I dare you to…
You may have noticed that we don’t believe in strict decorating rules at this magazine. We’re more the cheerleader type: here to give you encouragement and the confidence to try something new, maybe even something you never thought you would. What if you painted your living room walls a super-dark color? What if you hung a chandelier in your laundry room? What if you tossed a leopard-print pillow on your sofa—next to a floral one?!

In this issue, we dreamed up a bunch of what-ifs for a special feature called “Be a Little More Daring With Your Decorating” (page 33). I dare you to try a few ideas that are just a smidge outside your comfort zone. I did. I wondered, what if I paired green (my least favorite color) with black-and-white, a combo that always works? And what if I went big and bold with patterns (look at those dramatic leaves!) instead of playing it safe with small prints, as I usually do? Turns out, I like this mix. I sure didn’t see it coming—and that just adds to the fun.
