Calling all creative families: this month, we challenge you to make something fun out of newspaper. To inspire you, we crafted the project below. So go ahead and top it. If we pick your idea, you could win $200 and awesome bragging rights.

We coiled strips of newspaper to make a cat, but you can use the technique to form other animals and letters. Go wild!
1. Cut a sheet of newspaper lengthwise into 5-inch-wide sections. We used 5½ strips to make our cat. 2. Fold each strip in half lengthwise 3 times to end up with a strip that’s roughly ½ inch wide. Press the folds flat. 3. Start coiling by rolling one end of the strip tightly around itself. Add strips to the coil by adhering the overlapping ends with a glue stick. Finish the shape by gluing down the end. 4. For the eyes and head, start with a larger center circle before coiling. 5. Make other shapes, such as ears and a tail, as shown. 6. Arrange the shapes on waxed paper and add tacky glue where the pieces touch. Let the glue dry completely. 7. Use tacky glue to add folded-paper features, such as feet, a nose, and a mouth.
YOU In November, we challenged families to make something with cardboard tubes. Out of all the TOPPED US! creative entries we received, our favorite was by the Weinroth family from the Bronx, New York. Mom Orital and sons Eli (age 11), David (9), and Yishai (6) trimmed tubes into chess figure shapes. The boys painted them and added washi tape stripes for an extra decorative touch. The best thing about the set, according to Orital, is that if you lose a piece, all you need is another cardboard tube to replace it. Check and mate, Weinroth family!

Tempt everybunny in your family with this wholesome twist on veggie chips.
1. Heat the oven to 375°.
Lightly coat two baking sheets with cooking spray. Use a vegetable peeler to peel away the carrots’ outer layer; discard. Peel the rest of each carrot lengthwise into thin strips.
2. In a large bowl, use your
hands to toss the carrot strips with the sugar, salt, and cinnamon until coated.
3. Evenly divide the strips
between the baking sheets, being careful not to overlap. Bake for 15 minutes, switching the position of the pans halfway through. Turn off the oven, open the door slightly, and let the strips remain inside for 10 minutes more.
4. Meanwhile, stir together
the ingredients for the yogurt dip. Serve the crisps with the dip on the side.
