Here’s To Living Well!
hree cheers for whoever decided that March should be nutrition Month! it’s the perfect time to get back on track. and let’s admit it, there are always a few bad dietary habits to be broken. (My vice: the yummy cupcakes coming out of the test Kitchen right now. someone has to make sure they’re awesome.) on the whole, CL readers don’t seem to be doing too badly, nutrition-wise. in a recent survey of canadianliving.com readers, only 10 percent of respondents said they have dessert every night. Meanwhile, 21 percent said they enjoy a salad every day, 59 percent said they eat at the family dinner table every night, and almost everybody said they snack on fruits and veggies. our survey also confrmed that comfort food is important to our readers (mac and cheese, anyone?). Tankfully, our nutrition experts agree that indulging once in a while makes for a balanced approach to eating. Tis month, we want to help you make savvy food choices—we can’t eat kale and

quinoa every night! so food director annabelle waugh and the test Kitchen team created a batch of our favourite foods and made them lighter and more nutritious. find delicious, guilt-free nachos and other lightened-up versions of our fave game-day foods starting on page 100. (My new favourite appetizer is the crispy cheese-stufed Jalapeños on page 104.) we also learned that the number one reason you make a recipe is that your fam-T ily will actually eat it. so enjoy our “Quick & easy” beef and broccoli brown rice bowl on page 82 and our delicious superfood Platter on page 86—and know that, by doing so, you’re also doing good for your heart. Personally, i fnd the best way to ensure a healthy diet is to stay active. let’s face it, if you put in all those hours at the gym or on the track, you’re less likely to sabotage your eforts by eating empty calories. don’t forget to reward yourself for eating well and being active: Maybe buy a pair of athletic pants chic enough to wear to work! find these beautiful, on-trend looks starting on page 30. and get moving! happy spring! ted From March 17 to 21, TED is coming to Vancouver.
