Joseph J. LaRosa, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. By Teresa Cajot On September 6, 2011, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced the appointment of Joseph J. LaRosa to the position of Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary. LaRosa will take on his duties with the biopharmaceutical company later this month.
In his new role, LaRosa will manage all of Regeneron’s legal matters, ranging from general corporate legal matters to intellectual property and corporate compliance. LaRosa will report to the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Leonard S. Schleifer, MD, Ph.D. Prior to accepting the position with Regeneron, LaRosa was the Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Nycomed US Inc., a subsidiary of Nycomed. The company operates two US divisions that concentrate on specialty pharmaceuticals in dermatology. LaRosa served as the first global chief compliance officer at Avon Products, Inc. from 2009 to 2010. He also worked for the Schering-Plough Corporation for more than 15 years. During his tenure with the company, he served in a number of senior legal roles, most recently as the Vice President of Legal Affairs and as a member of the Operations Management Team. He has experienced in handling a variety of crucial legal duties including international, US health care

and managed market, marketing and sales, commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, and licensing. LaRosa earned both his JD and undergraduate degrees from New York University. His undergraduate studies were focused on Political Science and Psychology. ‘’We are extremely pleased to have recruited a seasoned corporate attorney with deep senior-level pharmaceutical experience to lead this important function. Joe’s track record managing a variety of key legal functions at Schering-Plough and Nycomed will be directly relevant as Regeneron, which now employs more than 1,600 people, continues to build its product portfolio and the capabilities of a fully integrated pharmaceutical company,’’ said Schleifer in response to LaRosa’s acceptance of the position. Regeneron is a New York City area, fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company that creates, develops, produces, and markets medications to treat a number of serious medical issues.
