Law School Profile
University of Minnesota Law School By Donna McGill An award winning legal writing program, a broad offering of courses an one of the highest post graduate employment rates in the country are just a few of the reasons the University of Minnesota Law School remains highly ranked, and for many, it’s not only the first choice, it’s their only consideration. We’re proud to include the University of Minnesota Law School as this week’s Law School Showcase.
Located strategically between the Twin Cities, the University of Minnesota Law School is a hub for all things legal and political within this beautiful state. The Minnesota Supreme Court, one of the United States Federal District courtrooms and the State Capitol are all located within walking distance of the campus. Further, and what is unheard of for many, is the fact students can easily consult with any number of political leaders, attorneys, judges and other professionals and they are always welcome in legislative and judicial hearings, as well as federal and state trial and appellate courts. This is one incredible benefit other campuses simply can’t off their student bodies. Founded in 1888, this institution has historically ranked high in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual ‘’Best Law Schools’’. It’s chosen year after year for its diversity, wide ranging programs, tuitions and the number of former graduates who have gone on to serve in the highest courts in the country and who might have become high profile lawyers, political leaders and business leaders. It is the 11th largest law school in the nation and offers several opportunities for students to study abroad in such places as China, Japan, Spain and Germany. As mentioned, the school’s legal writing program has won many distinctions. The Minnesota Law Review remains in the top 15 of most cited journals, the Minnesota Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship as well as the Minnesota Journal of Law Science are just a few of the publications that the student body writes and edits.

Not surprisingly, the University of Michigan’s Law Library is considered one of the most technologically advanced libraries found on any law school campus. It is also home to the Riesenfeld Rare Books Research Center, where some of the rarest legal texts in the world are housed. Currently, the school offers more than twenty legal educational clinics, overseen by teaching attorneys, which allows students the ‘’opportunity to handle real legal cases’’. It offers several joint and dual degree programs, as well as a LL.M. program. The school recently announced it was in the process of introducing more than a few courses in an effort to stay current on an ever-changing legal landscape. A few of these programs include those focused on new financial laws, prison overcrowding, environmental law and even a revamped course that deals with domestic abuse and abuse at the workplace. Tuition varies and is subject to change at any time; however, for those non residents who wish to attend the University of Minnesota Law School, tuition will hover near $35,000 and residents can expect to pay just over $25,000. Other fees will vary. This facility offers students far more than just a legal education; it inspires, motivates and pushes students to become all they were meant to be. It encourages them to challenge themselves; to push their own envelopes and raise their own bars. It’s what defines a superb educational facility.
