Crowell & Moring was founded in 1979 by 53 lawyers who set out to build a firm with a distinct personality. Coming from a large firm, these lawyers knew what a law firm could be and what they wanted it to be: a community of unpretentious professionals with a sense of humor and the ability to meet any challenge.
Crowell & Moring has represented a number of high profile companies including ACE USA, Aetna Inc., BMW, General Motors, IBM, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Marriott, WellPoint, the Brink’s Company, and many more.
In 1987 the firm moved to its present location in Washington, DC. That same year, C& M International, also based in Washington, DC, was introduced as the firm’s international trade and consulting firm. In 2000, Crowell & Moring brought on 16 attorneys from Michaels & Bonner, a healthcare boutique in Washington, DC. The next year the firm teamed up with the 14 lawyer IP boutique, Evenson, McKeown, Edwards & Lenahan and three years later, it collaborated with Capitolink LLC to launch C&M Captiolink. In 2006, the firm combined with King Pagano Harrison, thus increasing its litigation, healthcare, and labor and employment strength. In recent years, the firm also took on a nine-lawyer financial institutions team from Buchanon Ingersoll & Rooney PC and added six
