iba a darlo todo sobre la cancha.

igualdad absoluta. El intercambio de golpes entre ambos cuartetos fue constante, en una primera fase del encuentro generosa en goles.

Valiente llegó al término del primer chukker con ventaja por 3-2. Una distancia que mantuvo en el segundo (6-5). El equipo patroneado por Bob Jornayvaz no logró despegarse en ningún momento y Ellerston puso la igualada (8-8) en el tercer chukker.

La segunda fase del encuentro empezó bien distinta. Los dos equipos tomaron los mínimos riesgos y exprimieron a sus caballos al máximo. Las tácticas llamaban a salvaguardar las porterías y se defendió al límite. Crear una ocasión costaba sudor y los nervios afloraron al fallarse algunas claras, incluidos lanzamientos de penaltis. La lucha de los dos equipos fue sublime. Cambiaso capitaneaba con maestría a Valiente ayudado por sus dos escuderos de lujo: Santi Torres y Santi Laborde. Mientras, Ellerston daba muestras de su potencial con los hermanos Pieres al frente, acompañados

por Thomas Brodie y James Packer. La igualdad era absoluta. Muestra de ello es que en el cuarto chukker sólo se movió el marcador en una ocasión para cada equipo. Lo mismo pasó en el quinto. Sólo quedaba el sexto y definitivo chukker.

Siete minutos para decidir el campeón con 10 a 10 en el marcador. Máxima emoción y las espadas en todo lo alto.

En el último asalto salió a relucir el polo de la más alta escuela. No había margen para las dudas y los dos equipos salieron decididos hacia la victoria. El partido se abrió y volvió el mejor juego de ataque. Fue entonces cuando surgió la figura de Cambiaso, a la postre decisiva para declinar la balanza.

Valiente tomó las riendas del encuentro y marcó pronto dos goles (12 a 10), abriendo brecha por primera vez en el partido. Ellerston se volcó a tumba abierta a por el empate, consciente de que se le iba el partido. El conjunto australiano recortó distancias merced a un tanto de Facundo Pieres, uno de los mejores goles del torneo. El argentino cabal-

gó por el lateral presionado por varios adversarios y golpeó la bocha casi desde el córner colándola en la portería. El manejo del taco del jugador y su enorme puntería levantaron al graderío. Había partido. El patrón de Valiente arengaba al público. La tensión era máxima.

Pero Cambiaso no estaba dispuesto a que se le escapara la final y volvió a marcar tras deshacerse de varios rivales.

La Copa de Oro estaba cerca y el mejor jugador del mundo la rubricó con una jugada difícil de olvidar. Con Ellerston volcado, Cambiaso cogió la bocha en su propio campo y enfiló la portería a lomos de su caballo a la velocidad del trueno. Sus

oponentes no pudieron darle caza y el argentino se metió con la bocha dentro del arco.

No había tiempo para más. Valiente era el campeón tras poner el 14 a 11 en el marcador.

Con el pitido final, los jugadores cabalgaron hasta su palenque tirando los tacos al aire. Allí ya daban saltos de alegría los responsables y petiseros del equipo. Cambiaso fue el primero en llegar y se fundió en un abrazo con su mujer María Vázquez. Jornayvaz hacía lo propio con su familia, mientras se bailaba al grito de “campeones”. No faltó el baño de agua para Laborde mientras era entrevistado por la ESPN. El patrón de Valiente no ocultó su satisfacción por el triunfo y destacó la dificultad de la final contra Ellerston. “Ha sido un gran partido. Tengo que reconocer que los Pieres son unos rivales increíbles, han jugado muy bien. Hasta el último minuto no se sabía quién iba a ganar, así que ha sido un gran partido”, indicó el de Colorado.

Jornayvaz también subrayó la calidad del torneo en Sotogrande: “La competición ha sido in-

creíble. Tengo que reconocer a Santa María su fantástica labor al traer a 12 equipos tan espectaculares”.

Cambiaso, por su parte, destacó el gran trabajo de la organización tras ganar su segunda Copa de Oro en Sotogrande tras la de 1999 con Outback. Asimismo, apuntó a su próxima parada, en Argentina, donde intentará repetir con su equipo La Dolfina el éxito de la Triple Corona de 2013.

Luego, la fiesta de Valiente se trasladó a la ceremonia de entrega de trofeos, donde recibieron la Copa de Oro Bulgari de manos del actor Jordi Mollá y de la princesa Beatriz de Orleans. El cuarteto de Valiente alzó al cielo, por tercera vez consecutiva este verano, una copa; algo que no se veía en Sotogrande desde 2008 cuando lo hizo Ahmibah, del patrón Bahar Jefri y Pablo Mac Donough. Valiente se confirmaba así como el mejor equipo de la temporada con la Triple Corona. El broche de lujo bañado en oro para este 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover, el mejor de la historia de Santa María.

Valiente makes history by winning the Gold Cup against Ellerston R. M. SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente has inscribed its name in capital letters in the history books of the Santa Maria Polo Club. The American team, in their first appearance in Sotogrande, finished off a perfect tournament with their Triple Crown win at the 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tournament, an accomplishment that has not happened since 2008. Adolfo Cambiaso’s team defeated Ellerston on Saturday 30th August in the final of the Bulgari Gold Cup by 14-11. The two teams put on the best match of the tournament, and the most spectacular final in living memory for many years in Sotogrande.

The atmosphere emanating from inside the facilities of the Santa Maria club was spectacular, typical of such large sporting events. The display from the Security Forces certainly made an impact, as well as the swaths of members of the public who headed towards the Los Pinos IV field. A sign stating ‘Sold out’ soon hung from the stands, a reason why many attempted to find a gap, from where they could watch the match.

It was a dream final for the high handicap Gold Cup: Valiente against Ellerston. The so far undefeated team against last year’s defending champion. Cambiaso, the best player in the world, up against

You could have only asked for a great match, and the competitors did not disappoint.

Ellerston reached the final with only one defeat to their

name, coincidentally against Valiente, who easily knocked the team out of the Semi-finals of the Silver cup. However, as soon as the ball began to roll on the grass, it was soon felt that this time would be different, and the Australian team

was ready to give their all on the field.

The game started at a breaktaking pace and the scores were even. In the first phase of the match, plenty of goals were scored and the exchange of blows between the two teams was

constant.

Valiente finished the first chukker with the lead, 3-2. A gap they maintained going into the second chukker (6-5). The team led by Bob Jornayvaz failed to increase their lead and Ellerston equalised (8-8) in the third chukker.

The second phase of the match started very differently. The two teams took very few risks and pushed their horses to their limits. Their tactics were to shield the goals, and they defended them as much as possible.

Creating an opportunity cost sweat, and the fear of failure was clearly on show, even during penalties. The battle between the two teams was sublime. Cambiaso masterfully captained Valiente, helped by his two teammates: Santi Torres and Santi Laborde. Meanwhile, Ellerston showed signs of their potential with the Pieres brothers up in front, accompanied by Thomas Brodie and James Packer. It was neck and neck. Proof of this came in the fourth chukker when the scoreboard only changed once for each team. The same thing happened in the fifth chukker. Only the sixth and final chukker remained. de the champion with 10-10 on the scoreboard. Emotions were running high and the stakes were higher still.

In the final assault, the highest quality polo was on show.

There was no room for doubt and the two teams came out determined to win. The game opened up and the best attacking game returned. It was then when the figure of Cambiaso emerged in the final moments to round off the scores. Valiente took charge of the game and quickly scored two goals (12-10), opening a gap for the first time in the match. Ellerston, aware that they were loosing the game, turned around at full speed for an equaliser. The Australian team narrowed the gap thanks to a goal from Facundo Pieres, scoring one of the best goals of the tournament. The Argentinian rode down the side of the pitch, pressurised by several opponents, and hit the ball almost from the corner, sneaking it right into the goal.

But Cambiaso was not prepared to let the final slip away and came back to score after getting rid of several rivals.

In Valiente’s enclosure, the goal was being celebrated. The Gold Cup was close and the best player in the world finished it off with an unforgettable move.

With Ellerston struggling, Cambiaso took the ball for himself and headed towards the goal on top of his horse at lightening speed. His opponents could not give chase and the Argentinian rode into the goal with the ball. Time was up. Valiente were the champions after scoring 14-11 on the scoreboard.

At the final whistle, the players rode to their enclosure throwing their mallets into the

air. There the teams’ managers and grooms were jumping for joy. Cambiaso was the first to arrive and embraced his wife María Vázquez. Jornayvaz also embraced his family, whilst he danced around shouting ‘champions’. A bucket of water was thrown over Laborde as he was being interviewed by ESPN. Valiente’s patron could not hide his delight at the victory and highlighted the difficulty of the final against Ellerston. “It has been a great game.

I have to admit that the Pieres brothers are incredible rivals, they have played very well. Right until the last minute no one knew who would win, and so it was a great game”, he said from Colorado. Jornayvaz also highlighted the quality of the tournament in Sotogrande: “The competition has been incredible. I have to recognise the hard work of the Santa Maria Club for bringing together 12 spectacular teams”.

Cambiaso, for his part, emphasised the great work of the organisation after winning his second Gold Cup in Soto-

Valiente and Ellerston entertained the public, who packed out the Los Pinos field, with the highest quality polo grande, after his 1999 victory with Outback. He also talked about his next stop, in Argentina, where he intends to repeat his 2013 Triple Crown success with his team La Dolfina.

Soon afterwards, Valiente’s party moved to the awards ceremony, where they were presented with the Bulgari Gold Cup from actor Jordi Mollá and Princess Beatrice of Orleans. The Valiente quartet raised their glasses for the third time in a row this summer; something that hasn’t been seen in Sotogrande since 2008 and a win for Ahmibah, from patrons Bahar Jefri and Pablo Mac Donough. With the Triple Crown, Valiente was declared as the best team of the season. It was the icing on the cake for this 43rd Land Rover Tournament, the best in the history of the Santa Maria Polo Club.

LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.- El argentino Adolfo Cambiaso, del equipo Valiente, fue designado como el mejor jugador del torneo.

El presidente de Santa María Polo Club, Ramón Mora-Figueroa, fue el encargado de entregarle el trofeo, que desde este año tiene un carácter muy especial para la entidad al llevar el nombre de ‘Memorial Javier Novillo-Astrada’ en homenaje al polista recientemente fallecido. Mora-Figueroa quiso rendir un sentido tributo a Novillo-Astrada en la ceremonia de premios, recordando su gran categoría humana y profesional, así como la entereza con la que luchó contra el cáncer.

El presidente de Santa María destacó la vinculación de Novillo-Astrada con Sotogrande, que viene de su padre Talio desde los años 60. Mora-Figueroa recordó que el polista jugó con Santa María la primera vez que salió de Argentina, al principio de los 90, para participar en un torneo. Asimismo, subrayó la “caballerosidad, hombría, educación y sentido común” de Novillo-Astrada, siendo un ejemplo a seguir dentro del mundo del polo. Por todos estos valores que encarnó Javier, Santa María ha querido ponerle su nombre al trofeo al mejor jugador de la Copa de Oro. Y qué mejor estreno que este primer trofeo Novillo-Astrada recaiga en Cambiaso, al que ya muchos

Mejor caballo Durante la ceremonia también se procedió a la entrega del trofeo al mejor caballo, que fue para ‘One Magnífica’, propiedad de Facundo Pieres del equipo Ellerston. El encargado de hacer los honores fue el cónsul de la República Argentina en Cádiz, Agustín Núñez.

Asimismo, también se dio la copa al vencedor del ‘Memorial Pedro Domecq de la Riva’ que fue Lechuza Caracas tras ganar la final subsidiaria de alto handicap a Halcyon Gallery por 10 a 8. El equipo venezolano está patroneado por Víctor Vargas y ha contado en sus filas con

el jugador Juan Martín Nero.

Los encargados de entregar el trofeo fueron Pedro Domecq y Dolores Marchena, primera teniente de alcalde de San Roque.

De esta forma llegaba a su fin una temporada histórica. El 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover será recordado por la gran temporada de Valiente, por la presencia de cinco de los mejores jugadores mundo, (Adolfo Cambiaso, Gonzalo y Facundo Pieres, Juan Martín Nero y David Stirling), por el récord de equipos inscritos, por la calidad de los partidos en los tres niveles y por la espectacular organización que, un año más, han puesto el foco de atención del mundo del polo en Santa María Polo Club en agosto.

M. / sotogrande.- El actor español Jordi Mollá, embajador del proyecto Save the Children-Bulgari, y la princesa Beatriz de Orleans, madrina de honor del torneo, fueron los encargados de entregar la Copa de Oro Bulgari sobre el césped de Santa María Polo Club. Beatriz de Orleans, en declaraciones a este periódico, destacó el gran nivel de la final disputada entre Valiente y Ellerston. “La verdad es que ha sido una final muy emocionante. Los caballos de los dos equipos son impresionantes y muy bonitos. Ha sido un partido muy limpio, muy franco.

Valiente y Ellerston son dos conjuntos fantásticos. No ha habido ningún problema ni trampas durante todo el encuentro. Hacía muchos años que no veía una final como ésta tan emocionante”, manifestó la princesa.

Beatriz de Orleans aseguró que para ella es “un gran honor” amadrinar cada año un torneo como éste, con tanto nivel como el que se ha disputado esta temporada en las canchas de Santa María Polo Club de Sotogrande. “El polo es un magnífico deporte y lo bonito es que cada año va a más. Yo me acuerdo del primer año que era un torneo muy pequeño y cada año va tomando más cuerpo. El torneo de Santa María Polo Club ya es conocido en toda Europa y el polo de Sotogrande ya es reconocido al máximo nivel internacional. Hay un equipo fantástico de gente que trabaja al máximo cada temporada. Además, tienen valores humanos muy importantes.

Seguro que todo esto hace que siga creciendo. Yo voy mucho a disfrutar del polo a Francia. También estuve hace dos meses en Italia. Y la verdad es que como lo que he visto hoy, nada que se le compare”, dijo.

La princesa aprovecha estos días para descansar con

su familia en Sotogrande, un destino que calificó como “maravilloso”. “Lo conozco desde hace muchos años. Es un lugar para veranear muy alegre. En Sotogrande todo está muy cuidado y limpio. Nunca tienes ningún problema.

Luis Estrada: “El polo que hemos visto hoy es el más alto de Europa” y. o. / sotogrande .- Luis Estrada, vicepresidente de Santa María Polo Club, declaró, nada más concluir la ceremonia de entrega de premios, que el cierre de la edición número 43 del Torneo Land Rover de Polo no podía haber tenido mejor colofón. “Creo que hemos presenciado un partido como no se ha visto en los últimos años. Ha sido competido, hemos disfrutado hasta el final, con un nivel de polo espectacular, y con los mejores jugadores del mundo. No podemos estar más conten-

tos”, aclaró Estrada. El vicepresidente añadió que la que se acababa de disputar había sido una de las mejores finales que se han disputado en el club. “Creo que el nivel de polo que estamos disfrutando en el Santa María es el mejor de Europa. Quizás nos iguale la Copa de Oro en Inglaterra, y es lo más alto en el polo europeo, por lo tanto, estamos al más alto nivel”, añadió el responsable del club. Estrada manifestó además que todo había funcionado como estaba previsto, y aunque siempre hay

cosas que mejorar, declaró que el balance final es muy bueno, y que eso les anima a emprender nuevas aventuras cara al próximo año. “Hemos de mejorar, hacer nuevas cosas, y cada año sorprender por el contenido y las novedades que tiene este torneo, que no solo es una cita deportiva, sino también social, cultural, etcétera”, apuntó el vicepresidente. Por último, adelantó que entre los planes del club está organizar una temporada de mediano handicap para el mes de junio de 2015.

The President of the Santa Maria Polo Club, Ramón Mora-Figueroa, presented the award, which from this year is particularly significant for the club as it bears the inscription ‘Javier Novillo-Astrada Memorial’ in tribute to the late polo player. Mora-Figueroa wanted to make a heartfelt tribute to Novillo-Astrada at the awards ceremony, highlighting his great personal and professional qualities, as well as the strength he used in his fight against cancer.

The President of the Club highlighted Novillo-Astrada’s connection to Sotogrande, which comes from his father Talio from the 60s. Mora-Figueroa recalled that he played with Santa Maria when he left Argentina for the first time, at the start of the 90s, to participate in a tournament. He also highlig-

This ended what has been a historic season. The 43rd Land Rover International Tournament will be remembered for the fantastic season by Valiente, the presence of five of the world’s best players (Adolfo Cambiaso, Gonzalo and Facundo Pieres, Juan Martín Nero and David Stirling), the record number of teams taking part, the quality of the matches at all levels and the phenomenal organisation that, once again, has focussed the polo world’s attention on the Santa Maria Polo Club in August.

M. / sotogrande.- The Spanish actor Jordi Mollá, ambassador for the Save the Children-Bulgari project, and Princess Beatrice of Orleans, honorary patron of the tournament, presented the Bulgari Gold Cup on the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club.

Beatrice of Orleans, in an interview with this newspaper, praised the high level of the final played between Valiente and Ellerston. “To tell you the truth, it has been a very exciting final. The horses of both teams are both impressive and very beautiful. It has been a very clean and very open game. Valiente and Ellerston are two fantastic teams. There hasn’t been any problems or any cheating throughout the match. I haven’t seen a final as exciting as this in years”, said the Princess.

Beatrice of Orleans said that it is a “great honour” for her to be patron of a tournament like this every year, with such high standards like those that have been on display throughout the season on the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande. “Polo is a magnificent sport and the good thing is that every year it keeps growing. I remember its first year; it was a really small tournament and every year it keeps growing further. The Santa Maria Polo Club tournament is already well known throughout Europe and the polo of Sotogrande is already recognised at the highest international level. There’s a fantastic team of people that work as hard as possible every season. They also have very important human values.

I am sure that all this will ensure it continues to grow further. I am going to really enjoy the Polo in France. I was in Italy two months ago. And to tell you the truth, from what I’ve seen today, nothing can compare to it”, she said.

The Princess took advantage of the last few days to relax with her family in Sotogrande,

a destination she described as “wonderful”. “I’ve known about it for many years. It is a place where you can really enjoy the summertime. In Sotogrande, everything is well maintained and clean. You never have any problems. And as such it will keep growing every year. I would just like to congratulate the Santa Maria Polo Club and Sotogrande for this spectacular 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tournament and for having given us the best final of the Bulgari Gold Cup that we could have only dreamed of”, said the Princess.

Bulgari Ambassador The actor Jordi Mollá, for his part, explained that Bulgari Spain asked him to be their ambassador for the Save the Children project, and that, once they agreed to approach it with art and creativity, he

Estrada: “The polo we have seen today has been of the highest European level” y. o. / sotogrande.- Luis Estrada, vice-president of the Santa Maria Polo Club, stated, shortly after the awards ceremony, that the conclusion of the 43rd Edition of the Land Rover Polo Tournament could not have been better. “I believe that we witnessed something that we haven’t seen in the last few years. It was a very competitive match and we have enjoyed a spectacular level of polo with the best players in the world right until the end. We couldn’t be happier”, stated Es-

trada. The vice-president added that the final that had just been played, had been one of the best finals to take place at the club.

“I believe that the level of polo we are currently enjoying at the Santa Maria Club is the best in Europe. Perhaps its at the same standard as the Gold Cup in England, and that is the very top in European polo, therefore we are at the highest level”, added the club’s manager. Estrada also said that everything had worked out as planned, and although there are always things

to improve on, he stated that the final outcome was very good, and that it has encouraged them to adopt new things for next year. “We have to improve, do new things, and every year we are nothing but surprised by the content and the innovations of this tournament, which is not just a sporting but also a social and cultural event”, said the vice-president. Lastly, he announced that amongst the various plans for the club, a medium handicap season is also to be organised in June 2015.

El equipo alemán, campeón también de la Copa de Plata, levantó el trofeo más importante y se proclamó como el mejor equipo de la temporada de verano en Sotogrande.

a fiesta que comenzó en la cancha principal del Santa María Polo Club con la consecución de la Copa de Oro Bulgari por parte de Valiente, continuó horas más tarde en el After Polo Sotogrande, que cerró su temporada con una gran fiesta protagonizada por el dj Carlos Jean. Esta última cita concentró el mejor ambiente de Sotogrande y puso el punto y final al 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo. Una vez clausurada la entrecancha III-IV y su Polo Shopping Village, y mientras el Restaurante Palenque servía sus últimas cenas de la temporada, la Closing Party 2014 de After Polo contaba con Carlos Jean como invitado de excepción.

Junto al equipo de Valiente, de triunfante celebración, residentes, clientes habituales y veraneantes apuraron las últimas horas antes de la vuelta a casa, y bailaron al mejor ritmo de Carlos Jean. También asistió el masterchef Pepe Rodríguez, que disfrutó de la final de la Copa de Oro y ejerció de anfitrión en la última velada de Restaurante Palenque. También estuvo la cantante y modelo Brisa Fenoy, protagonista de la última campaña de Turismo Andaluz, patrocinador del Torneo.

Por las canchas del Santa María Polo Club, también pasaron, en las horas previas a la final, personajes de la vida social española como Paloma Segrelles, Patricia Rato o Ignacio de Marichalar.

Segrelles, que manifestó estar de vacaciones con sus padres y sus dos hijas, se declaró una enamorada del polo, y alabó las instalaciones del club.

Ya en la tarde de la final, se dejaron ver la bloguera y modelo María León y Fernando Martínez de Irujo, hijo de la Duquesa de Alba. Ambos disfrutaron, junto al público que llenó la cancha, de una jornada de polo que gozó de un gran ambiente. La expectación de la final, que enfrentaba a Ellerston y Valiente; la presencia sobre el campo de los mejores jugadores del mundo; y la posibilidad, como finalmente fue, de que el equipo del norteamericano Bob Jornayvaz se hiciera con la triple corona; se presentaban como elementos más que suficientes para atraer al público, que llenó el graderío y las zonas aledañas.

Las colas en la taquilla, en los minutos previos al partido, ya anunciaban un lleno absoluto en la cancha. Una vez iniciado el partido, los chicos de Ellerston parecían ser los favoritos entre los aficionados, pero Valiente trajo también una hinchada muy entregada que se hacía notar en cada gol de su equipo. El fuerte calor que acompañó al público durante los seis chukkers no supuso un obstáculo para ninguno de los asistentes que, pese a la elevada temperatura que se registró durante la tarde, siguió con emoción el desarrollo de un partido que estuvo muy igualado hasta los momentos finales.

venta durante la celebración del 43 Torneo Land Rover de Polo. Todo esto ocurría en la entrecancha, y en las tiendas del interior, el ir y venir de gente parecía más intenso que nunca. Algunos de los establecimientos que se instalaron al inicio de la temporada, empezaban a embalar artículos y a retirar parte de

pedida ya estaba muy presente. Las últimas cenas en Palenque; las últimas fotos delante del Jaguar que ha permanecido aparcado a la entrada del Santa María Polo Club durante todo el mes; y la satisfacción de quienes salían en busca de su coche, alabando las instalaciones o el gran partido de polo que

la estructura, la cartelería o la iluminación. Han sido días muy intensos y el club y toda su zona de ocio, comercio y restauración han permanecido abiertos durante 36 días para facilitar y propiciar un mejor ambiente al torneo. A la salida del club, apenas dos horas después de la final, el sentimiento de des-

Así, con ese ir y venir de gente, se despidió, un año más, el Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo. La organización empieza a trabajar ya para ofrecer, en 2015, el mejor espectáculo y servicio tanto fuera como dentro de las canchas del club.

he celebrations, that began following Valiente’s win of the Bulgari Gold Cup on the main fields of the Santa Maria Polo, continued on for many hours at the Sotogrande After Polo, and a fantastic party starring DJ Carlos Jean finished off the season. This final event was the focal point of the fantastic atmosphere in Sotogrande, and rounded off the 43rd International Land Rover Polo Tournament. Once the entrecancha 111-1V and the Polo Shopping village had closed, and whilst the Palenque Restaurant was serving its final dishes of the season, the 2014 After Polo Closing Party got underway with its VIP guest, Carlos Jean, attending.

Along with the Valiente team, fresh from their triumphant victory, residents, regular customers and holidaymakers made the most out of the last few hours before they retuned home, dancing to the wonderful music from Carlos Jean. The master chef, Pepe Rodríguez, who also attended, enjoyed the final of the Gold Cup and hosted the final evening at the Palenque Restaurant.

The singer and model Brisa Fenoy, the protagonist behind the latest campaign from Turismo Andaluz, a sponsor of the tournament, also attended.

On the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club, personalities from Spain’s public life, like Paloma Segrelles, Patricia Rato and Ignacio de Marichalar were also seen early on before the final. Segrelles, who was on holiday with her parents and two daughters, stated that she was in love with polo, and commended the club on its facilities.

The ticket windows have taken more than 21.000 euros In the afternoon of the final, the blogger and model María León and Fernando Martínez de Irujo, son of the Duchess of Alba were also seen. Both enjoyed a day at the polo and its fantastic atmosphere, along with members of the public, who filled the fields. The anticipation of the final, which pitted Ellerston against Valiente, the presence of the best polo players in the world on the field, and the possibility that the team from American Bob Jornayvaz would walk away with the triple crown, which ultimately happened, was more than enough to lure in audiences, filling the stands and the surrounding areas.

Although there were queues at the ticket windows, in the minutes prior to the match, it was announced that the field was full to capacity. Once the match got underway, the Ellerston boys seemed to be the favourites among suppor-

ters, but Valiente also brought their own dedicated fans who cheered at every goal scored by their team.

The intense heat beating down on the public throughout the six chukkas did not put any of the supporters off, and despite the high temperature recorded during the afternoon, the spectators were full of excitement as the match developed, and remaining a draw until the final moments. The ticket windows have

taken more than 21,000 euros in the last few days, and this money is destined for the Hippotherary Centre of the Santa Maria Polo Club, which during the season, has also received funding from the entrance fees levied at two music concerts held at the Sotogrande After Polo venue. The fantastic audiences have undoubtedly responded well to the dozen or so parties that have taken place in the entertainment and bar area, whi-

ch this year has benefited from a renovated shopping area and new facilities.

In fact, after the final and the awards ceremony, the Shopping Village was one of the busiest areas. Some of the shops that have been open for the entire month, were offering discount prices on their products to encourage sales. It was the final opportunity to buy confectionary, clothing, shoes, jewellery and decorations, which have been on sale

El barco Bribón-Movistar, primer líder de la Copa J80 de España LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.- El Bribón-Movistar de Marc de Antonio se colocó como primer líder de la octava edición de la Copa de España de J80 Trocadero Sotogrande, tras ganar dos de las tres primeras pruebas disputadas en aguas de Sotogrande en el primer día de regatas. La jornada inaugural estuvo marcada por vientos de poniente que se movieron entre los 11 y los 16 nudos de intensidad.

El otro tanto del día, el primero, se lo adjudicó el monotipo Herbalife, de los armadores Pepequín Orbaneja y Juan Luis Páez, que terminó segundo en la general provisional con dos puntos más, sumando al primero un cuarto y un segundo en las otras dos pruebas.

Le siguió a una distancia de seis puntos el barco procedente de Puerto Banús Da Bruno, que por una lesión de su patrón habitual, Iñaki Castañer, condujo Ricardo Zabell, acreedor de dos segundos y un noveno. A las puertas de podio con sólo un punto más, el Puerto Sherry IIOxital compartiendo bandera

La temporada de playas cierra este domingo tras ampliarse El dispositivo de vigilancia ha contado con una plantilla de 60 socorristas, ocho jefes de playa y 14 enfermeros, además del personal dedicado a limpieza L.V. SOTOGRANDE.- La temporada de playas en el municipio de San Roque concluirá mañana domingo, siete de septiembre, después de que fuese ampliada una semana más por decisión del equipo de gobierno. Aunque la próxima semana se ofrecerá una valoración definitiva del trabajo realizado en los meses de verano, Juan Manuel Ordoñez, concejal de Seguridad Ciudadana, destacó que el balance provisional es muy satisfactorio. El servicio de socorrismo lo ha proporcionado, un año más, la Agrupación Local de Protección Civil, con un total de 82 voluntarios entre socorristas, enfermeros y coordinadores de playas. Además, el buen tiempo y la gran afluencia de bañistas a las playas sanroqueñas motivó que se adelantara el comienzo de la temporada de playas a finales de junio, aunque inicialmente estuviera previsto para el uno de julio. de socorrismo y salvamento organizado por Protección Civil de San Roque ha contado con los siguientes medios humanos y técnicos: 60 socorristas, a los que se unen ocho jefes de playa; 14 enfermeros; ocho tornos de rescate (aparatos para sacar a los bañistas del agua cuando las corrientes lo ponen difícil); tres embarcaciones; tres ambulancias; dos kayaks; un todoterreno; y un servicio de vigilantes de Medio Ambiente.

El responsable de Seguridad Ciudadana concluyó añadiendo que el servicio de limpieza se ha reforzado este año dotando al personal de mejor material y aumentando el número de trabajadores que ha contratado Emadesa. Un grupo importante de esos 61 trabajadores se ha encargado de esta labor desde las seis de la mañana hasta la una de la tarde. Las playas cuentan con módulos de salvamento y duchas, pasarelas sobre la arena y carriles de acceso a las playas.

San Roque, sede del campeonato nacional de fútbol chapas l.v. / sotogrande.- El hotel Suites San Roque Club será sede en noviembre del campeonato nacional de fútbol chapas. La competición tiene prevista la asistencia de unas 250 personas entre jugadores y acompañantes. La fecha prevista para su celebración son los días 22 y 23 de noviembre.

La organización ha informado que habrá dos competiciones; por una parte, el campeonato individual en el que participarán los 64 mejores jugadores del territorio español, elegidos según el criterio de cada sede y en función de las plazas asignadas a cada club. Y por otro lado, se jugará el campeonato por equipos en el que está previsto que participen doce sedes y cada una de ellas estarán representadas por cinco jugadores. La directiva del club de fútbol chapas de San Roque espera continuar con su racha y meterse por tercer año consecutivo en la gran final. De hecho, sabe que son una de las grandes favoritas a la victoria final.

El cementerio del Valle del Guadiaro, con nuevos nichos El camposanto ha sido ampliado con 28 unidades más para responder a la demanda que los técnicos de la delegación detectaron hace ya más de un año LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.- Trabajadores de Emadesa están acometiendo una obra de ampliación de 28 nichos en el cementerio del Valle del Guadiaro. Los tenientes de alcalde de Emadesa y Obras y Servicios, José Vera, y del Valle del Guadiaro, Juan Roca, inspeccionaron los trabajos.

Ambos quisieron comprobar in situ estos nuevos nichos, muy necesarios en el camposanto debido a que la cantidad actual es insuficiente para hacer frente a la demanda que tiene el Valle del Guadiaro. “Tenemos terrenos previstos para ampliar

a 24 más -aclaró José Vera- por lo tanto creo que estamos dando una respuesta, desde la delegación, a la demanda de los ciudadanos del Valle del Guadiaro, con lo que no tendremos que plantearnos ninguna ampliación de este cementerio a corto y medio plazo, pudiendo aguantar estas instalaciones unos años más”.

El edil quiso recordar, además, que hace poco han terminado una nueva fase de 36 nichos en el cementerio de la Bahía (Puente Mayorga, Campamento y Guadarranque) y que tienen previsto acometer esta misma tarea en la Estación de

San Roque, ya que es el cementerio que, en la actualidad, podría tener más problemas de

Super 8, un pequeño de lujo Quince cintas de diferentes países de todo el mundo participan en la III Muestra de Cine Super 8/16 Milímetros organizada en San Roque. Una retrospectiva y un clásico completaron el programa

U

n total de quince filmes procedentes de Alemania, Austria, Francia, Italia, Canadá y España se han visto esta semana en la sección a concurso de la III Muestra de Cine Super 8/16 milímetros, celebrada en la sala Quimera, en el Palacio de los Gobernadores de San Roque.

Este año, el público, aunque no muy numeroso como suele ocurrir en este tipo de muestras tan especializadas, ha sido el encargado de valorar las cintas presentadas. La entrega de premios a los filmes ganadores pondrá, en la noche del sábado 6 de septiembre, el punto y final a una nuestra que fue inaugurada con la proyección en formato Super 8 de King Kong, de 1933.

King Kong, el nombre de un gigantesco gorila ficticio que habita en la Isla Calavera, ha sido protagonista de varias películas desde que el cine es cine; y la de 1933 es, además, una de las primeras y más famosas películas de monstruos.

El filme es recordado por sus pioneros efectos especiales usando la técnica stop-motion, por sus animatronics y su historia de la bella y la bestia.

En la película original de 1933 el protagonista es Carl Dehnam, un director de cine inquieto y audaz que planea hacer un peligroso viaje hacia una isla de la cual sólo él sabe cómo llegar. Su objetivo: filmar a una leyenda llamada Kong, un temible monstruo que se enamora de una hermosa mujer.

Tras la proyección de este clásico, la segunda jornada prosiguió con una retrospectiva compuesta por películas como Bajamar (1993), rodada en Cádiz en Super 8 y en color por Antonio Sánchez y Marcelino Arriaza; Acantilado (1996), de los mismos autores; y Viaje a Eurythmides (1990), rodada en Super 8 en Córdoba por Miguel Éngel Entrenas.

En la sección Documentos encontrados se proyectó Lament (2013), montada a mano el pasado año en Canadá con material de archivo.

Ya en los días de competición se proyectaron Ex votos, de Austria y de 3 minutos; Afrodisíaco, española de 9 minutos; Fron, alemana de 10 minutos; Drink, alemana de 47 segundos; What time is it?, alemana de 1,07 minutos; Naturblicke, alemana de 3,44 minutos; Sexy 8, austríaca de 3 minutos; Latitude 45º 35’ North, francesa de 2,20 minutos; y Cohetá 2014 Tolox, española de 4 minutos, todas en Super 8.

Ampliación de formato La jornada del jueves se dedicó a la proyección de las películas hechas en 16 milímetros, un formato que ha sido añadido este año a la muestra de cine sanroqueña. Los espectadores pudieron ver The fever of the western Nile, canadiense de 9 minutos en blanco y negro; y Defile in Veil, también canadiense de 9 minutos en blanco y negro. En Super 8 se proyectaron Bienaventurado borracho, española de 7 minutos en blanco y negro; Intrusi, película italiana en color de 10 minutos; Nº 13, sahariana de 3 minutos en blanco y negro; y Perpetuum inmobile, española de 4 minutos en blanco y negro. En cada una de las sesiones, el público, tras completar las proyecciones, emitía su voto.

En Super 8 habrán un primer premio compuesto por 10 cartuchos de filmación Super 8 y trofeo; un segundo premio, que concede la empresa Kinova consistente en telecinado de un corto de Super 8 y trofeo; y un tercer premio que otorga Hotel Holliday Inn, que incluye un fin de semana en cualquier hotel de la Península Ibérica (España y Portugal) para dos personas en régimen de alojamiento y desayuno.

Para la sección de 16 milímetros hay previsto un primer premio, cuyo ganador se hará con dos latas de 122 metros de filmación de 16 milímetros; un segundo premio, que concede la empresa Kinova consistente en telecinado de un corto de 16 milímetros y trofeo; y un tercer premio, que también está patrocinado por Hotel Holliday Inn, consistente en un fin de semana en Bilbao para dos personas.

La organización informó que una selección de los cortometrajes premiados serán proyectados en el Cinematógrafo Municipal Quimera, en el Palacio de los Gobernadores, y podrán ser presentados por sus autores si así lo estiman oportuno. De esta manera, quienes no hayan asistido a la muestra tendrán una nueva oportunidad de ver el mejor cine en Super 8 y 16 milímetros que este año ha ido a concurso.

total of fifteen films from Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Canada and Spain have been on show this week in the several competition categories of the 3rd Super 8/16 mm cinema exhibition, held at the Quimera cinema of the Governor’s Palace (Palacio de los Gobernadores) in San Roque. This year, members of the pubic, although few in numbers, which is very common at this type of specialised exhibition, will assess the submitted films. The presentation of the awards to the winning films, on the evening of the 6th September, will mark the end of the exhibition, which began with the screening of the 1933 Super 8 version of King Kong.

King Kong, the name of the fictional giant gorilla who lives on Skull Island, has been featured in many films since the birth of cinema; and this version from 1933, is also one of the earliest and most famous monster movies.

The film is remembered for its pioneering special effects, like stop-motion techniques, its animatronics and its Beauty and the Beast story.

In the original film from 1933, the main protagonist is Carl Denham, an ambitious and daring filmmaker who plans to make a perilous journey to an island that only he knows how to get to.

His goal: to film the legendary creature called Kong, a fearsome monster who falls in love with a beautiful woman.

After the screening of this classic film, the second day continued with a retrospective, consisting of films like Bajamar (1993), shot in Cadiz on Super 8mm in colour by Antonio Sánchez and

Thursday’s session was devoted to screening 16mm films, a format that has been added to the San Roque cinema exhibition this year. Film audiences were able to see several films including: The fever of the western Nile, Canada, 9 minutes, black and white; and Defile in Veil, also from Canada, 9 minutes, black and white. In the Super 8 format, numerous other films were shown, like Bienaventurado borracho, Spain, 7 minutes, black and white; Intrusi, Italy, 10 minutes, in colour; Nº 13, Saharan Africa, 3 minutes, black and white; and Perpetuum inmobile, Spain, 4 minutes, black and white. In each session, members of the public cast their votes.

In the Super 8 category, the first place prize will be 10 Super 8 film cartridges and a trophy, second place prize, provided by the company Kinova, will consist of a Super 8 short film telecine and a trophy; and third place prize, awarded by the Holiday Inn Hotel, will be a weekend stay at any one of their hotels located in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) for two people bed and breakfast. For the 16 mm category, first place prize will be two cans of 122 meters of 16 mm film, second prize, provided by the company Kinova, will be a 16mm telecine and a trophy, and third place prize, also awarded by the Holiday Inn Hotel, will be a weekend away in Bilbao for two people.

The organisation reported that a selection of the award-winning short films will be shown at the Quimera Municipal Cinema at the Governor’s Palace.
